GENERAL DATA
MLT has developed the SUPER-SCREW belt fastener system. It is a flexible
rubber splice using self tapping screws. The MLT specific screws spread the
carcass threads without cutting them.
The screwing system allows Super-Screw to be installed regardless of the:
configuration of the conveyor belt,
ease of access,
weather conditions.
The Super-Screw significantly reduces downtime. It can bear service
tensions from 200 kN/m up to 2 000 kN/m. It is available in different
grades of rubber (see below). Simple and practical, the Super-Screw
fastener is very versatile!

BEST WAYS TO PATCH BELTS:
TECHNICAL DATA
For selecting the right Super-Screw fastener you have to analyse
following points:
The belt tension and the strength of the belt (i.e. EP1000 for 1000
kN/m) : on steel cord belt, please contact a BMG specialist for Note
recommendation on the application.
The final belt thickness for the right choice of the screw size (the
rubber on the top and the bottom of the belt must be removed in
order to create a long lasting scraper friendly join).
Rubber quality : wear resistant, oil resistant, heat resistant 150C (170C
flash), heat retardant 170C (200C flash) fire resistant, white (FDA) or
for very low temperature down to -50C. Optional with textile on the
bottom side or with a PU protection cover.
The belt width : order a longer fastener of + 10 % minimum of the
belt width to have a minimum bias of 1/3 of the belt width. If
there is not enough room, the bias has to be 1/10 at least.
The possible request of non magnetic splice : select metallic inserts
made of non magnetic stainless steel and screws made of stainless
steel.

NOTE: You may notice a small gap due to the
elasticity of materials.
3. Cut the coils using the MLT cutting press
or by hand cutting between the metal inserts.
NOTE: MLT manufactures adapted punches.
4. Set the spacers on the internal face of the
bottom part of the Super-Screw and place
the spacer in the first 2 holes of each part,
then, every 3rd hole. Figure 2

ASSEMBLY OF SUPER-SCREW

WITHOUT MARKINGS ON COILS

The coils are delivered with an identifying impression of the size and grade of Super-Screw every metre.
1. Unroll the coils side by side, in the same
direction for each measured length
required.
2. Align the top and bottom (refer to Figure 1
to align the two parts).
NOTE: You may notice a small gap due to the
elasticity of materials.
3. Cut the coils using the MLT cutting press or by
hand cutting between the metal inserts.
NOTE: MLT manufactures adapted punches.
4. Set the spacers on the internal face of the
bottom part of the Super-Screw and place
the spacer in the first 2 holes of each part,
then, every 3rd hole. Figure 2
5. Place the top face of the bottom part (the
internal face against each other). Figure 1
check that the holes on top WARNING:
correspond with those below. If the two parts
are well positioned, light will pass through the
hole.
6. Screw the spacers on, starting with the first
2 from each end.
PRACTICAL TIPS
How to recognize the quality of the Super-Screw rubber: Theres an impression on the top part of the
Super-Screw which indicates the quality of the rubber.

SUPER-SCREW INSTALLATION

Equipment required
a Super-Screw join assembled
a MLT PZ bit
a ruler
a marking pen
a cutter
a powerful electric drill or 18 V or 24 V battery
the quantity of screws needed (see p 4)
the MLT skiver
WARNING
SKIVE, STRIP OR GRIND THE BELT TO COUNTERSINK
THE SUPER-SCREW SPLICE AND AVOID SCRAPER
DAMAGE AND A THICK SPLICE AREA
DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH TOOL
SLIDE UNDERNEATH THE SUPER-SCREW A THICK
WOODEN BOARD
DO NOT SCREW ON A PULLEY, USE A FLAT AREA
USE APPROPRIATE SAFETY GEAR : PPE
ALWAYS BRING SEVERAL DIFFERENT SIZES OF SCREW
IN QUANTITY TO COMPLETE THE JOIN
Areas already screwed are shown in grey
Measure the thickness of the carcass
or the belt to choose the correct
screw length and the right kind of
Super-Screw . For a better passage
over the rollers and the scrapers,
provide a bias installation.
Cut your belt with a 1/3 of
the belt width in bias The
other side of the belt
should be cut with a bias
in the opposite direction.
Skive down both top and bottom
belt rubber covers with the MLT
skiver (check the skived reachback
length into the belt on the page
4 chart)
Chamfer the end of the belt
top and bottom as shown.
Position Super-Screw against
the belt, ensuring that Super-
Screw is resting against the
central spacers.
Start screwing from the center, continue from one end,
then the other end without twisting Super-Screw . Keep
screwing until the screw catches the underneath thread, and
avoid strongly compressing the belt. NOTE : Screw on a
flat and hard thick wooden board.
Spread the screwing process over the whole of
the surface, by screwing every fourth hole along
the row. Repeat the operation over the other(s)
row(s).
Next, screw every second
hole.
In order to get both ends in contact,
unscrew the center part and disassemble
the spacers.
Clamp the belt ends together, while ensuring the belt is
aligned, and resume screwing the other half of
Super-Screw as shown previously. Then, screw the center
part at the end.
Cut the belt end (opposed to the
trailing edge) as shown.
The thin rubber cover over the top metallic inserts will be worn after a short while, allowing a visual control of a correct tightening and
positioning. This has no consequence related to the Super-Screw performance.
SUPER-SCREW INSTALLATION

CORRECT INCORRECT
On chevron belts, Super-
Screw has to be installed
in V or in bias to
avoid a violent contact
between the return roller
and SS.
Both ends of the belt must
be in contact with each
other.
Its important to install
Super-Screw in bias (at
least 1/10 min of the belt
width) to obtain optimal
performance.
Using too long Super-
Screw screws:
- makes a noise over idlers
and can result in the
inserts lifting and possibly
tearing out of the
fasteners.
It is necessary to
countersink the
Super-Screw into the belt
by skiving off the top and
bottom rubber covers of
the belt.
Installation of Super-Screw
must be done on a flat
and wooden board.
PATCH & REPAIR WITH SUPER-SCREW

1. Draw on the belt, an outline of the

Super-Screw around the tear. The
outline should be significantly larger
than the tear.
First ensure that the Super-Screw used is adapt to the forces involved. ive
2. Make a slight cut on the outline.
Avoid going through the fabric.
3. Remove the rubber on the inside
of the outline.
4. Place the upper part of the Super-
Screw on the recessed surface.
Screw the two holes from one end.
Do not tighten fully.
5. Place the bottom part of the
Super-Screw on 2 protruding screws
points. Tighten these 2 screws fully.
5. Screw the entire Super-Screw
with the appropriate screws.
