Recent Project Highlights (Websites)
Blackad www.blackad.co.uk March 2012
Blackad needed not only a new website, but also a new visual brand, and decided I was ideally placed to make this
happen. The main focus of the brief was on providing a high quality website to efectively promote their specialist
copywriting services, substantially diferentiating them from their competitors while conveying the right blend of
personality and stability to appeal to Blackads blue-chip clients.
As well as building the website using ExpressionEngine CMS, I managed the rebrand and website redesign project
from start to nish: working with Blackad to clarify their requirements, providing creative input, formulating technical
solutions, writing the proposal and specications, producing wireframes, managing design and illustration
subcontractors and providing CMS training.
The website had to be compatible with a range of mobile devices, so a mobile-rst responsive web design approach
was used. As well as providing the security and robustness the client needed, ExpressionEngines content channels
were a good t for the websites content structure and various carefully selected add-on plugins helped make the
site quicker and easier to build and update.
Move Job www.movejob.com July 2012
Designer, Steven Bonner, asked me to project manage the movejob.com redesign and build the website for his
recruitment agency client. I worked closely with the client to clarify their requirements and come up with a solution
that would portray their unique brand personality, while respecting the clients limited budget.
I produced wireframe diagrams, coming up with a exible layout system of content modules that could be reused in
various combinations to t the page content. The modules divide the content into small, easily scannable chunks that
are highlighted by Stevens distinctive brand icons and illustrations. As a graphic designer more at home with print
design than websites, Steven greatly appreciated the guidance and advice I ofered him throughout the design phase.
To keep within budget, I kept technical functionality to a minimum, using Tumblr feeds for blog posts and vacancies
listings instead of a CMS. This freed up budget to instead concentrate on making the site work well across a range of
mobile devices and screen sizes using a responsive web design approach, which I felt would provide the client with
far more benet than additional bells and whistles.
CTVC www.ctvc.co.uk April 2013
Mike Sullivan of Mister asked me to build the redesigned CTVC website for his media production client. Mike felt I was
the right choice for this project, as he knew I would respect his carefully thought out designs even when translating
them into a small screen responsive layout as well as providing solid guidance.
The client was familiar with WordPress CMS and so this was the logical choice for the build. A drag-and-drop gallery
editor allows them to easily post a combination of images and video to accompany programme details, while a
strictly dened content structure ensures consistency of content and presentation throughout the website. In
addition to my own coding, I installed several add-on plugins to enhance search engine optimisation and website
performance. As with most of my websites, a responsive web design approach means the site works well across a
range of screen sizes and devices.
