Greetings,

Fall is upon us! Te days are now shorter than the nights and the farmers markets and gardens are loaded with a bounty! Tis edition of Notes
from the Mayors Desk will be a bit shorter than usual due to the Chlorination Notice on the opposite side. I want to take a moment to explain the
notice, so we can clarify what it means when you receive one. First and foremost, this is not a boil order. Your water is safe to drink.
Te City of Washburn does not chlorinate or fuoridate the water supply 24 hours a day, 7 days per week like most communities around the world.
We are blessed with an incredibly pure source of drinking water. As a precaution and by mandate, we regularly test the water supply for bacteria. Te
tests are very sensitive, so when a test comes back indicating the presence of coliform bacteria, we are required to do a second test immediately. If that
second test comes back positive, we are required to chlorinate the water supply for several days and to send out a notice to the public regarding the
chlorination and the presence of coliform. Te coliform bacteria that we test for are known as an indicator. Tey are easy to test for, and if found,
can be an early indicator of a problem. Historically when we have tests come back positive, a small amount of chlorination for a few days clears up
the problem and subsequent tests show that the bacteria is gone. Tese occasional short term chlorinations and the notices that go with them are part
of having chlorine free drinking water almost every day of the year. I take the quality of our drinking water very seriously. It is one of the many
reasons that I have chosen Washburn as my home, and I personally, am thankful that 99% of the time, our water is chlorine free.
As most of you know, we have been working with a consultant to create some plans for the improvement and expansion of Tompsons West End
Park. Afer 2 years of work by the West End Park Committee, an extensive search for the right consultant, two public design charettes and months of
work to compile the ideas of Washburns residents and campers, its time for your feedback. On Tursday, October 23rd at 6:00pm we will hold a
public feedback session at Stagenorth, on the draf conceptual plans for the park. Tis meeting is hosted by the City of Washburn and our
consultants, Marek Landscaping and Arcint Architecture. Te draf framework plans, will be presented and discussed and the feedback received
will be used to create the fnal draf. Your input is welcome and important! Te meeting will be held at Stagenorth so that we have comfortable
chairs access to a large screen to project the plans, drawings and concepts. I hope to see you there!

BEFORE you begin.
Tese include, but are not limited to:

A note about accidental
water spills....
Please remember to have your home
properly winterized. Frozen pipes
can cause extensive damage as well
as a very expensive water bill!
Our policy regarding the reduction
of water bills due to accidental spills
has been recently amended. In
short, you are responsible for a
minimum of $500-1000 in the case
of an accidental spill. If you would
like a copy of the amended policy,
please stop by City Hall.
