Course description:
Vector algebra. Linear spaces. Linear transformations. Matrices and linear systems. Gauss' method and
applications. Scalar products. Gram-Schmidt's procedure and applications. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
Orthogonal and symmetric transformations. Bilinear forms and tensors. Quadratic forms and applications.

Objectives of the course:
The student should obtain fundamental knowledge of 3-dimensional geometric vector space, n-dimensional
real vector space and of linear transformations defined on these spaces.

Course description:
Straight lines and conics. The canonical forms of conics. Planes and straight lines in space. Angles and
distances. Spheres and other quadric surfaces. Curves in space. Frenet's reference system. Curvature.
Torsion. Frenet's formulas. Surfaces. The fundamental forms of Gauss and applications.

Objectives of the course:
The students obtain fundamental knowledge of the 3-dimensional analytical geometry fundamentals and
some introductory notions in the differential geometry of curves and surfaces.

Course description:
Governing equations of classical plasticity.
Effective time integration algorithms.
Applications using the Finite Element Method: beams and plates.

Objectives of the course:
The student should obtain knowledge of theoretical fundamentals and of practical methods
for the nonlinear Analysis of Structures used in Civil Engineering.

Lectures and tutorials.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of Theoretical Mechanics, Strength of Materials and Theory of Elasticity
