WHY TECHNOLOGY RULES MEDICAL PROFESSION?

Dr.T.V.Rao MD
Today human actions are influenced by the Technology, with raise of Internet, computers and
smartphones life is more linked with online world than by the self-thinking and imaginations,
Medical Technology takes over Traditional Medical practitioners, which is a proper subset of health
technology, encompasses a wide range of healthcare products and is used to diagnose, monitor or
treat diseases or medical conditions affecting humans. Such technologies (applications of medical
science) are intended to improve the quality of healthcare delivered through earlier diagnosis, less
invasive treatment options and reductions in hospital stays and rehabilitation times. Recent
advances in Medical technology have also focused on cost reduction. Medical technology may
broadly include medical devices, information technology, biotech, and healthcare services. When we
are young in the profession he had few resources only learned teachers, few text books were
resources and we have to think twice before deciding on matters, we lost many patients, as we had
few to guide our action when we are not experienced with complex matters in Medicine, Today with
a finger touch everything in the world can be connected with our virtual world both truth and false.
However we cannot neglect our basic competence and learning all is not true on Internet anybody
post a false information, and sell wrong technology to the Hospitals, and also the technology
companies kills the machines before the hospitals get returns from the investments made are
recovered, it means that we should be information evaluator to take the best of the information and
leave the rest to hoax, The reasons are many Science was never perfect even every good idea is
opposed by other ideas, it means it creates confusion in the young minds in particular our Medical
Students. If we seriously look at Internet many matters are promotion of machines and Technology
in between some body promoting their technological innovations with commercial interests I wish if
we go back to history the machines entered life back 1800 with Machines became central to
medicine in Europe during the 1800s. Medicine had always relied on technology such as scalpels,
probes and material medica. However, by the start of the 20th century new instruments were
available to study, diagnose and treat the body. Today, hospitals worldwide use complex,
computerised machines to image the body or assist its function. In the later part of 20th technology
computers are influencing the men and society at large the computer revolution in medicine Using
computers was one of the most important technological changes in 20th-century medicine. They
became central to medical care from the 1950s. Computerised machines in hospitals monitored
patients continuously. They also enabled insurers and state-run health services to track patient
records on a massive scale. Imaging techniques such as MRI or PET were possible because faster
computers could reconstruct images of the body. More Diagnostic tests were developed because
automated laboratory machines performed tests quicker and more accurately. Today we started
accepting X ray is better than clinical examination In the 1930s some doctors doubted an X-ray
image of the chest was as reliable as a physical examination. Devices threatened to replace the
diagnostic expertise of traditional doctors. Many doctors valued their clinical experience over
machine-produced information. Other technologies failed because doctors or patients found them
impractical. ECG was only useful when it became portable and reliable enough to be used at the
patients bedside. Today we are obsolete with the idea of Human touch as many doctors rarely listen
or care to listen to minimal history of the patients, The Doctors prescribe diagnostic tests before
they listen to the patients, or understands the problem, If we read the peer reviewed books even
they tell more on sophistication to diagnose with mechanics and Technology it is true today with
advances in Medicine as best Physicians cannot remember few things to give effective medicine or
cure Todays main problem remains with on the use of technology within medicine. Medical
machines also caused practical problems. Safety concerns and operational cost shave limited their
use. Technology has changed the relationship between patients and practitioners. Some historians
and physicians argued machines made doctors poor healers by encouraging them to focus only on
the sick parts of the body, rather than caring for the patient as a whole. New gadgets and our
smartphones and iPod talks on many matters easier for the patients to know, which our personal
physician may also do not know or updated his knowledge, and are educating patients on their own
bodies and allowing them to monitor their health from home. Innovative tools now enable doctors
to advise and treat patients from around the world, and improved data storage and processing
devices are allowing patients and physicians to input, read, and share medical records with the touch
of a few buttons. Many question arise whether excessive use of technology within childbirth or to
prolong life can be intrusive and do more harm than good. The question reminds us to know we
cannot escape from the technology and commercial interests, as every technology needs a greater
funding, and life span any modality of technology is short lived, Above all if you make real survey
Patients have more confidence in the Diagnosis evaluated by a machine than by the virtual Doctors,
Todays question REMINDS are we using these machines with knowledge and ethics and not for
mere exploitation of suffering humans.
