1. The media and the government have a common goals when to not be
manipulated into promoting the cause of terrorism or its methods. Although,
policymakers and do not want to see terrorism, or anti-terrorism, whereas the
media uses freedom of the press to broadcast as wide as the airways will take
them to release a story. The governments main goal with the media is to
establish a mechanism for the public to be given honest coverage, but also
preventing any potential gain through data, or information to terrorists.
Productive communication between the government and the media here is an
important element in any strategy to prevent terrorist causes and strategies
from superseding our long democracy.
2. Three categories that I found that are regarded in domestic terrorism that can
be labeled as currently existing in the United States are listed as follows:
Motivation includes: (1) religious convictions, (2) racial prejudice and
supremacist goals, (3) anarchistic/anti-government/ politically motivated.
These motivations can be defined as; (1) Divine worship to whom, or
whatever the people view as their spiritual leader. (2) For historically
European based white race to oppress people of color for the purpose of
allegedly maintaining wealth, power, and privilege. (3) Terrorist groups of
today that are actually anarchist, anti-government or political in their
motivations are mostly associated with the growing self-determination, or
radical citizen-militia movements. They could also have been around a
relatively long time.

3. The foundation of the law of war is that a military objective must be pursued in
such a way as to avoid needless and disproportionate suffering and damages. This
foundation can be further broken down into a few sub-sections, and they are:
Military Necessity, Humanity, and Chivalry. The sub-sections can be explained
as:
Military Necessity- the use of force must be proportionate to self-defense or an
anticipated advantage.
Humanity- targets must be legitimate enemy forces, and must act no harsher then
necessary.
Chivalry-Combatants must adhere to the law of armed conflict in order to be
treated as lawful combatants.

4. A number of factors may exert a negative influence on universal implementation of the
anti-terrorism rules. For example, it may be decided at the highest level of authority that
certain rules will be disregarded. Logic and experience in the real world demonstrates
that the universal anti-terrorism rules and protocols cannot be implemented in a vacuum.
Every country must integrate the substantive and procedural requirements of those
agreements in its own criminal justice system. This should be done with Security Council
resolutions and human rights treaties in mind.

5. In the process of investigating terrorism, computers allow us to identify, prioritize, and
execute research and development projects. These projects are those of multi-agency

interest that provide investigative and forensic support to terrorist-related counteraction,
investigations, and analysis. For example, using computer investigative tools also helps to
infiltrate the subject's computer system during an investigation, to discover all data files
relevant, to recover deleted or hidden files and to analyze all data.
6. As of May 7th, according to resolution 1540, the a United Nations Council decided
that, "all States shall refrain from providing any form of support to non-State actors that
attempt to develop, acquire, manufacture, possess, transport, transfer or use nuclear,
chemical or biological weapons and their means of delivery." This resolution now forces all
States to adopt and enforce appropriate effective laws directly correlating with resolution 1540. It will also
require States to execute law-enforcement efforts, while developing and maintaining border controls.
11. To quote Rafi Sela, former head of airport security, The TSA couldnt protect you from a 6-year-old
with a water balloon. From years of personal experience with multiple airlines it is obvious to me, a
simple moderately educated in terrorism flyer, what issues are blatant. For example, there is only security
in one area of the airport, unless you are flying internationally. A potential threat only has to circumvent the
check-in before wait for your flight. There is no security checks when you land, no security at baggage
claim, and there is no security for people who can easily come into the baggage claim area from outside the
airport. You dont even have to look like someone from a hired transport company. After you check in, you
are free to be as creative as you can to acquire whatever materials you can find to create a threatening
situation. This causes great potential issues of safety against dangerous materials, and people.
12. Contrary to popular belief, the terrorists are not attacking us in order to force us to
convert to Islam or because we don't believe in Islam or that they don't like freedom or
that they are envious. It is clear that a significant catalyst to the September 11
th
attack was
our disregard for formal warnings to avoid conflict in international situations, specifically
Israel. It has been well documented that Osama bin Laden had said and did so repeatedly
Final

that the attacks will continue until specific foreign policies (American policy in the
Middle East and its support of Israel) are stopped. He doesn't say, "Until you believe in
Alah", zero of tour government labeled terrorists have ever said this or anything about
attacking us because of our freedoms. More specifically, Osama bin Laden stated, "For
over half a century, Muslims in Palestine have been slaughtered and assaulted and robbed
of their honor and of their property. Their houses have been blasted, their crops
destroyed. And the strange thing is that any act on their part to avenge themselves or to
lift the injustice befalling them causes great agitation in the United Nations which hastens
to call for an emergency meeting only to convict the victim and to censure the wronged
and the tyrannized whose children have been killed and whose crops have been destroyed
and whose farms have been pulverized " - May 1998
14. Washingtons Government Accountability Office has recently released public recent
evaluations on the Transportation Security Administration maritime, and how the results
have hindered significant areas. Found in that report was the glaring weaknesses of
internal control including their systems for enrollment, background checking and use.
Due to this development, the report also expressed concern for the security of a
Transportation Security Administration maritime worker, and the effectiveness of
TSAms identification program.
15. It has become a common belief among our politicians, military, and media that there
is a new terrorist culture. The ends of the new terrorism are presumed to be unlimited and
non-negotiable. Such terrorists are said to have no red lines. Also, their goals are derived
exclusively from religious doctrines that emphasize transformational and apocalyptic

beliefs, usually associated with Islam, although present in all monotheistic religions.
Terrorists today are presumed to hate Western, and especially American, values, culture,
civilization and existence. Their violence is expressive, not strategic or instrumental.
Destruction is an end in itself, rather than the means to an end.
