Paulo VI a Jerusaln. En esas pocas, ser fotgrafo
de Life, Paris Match o National Geographic, entre
otros, era muy bien recompensado, no slo
profesionalmente sino tambin econmicamente.

documental.

Brief on Humanity Photo Awards (HPA)
HPA was founded by China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) in 1998. For the
last 16 years, CFPA, in cooperation with the United Nations of Educational, Scientific, and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO), has built this photo contest into a prestigious
international photographic event. Its leading position is unchallenged in the world multi-
cultural field.

Documenting World Folklore Culture by Photography
We have held eight sessions of HPA contests from 1998 to 2014. In total, photographers
from 153 countries have registered for HPA; 16,031 entrants from 137 countries have
entered and submitted entries; folklore phenomena in 167 countries and regions have been
documented. HPA has built a multi-cultural image treasure documenting rich folklore
cultures and their evolution.
Octubre 2014
7

Sharing Folklore Culture with Photo Stories
HPA is open to group photos only, which sets it apart from all other photo contests. This
rule has been observed strictly for the last 16 years because we believe even a simple
folklore cultural phenomenon can tell a big story and therefore requires a folklore
photographer to focus, investigate and document thoroughly. A single image is insufficient
to tell the whole story. This rule sets a high standard for folklore photographers.

Higher Standard, More Significance and Responsibilities
HPA2013-2021 (from the 8
th
to the 12
th
HPA) has been included in the plan of International
Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022). It is a new journey for HPA. Let
world folklore photography be the tool for documenting, promoting and sharing multiple
cultures and thus promoting the prosperity and development of cultural diversity.

Tango
Pasin de arrabal

por
Carlos Garca Granthon

generalmente melanclicas, narra no

poda dejar las cosas as.

avanzar rampando.

Es poco lo que se sabe de esta cultura;
lamentablemente la mayora de los restos
arqueolgicos de la zona, estn casi en
situacin de abandono y sufriendo un rpido
deterioro por vandalismo.

Close to the sky

In the highlands of Chancay Valley,
near Huaral city, at the north of
Lima, and 3,400 meters above sea level; are
located the ruins of Rupac, one of the last
bastions of the kingdom of the Atavillos, a
pre-inca culture that flourished in the area
from the year 900 to 1400 A.C. until it was
submitted by the empire of the
Tawantinsuyu, during the rule of the Inca
Pachacutec

From this culture, its particular architecture
is interesting; cubic buildings up to 10 meters
high, built of fragmented rock without mortar
which have curiously resisted some of the
biggest earthquakes in the area, like the one
of 1746, without suffering major damage.
Currently, if a deterioration is observed, is no
other that produced by vandalism and
looting.

These buildings called Cullpis, cubic shape,
no windows, slab ceilings with only a small
access hole in the base, and apparently
served as a dwelling, store, kitchen and
family tomb at the same time, have in their
inside a number of vaulted chambers on
different levels connected by intricate
underground passages, through which you
can only move forward on all fours.

There is little that is known from this culture;
Unfortunately most of the archeological
remains in the area, are practically
abandoned and deteriorating due to
vandalism.

Chacarita
Sombras, penas y

historia; clausuras, traslados, ampliaciones y

Grandes
panteones, aqu y all, completan la
escenografa cual sedes legislativas donde la
ltima sentencia ya ha sido pronunciada;
Requiestcat in pace.

Shadows, sorrow and
silence of Buenos Aires.

The history of the Chacarita
cemetery, and its 95 hectares that
makes it the largest cemetery in the city of
Buenos Aires, goes back to 1871 and the
great plague of yellow fever which surpassed
the burial capacity of existing cemeteries.
Since then it has gone through a number of
stages in its history; closures, relocations,
expansions and renovations that eventually
turned it into the most popular necropolis of
the city.

A large number of popular characters of the
Buenos Aires daily life such as Carlos
Gardel, Luis Sandrini and many others are
buried, in this cemetery.

In the area of mausoleums, the solemnity of
the facades and spacious cobbled streets,
where only use to walk shadows, sorrow and
silence, give us the impression of walking
through the business center of a nineteenth-
century city on a holiday and in which all its
inhabitants have the balanced accounts.
Large vaults, here and there, complete the
scenery as legislative buildings in which the
last sentence has already been pronounced;
"Requiestcat in pace."
