rive by Lu and Sean

Autreys house at
310 W. Logan around
Halloween and it will be hard not to
slow down or even stop to take in
the orange pumpkin lights, dangling
skeletons and other decorations. In
the eight years since Lu has gone
all out for Halloween, her familys
house has become one of the places
in Tecumseh to stop on Halloween.
This is about entertaining the
community, she said. I dont want
it to be weird, dark and scary. I just
want it to be fun and scary. People
remember it and come back for it
each year.
While it is entertaining and fun,
what people may not know is much
of what they see is repurposed,
reused or upcycled. Lu is adamant
about using what she has to decorate
her festive scenes. She is an artist
whose creative endeavors cross a

wide range of specialties including

event planning, catering, interior
decorating and food consulting just
to name a few. I was raised to be
frugal, so the great challenge is to
decorate on a dime, said Lu.

rearrange furniture, she said. I

dont tell them to go to the store and
buy more stuff. My job is to say, this
is what you have. This is what you
can do to make things work.
It was only natural Lus creativity
and eye for design and decorating
would extend to holidays. When she
and her family moved to Tecumseh,
she took note of the houses focal
point, the enormous porch that spans
the front of the house and wraps
around the side. She said the porch
called out for holiday decorations. At
about the same time a neighborhood
boy had informed her Tecumseh
goes crazy at Halloween. With that
information, Lu went all out finding
whatever she could to create a creepy,
yet fun, Halloween display. She said
she learned quickly that the boy she
talked to may have exaggerated a
bit how crazy neighbors get with
decorating for Halloween. Still,

{ {
I dont want it

Shes practiced at it. Lu has the same

philosophy whether shes decorating
her home or helping others decorate
their homes. With her interior design
consulting Lu helps her clients see
what they have is all they need. I

For Lu, game on meant making sure her home was a friendly,
inviting, fun place to be and see on Halloween. In true Lu fashion,
she threw a party. She invited friends on Halloween to join in the
fun and invited passersby to hang out, chat, and take in the festive
atmosphere. She and Sean continue the same tradition every year.
The artist in her finds inspiration in the things she sees around her
house. She tries something new each year. One year, she took note
of a giant old magnolia tree on her property. The spindly way it
looked in the fall inspired her to make it a home for a giant spider
that she created from stuff lying around her house. Another year,
a friend had given her a bunch of tulle, so she made a ghost bride.

I find something and I look at it until I come up with what it needs

to be, Lu said.
She enlists Seans help, and she is grateful he always obliges. He
operates the family business, New Hue Painting, a painting and
restoration company, so together they have the creative know-how
to craft the stunning scenes for Halloween.
For Lu, though, all of it is about building and extending community.

This is why I think its one of the greatest holidays ever, said
Lu. At Christmas, you might go and see people, but Halloween has
become the only time of year where we actually exchange food and
laughter with total strangers. Thats America. I have a house. I have
friends come over and 700 complete strangers hold a bag at me.
There is no other holiday where people come from all over like that.
Its like nothing else.

and Wayne counties, with a new location
in Tecumseh. It offers a wide selection of
personal and business accounts, and credit
options, along with the regions largest Wealth
Management department. In fact, the Michigan
Bankers Association ranks MBT 4th among
155 member banking corporations based upon
total trust assets. Quite an accomplishment for
a community bank.
The Tecumseh branch will offer lending,
investment and wealth management services,
and will become a full-service location in the
future. We remain a local community bank,
locally controlled with local decisions made
here, said Monroe Bank & Trust President &
CEO H. Douglas Chaffin.
The expansion to Tecumseh was a natural
one for the bank. We discovered we had
several hundred customers in Tecumseh and
the Lenawee County area, said Chaffin. We
can serve our existing customers better as well
as gaining new ones.

Chaffin attributes their Tecumseh and

Lenawee County customer base to the M-50
corridor and their locations in Dundee and
Petersburg.
Monroe Bank & Trust is a full service
community bank with over $1.2 billion in
total assets.
Monroe Bank & Trust has four pillars
that it aims to serve equally: its customers,
community, employees and shareholders.
The bank also serves its customers by
following their CARE process, which stands
for Communicate, Ask Questions, Refer and
Respond and Enjoy the Results.
Monroe Bank & Trust actively participates
in bettering the communities it serves by
supporting over 200 regional charities,
schools, non-profits, civic organizations
and community events. This support comes
in both financial contributions and Monroe
Bank & Trust employee volunteers. In fact,
MBT employees provide approximately
9,000 hours of community service annually.
Not only does Monroe Bank & Trust offer
global ATM account accessalong with
an ATM at its new Tecumseh location, but
also offers online personal and business
account access, Mobile Banking, PhoneLink
telephone banking and online bill pay.
With the new location now in Tecumseh,
Monroe Bank & Trust continues to offer
World Class Banking with a Local Address.

n 1832, industry was a top

priority for settlers building
what would become the City of
Tecumseh, and progress took
precedence over preserving
park-like settings created and
maintained by Native Americans
for centuries.
Early historians of Tecumseh noted
(many years after it was destroyed) a
Native American Dancing Ground or
Council Ground was found by the
first settlers of the area along the Burt
Street bluff, next to the north bank of
River Raisin. The property now belongs
to the City of Tecumseh and is within
the boundaries of Indian Crossing Trails
Park.
A circle and square earthwork,
believed by historians to have been
built by Mound Builders around
1,000 A.D., marked the spot where
two ancient Native American trails
crossed at that location next to the River
Raisin. The earthworks embankments,
approximately four foot high, were
leveled in 1832 when plans for the Globe
Mill called for a sawmill to be built there.
Native American Speaker Jamie K.
Oxendine, Director of the Black Swamp
InterTribal Foundation, recently gave
a presentation at the Toledo Museum
of Art entitled, Tecumseh and His

Campaign to Create a National-State for Native Americans. He believes the

warrior, Tecumseh may have stopped at the sacred location when rallying tribes
before the war of 1812. Oxendine is confident Tecumseh would have passed
through the area during his travels.
Remnants of industrial buildings can still be seen at the location in Indian
Crossing Trails Park, however, not much remains other than concrete foundations.
The area was recently cleared of debris and dead trees to once again open up the
area for use. A member of Boy Scouts of America, Troup 632, Samuel Anderson
spearheaded the effort as part of his Eagle Scout project. Anderson organized
several cleanup groups, and, with the help of the city, the area once covered in
thick brush and fallen trees and branches is an open, inviting park-like setting
once again. To complete the project, a sign will soon be placed at the site to mark
the location for hikers and visitors of the park.

ecumseh is a city known for an annually rotating

outdoor sculpture museum, almost one on every
corner, but there are two very interesting sculptures
that have become unchanging landmarks. The
two dinosaur skeleton sculptures, a tyrannosaurus
rex and a brontosaurus (at least thats what they
look like to the untrained eye) have marked the
entrance to the Tecumseh Trade Center for most of
the establishments eleven-year history in the local
business community. We originally bought them to
sell them, said Raffaele Recchia, who co-owns the
trade center with his father Richard, but we became
so attached to them that they are no longer for sale.
They are part of the landscape now, along with the
caterpillars. The caterpillars are earthen mounds
with cute eyes who also welcome customers to the
trade center at the entrance.
The trade center, 9129 Tecumseh-Clinton Hwy.,
734.216.6010, www.thetecumsehtradecenter.com,
is located on what most locals consider North Evans
Street next to Myers/Diver Airport, and passers-by are
often attracted not only by the dinosaur sculptures,
but also by the eclectic assortment of automobiles,
including a classic Volkswagen beetle at the corner
of North Evans and Tecumseh-Macon Road, and
outdoor vendors that are visible to people driving by
on the busy road.
The Recchias are the owners of the center, which
offers independent entrepreneurs a venue to display
their wares to an enthusiastic public that regularly
stops in, often on their garage sale circuit, to see
what is on sale in the many stalls inside and outside
of the building.
We offer small business owners the opportunity
to get the exposure that they need to succeed. We
have seen our vendors go on to regular storefronts,
but the thing we take the most pride in is offering
our vendors, an opportunity to open a business.

For a small fee, $55 for a weekend inside the

buildings/$10 outside, we provide a business
space where an entrepreneur does not have to
pay for utilities or advertising, and we have plenty
of foot traffic and a regular clientele. People
come here knowing that there is a wide variety of
merchandise and it changes every weekend.
The trade center occupies 4.5 acres and
includes two buildings which are 15,000 square
feet each, plenty of room to divide up among the
many vendors who wish to get a kick start for their
businesses.
The trade center is open every weekend from
the beginning of May to the end of October from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Recchias have recently paved the entrance
and parking area to make the approach more
appealing to customers and make the outdoor
environment better for the vendors on the outside.
We do everything we can to make the site
attractive for our customers, including flowers,
regular mowing, and a good selection of classic
vehicles for sale, said Raffaele. We also do all
we can to be a good member of the Tecumseh
business community.
Raffaele said that the trade center is open
rain or shine and is often host to more than
2,000 customers on a holiday weekend such as
Memorial Day or Labor Day. As the website states,
If someone here doesnt have it or cant get it,
they didnt make it!

TECUMSEH TRADE CENTER CONTINUED...

Nichols maintains it is she who was rescued by the birds.

Now she provides a way station during their wait for a
good home.
Nichols came to Michigan from Newnan, Georgia,
in a wheelchair, to be with her daughter, who was
a student at the University of Michigan. She was
listening to the radio one day and heard about
a bird and a cage for sale. The thought of a bird
companion brightened her spirit. She bought the
bird and the cage. That changed my life, said
Nichols. It was a cockatiel, and it was a small
cage, so I let it out. I knew it needed a larger cage
and I could tell it needed attention. Birds, especially
the larger birds, love attention and will pay you back
for your kindness.
As Nichols cared for the bird, her own crippling illness
in her feet began to subside. A pension from her employer
allowed her to rescue other birds and buy bigger cages to allow her rescues to be
more comfortable.
Im like a bird whisperer, Nichols says. I am happy to take in birds, I
train birds, and I babysit birds for people who are going on vacation. All I ask
for is a souvenir and a goodwill donation.

ichols currently has 53 birds, down from 123 a year

ago. She cares for them in a large room with a fireplace in her
Tecumseh home. The fireplace is used during the winters to
keep her mostly tropical birds happy. Currently, none of
the birds are for sale; she is too attached to all of them.
She does, however, have many cages of various
sizes for sale.
But, in her Tecumseh Trade Center Angels
Nest booth, Nichols encourages visitors to
interact with her birds. Many visitors stop
by to have their photograph taken with
one of her birds. She has one, which
is a favorite with patrons. He is 20
years old and is as affectionate
as a kitten. He loves people.
These birds live a long time,
but owners dont always realize
what a big responsibility a bird is.
Some of the birds I rescue dont
even know they can fly. Their owners
bought them and found out they were
noisy and messy and just covered their
cages to keep them quiet. These birds need
attention and affection, just like any pet.
Even when I have birds Im willing
to part with, said Nichols, I never
let someone walk away with one
of my birds on the first visit. I need
for them to meet the bird and interact
at least twice to make sure it is a good
match.
For further information for bird fanciers needing cages or information on
adopting a bird companion, contact Nichols at 517.215.8954 or email
at angelsnest59@gmail.com.

idan Irelan is passionate about music. He started

playing guitar at age five, took a three-year
hiatus, and then picked up the guitar again at
age eight. I wanted to play guitar because of the
song Iron Man by Ozzie Osbourne, said Irelan.
The 11-year-old Clinton Middle School
student regularly plays around Southeast
Michigan with his band Bananafish, including a
recent gig at the Hard Rock Caf in Detroit and
a planned performance at Tecumsehs Appleumpkin Festival
in October. Ive never played in Tecumseh, Irelan said about
his local debut. Most of their gigs are at The Tap Room in
Ypsilanti, said his mother Melissa Roberts.
His lessons at the Ann Arbor Music Center are once
a week, and Irelans bandmates are fellow students, ages nine
to 11, with teacher Alex Johnson up front as lead singer.
The group learns two or three new songs each year
to add to its repertoire. The bands sound is classic rock,
which, along with alternative rock, is one of Irelans favorite
styles of music. He cites Jimi Hendrix as a guitar idol, as well
as Flea, Jack White, and Eric Clapton. Practice is important
to Irelan, and he spends 35 minutes a day working on the
bands playlist. He
credits practice for his
musical
success. No instrument
is easy to play, Irelan
said. Musicians werent born
great, they practiced. Music is in
his blood, said Roberts. My dad was in
a band in high school.
Irelan and his mother credit
Karen King and Alex Johnson, owners of Ann Arbor
Music Center, for helping to feed the kids passion
and making music fun.

of memories

Story by Deane Erts

am both a dog guy and a cat guy. I have

had many of both species and loved them all.
But the thing I have observed in this succession
of animal companions is cats like people-dogs
love people. A cat will put up with an owner, but
a dog, if treated properly, will defend the owner
to the death.
That said, there is a long history of dogs
that help humans, from the campfires of our
prehistoric ancestors to the modern day guide
dogs for the blind and service dogs for the
disabled. Dogs have played an important role as
soldiers in all of our wars, and law enforcement
today relies heavily on canine officers. These
canine officers are the companions and
protectors of their fellow officers, ready to
sacrifice their lives at a moments notice to
serve and protect.
Today, lets concentrate on the softer aspect
of a dogs love and goodwill for humans. Molly,
a golden retriever, has been serving the disabled
and ill members of the Tecumseh community for
more than nine years. She is one of the family
members of Judy and Jim Ellerman. The couple
has raised two daughters who are now grown
and gone.
Judy has been taking Molly, now 11-yearsold, to Herrick Manor, which is a rehabilitation
establishment next to ProMedica Herrick
Hospital at the eastern end of Pottawatamie
Street. That facility has served those recovering

from ailments and disabilities for decades. Molly

is not the first dog to cheer the days of patients at
Herrick Manor, but she is currently the reigning
star of Tuesday afternoons, when she and Judy
show up for their weekly visit.
Judy has a history of service to the ill, also.
Her career includes years of service as office
manager for Tecumseh Family Practice, a clinic
also adjacent to ProMedica Herrick Hospital.
In her capacity, she saw many of the patients
referred to Herrick Manor and she was aware of
the physical and mental benefits that a visit from
a friendly dog could bestow. She wanted to help
in their recovery beyond her eight-to-five job.
We got Molly from Golden Acres, said Judy.
Golden Acres breed and board.

almost any gentlenatured dog is

qualified to be a

All that is required is an interview with the facility
administrator to establish the dogs demeanor.
But Molly, in addition to her pedigree, has a
degree. She earned her sheepskin after Judy
signed her up for training in Kate Cooks free,

public service course. Cook is a local dog trainer who has conducted obedience classes for
many years. Kate does not allow just any dog in for free service dog training, Judy said.
We [Molly and Judy] had an interview. It was basically an audition for Molly so that Kate
could determine if Molly had the qualities needed to assure that she could fill the role.
The candidate dog must be able to accept affection in any form from warm strokes to hearty
pats. Molly passed with flying colors and Cook trained both Molly and Judy in what to expect
in their compassionate visits to Herrick Manor. Molly loves everyone, Judy said. When
Im walking her on the street, people will stop and pet her on impulse. She loves it. She loves
people. Thats what makes her so welcome when we visit Herrick Manor.
Molly is getting to an advanced age for golden retrievers, but Judy credits tender care and
regular checkups with Dr. Dennis White at Companion Animal Clinic for Mollys robust good
health and enthusiasm. Molly sparks a lot of conversations at Herrick Manor, Judy said.
People will open up to me about memories of dogs that they had. They love to talk about
their pets, and I think its very therapeutic for them to remember and talk about them.
Judy said she and Molly visit other homebound people and shut-ins, including relatives,
and all enjoy the company and companionship. Golden retrievers are well known for their
gentleness and good nature. That is why they are one of the most common household canine
pets.
Molly will love you if youre kind and gentle. In her current capacity all she does is love
and receive love in return. Thats her occupation, and she does it very well. Every Tuesday she
is a ray of golden sunshine to the residents of Herrick Manor.

or those looking to spice up the

chilly fall season and have a taste
for delicious craft cocktails, fret not.
Tammys Tastings Tammy Coxen will
be at Downtown Tecumsehs Evans
Street Station on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to teach a class on
making fall cocktails.
Many times, cocktails made in
bars are uninspired, but a well-made
cocktail can be a real treat. In Tammys
class, one can learn about how to mix
your own drinks at home and how to
order one youll really like at a bar.
When thinking about fall, the scents
and tastes of apples, pears and pies
made with warm spices and molasses

linger in the air. Coxen will be making

craft cocktails inspired by these fall
ingredients.
Not only will the class include
farm-to-glass drinks, inspired by
the Tecumseh Farmers Market, but
participants will also lean how to make
and use different kinds of sweeteners
in cocktails.
Classes are hands on with plenty of
tasting opportunities.

heridan Road is overlooked by thousands

of motorists who travel past it on US-12
every day. The road is west of Clinton and
just before the car dealers that dominate
the intersection of US-12 and M-52. This
is unfortunate for the many harried commuters,
because a few miles north on the often one-lane
Sheridan byway they could receive respite and spiritual
revival provided by the Romanian Orthodox Monastery
that few know about and which welcomes those seeking
a little peace and tranquility.

spokeswoman for the monastery. She attends to the legal,
medical, and translation needs of the five monks and one lay
priest at the monastery. Many of the monks are not fluent in
English, so Romanov offers her services, after the long drive
from her home in Royal Oak, to help the monastery through
any civil legalities and medical necessities that the monks may
require. The monastery is presided over by Auxiliary Bishop,
His Grace Irineu, said Romanov. He is usually present at the
monastery, but he has many duties that call him away in service
to the others in the episcopate.

The mission of the monastery is not proselytization (advancing

the faith); the monks only offer the opportunity and encourage
involvement to pilgrims at the monastery to participate in their
morning and evening services, which are conducted in both
Romanian and English. In short, it is an opportunity for the
weary, the seekers, and the lost to find respite. If you so choose,
you may enter to - as the title of the popular novel suggests - eat,
pray, and love (agape). The third of that trilogy of directives is
significant. Agape is the love of all creation, love of one another,
as the monks express it.

The Clinton monasterys website, www.holy-ascension.org, quotes the
Romanian Spiritual Father Arsenie Boca: There is one serene way: living

The website also encapsulates the philosophy of the monks with a verbal

One of the most obvious differences between Eastern Orthodox and

Roman Catholic is in the depiction of the Cross. Rather than the Western
simple T formation, the Eastern Orthodox Cross has three cross members.
The Romanian Orthodox Cross is quite similar to the Latin Cross.
These are not details that the monks of The Ascension of the Lord

faith: CHARITY, LOVE, AND INTROSPECTION. The monks prefer to
offer the pilgrim a peaceful setting for self-reflection.
The monastery holds daily services with a schedule posted on its website,

Skywalkers Discovery Flights

soar above Lenawee
By Cristina Trapani-Scott
Photos By Shaun Maki
ou could say that Tecumseh resident Jo
Walker has her head in the clouds and she
prefers it that way. As owner and operator
of SkyWalker Flying Pilot School on 2667
W. Cadmus Road in Adrian, she spends a
good deal of time up in the air. She has been
flying for more than 20 years and has flown
herself and her children to nearly every state
in the United States. Three years ago, Walker,

instrument, commercial, certificated flight

instrument, and certificated flight instructor.
She isnt stopping there. Walker and her staff
of instructors, including pilots Kerry Brown
and Matt Sayre, have trained as many as 150
pilots in the past three years. For Walker, its
less about churning out licensed pilots and
more about inspiring people to fly and to love
flying as she does.

Its you and the clouds,

and, honestly, thats the
of it
who had built a career as a theater director,
left her job at the Tecumseh Center for the
Arts to open a flight school. She hired a
staff of instructors to not only train students,
but train her to become a certified flight
instructor. In three years, she has amassed
the credentials needed to teach private
42

One of her favorite things to do at Sky

Walker Flying is to take folks new to flying
in small airplanes like a Cessna up on what
she calls Discovery Rides. Walker was kind
enough to invite my daughter, Kiki, and her
friend, Jessica, and I up on a sunny, warm
August afternoon.

I have flown as a passenger on a good

number of flights, but the difference, of course
is, that as much as we complain that jetliners
pack us in like sardines, they do feel more like
taking a mostly smooth bus ride in the air.
Being in a Cessna 172 is more like being in
Ford Model A with wings. You feel everything.
Its you and the clouds, and, honestly, thats
the beauty of it.
s I write, Im not even sure I can do the
experience justice, but I will try. What makes
Jos flights so interesting is that she never
treats the discovery flights as simple tours.
She wants them to be learning experiences
for all. Jo is a little like a hurricane with the
energy she exudes. She could barely contain
her excitement for flying as she explained why
the flight might be a little choppy. She told us
much the way heat at the bottom of a pan
moves up through water creating bubbles,
so does heat from the earth move up through
air creating bubbles in the air. We listened
intently as she illustrated how birds use those
bubbles to glide in the air and how planes will
fly through those bubbles and that will cause
the bumpy feeling. She talked about what it

takes for a plane to take off and to land.

In the hanger, Jo continued the lesson as
she pulled the little plane by hand to the
runway. All three of us were surprised at
how our heads nearly touched the wing. Jo
adjusted a few things. She asked who wanted
to copilot and then pulled out a cushion for
Kiki, having had her in mind as a copilot all
along. I was prepared for her, hoping she
would come, Jo said.
We all piled in, exactly like we might pile in
a Model A, with perhaps a little bit bigger step.
Jessica and I buckled in and put our headsets
on. Jo helped Kiki into her seat and then she
jumped in. She had Kiki start the plan and we
were off, taxiing to our spot on the runway.
I treat the runway like a highway, said Jo,
as she looked at the skies for anyone coming
in to land. Sure enough, a tail wheel was
prepared to land. Lenawee traffic departing
after watching a beautiful landing, Jo said
into the radio. Love the attention, the other
pilots response crackled through.
ith that, we were taxiing and lifting
off. Below us were the green patchwork fields
of Lenawee County. In the headset were the
sounds of all our shouts of excitement. We
were in the sky. We were the sky for all there
was between us and the outside. Still, I felt as

of l
loo
like
rid
of u

safe as anything with

Jos knowledge and
comfort in her role as
pilot. Once we reached
good altitude she asked
Kiki if shed like to give it
a go and before we knew
it Kiki was at the helm.
She took to it like shed
been flying her whole life.
Jo showed her how to bank
the plane and had her fly up
into a small puff of a cloud. All
the while Jessica and I were whooping and
hollering and taking in Lenawee County from
a perspective wed never seen before. It was all
we could do to contain our excitement.
o said every time she goes up the world
below looks new and different. In the fall its
the colors, she said. In the spring its the
brilliant greens. Some mornings there is the
mist on the water. Sometimes when it is really
clear I can see all the way to Detroit. I can see
the sparkle of the Ren Cen building.
For us, we could see clear to the bottom
of lakes. Jessica marveled at how the cars
looked like Matchbox cars and the houses
like dollhouses. We thoroughly enjoyed the
ride. When we landed, Im not sure anyone
of us could believe what wed actually just

ill know.

done. Kiki got off the plane and mentioned that

perhaps she might want to learn to fly at some
point. Jessica said the whole experience made
her summer. For me, it was a high, literally and
figuratively, that got me through the rest of a rather
stressful week. The experience made me think
perhaps this feeling is why Jo flies, and why she is
so passionate about wanting others to try it.
As we headed home and turned on to M-50,
Kiki said, Mom. Look. The birds are in an air
bubble. There they were, floating like Jo had
explained. It was then I knew that we would never
forget that day and always cherish the memory of
our Discovery Flight.

She started as a Jazzercise instructor in
June of 2013 and took over the Tecumseh
franchise in March. The support from
Jazzercise makes Robertss work easy and
fun.
Roberts loves getting back to her dance
roots that began at Tecumseh Dance
Workshop while she was a student at
Tecumseh Middle School and Tecumseh
High School.
Exercising through dance is Roberts
favorite way to stay healthy. She appreciates
the connections that are a natural part of
the classes at Jazzercise. Jazzercise is
upbeat, said Roberts. Were all here for
the same reason. There are lots of options
out there for fitness. This is my jam.
The sense of community is also an
important part of the Jazzercise program.
Ive made some of the best friends here,
Roberts said. You start sharing whats
happening in your life.
The age of women enjoying the classes
at Jazzercise is varied. According to Roberts,
she teaches women between the ages of
19 and 70. It is pretty cool to see women
of different ages come together, she said.
I appreciate them all being here. I have all
boys in my family, so this is my girl-time.
Different classes in the program target
different muscle groups as well as offer a
variety of dance exercise styles. Increased
endorphins as a result of the exercises
help women feel better mentally as well as
physically.

Exercise is the least-used form of an

anti-depressant, Roberts said. I love
coming to class.
Right now Roberts offers 17 classes a
week. By next spring she hopes to have
25 class options to choose from, including
more afternoon and evening classes. Im
hoping to find some younger teachers,
said Roberts about her future plans.

She knows many women think of
Jazzercise as it was 30 years ago all
spandex and leotards. The truth is classes
are much more modern, creative, and
provide a fun way to exercise.
One way she has tried to show the fun
of Jazzercise is through a partnership
with Tecumseh Parks and Recreation.
Jazzercise was included on the punch
card program sponsored in the Great
Health Challenge this past winter. I love
Parks and Rec, Roberts said. I like
taking classes there, too. We have a nice
relationship.
