To Please the Father I. Introduction Each father should carry the heart of a father in him. There is such great power in a father who blesses his children. God wants to be called Father, and that is why He called Adam thus, which means Son of God. The angels also in Heaven were called Sons of God. Our goal should be this: to please the Heavenly father. 2 Peter 1:15-17 says: 15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease. 16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Peter, one of Jesus disciples who witnessed the transfiguration, wrote this. He was speechless then and therefore proposed to Jesus to make 3 altars. One for Him, one for Elijah and another one for Moses. But a voice came from Heaven saying, This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased. Hear Him. That moment was one of the times which Peter recalled. One of the famous verses is John 14:6, which says, 6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. A way only has significance or a meaning if it leads to a certain destination. In this case, Jesus is they Way which leads us to the Father. Read also the following passages: Proverbs 16:19, Matthew 3:7, and Mark 1:11. II. The Revelation of the Father John 17 shows the prayer of Jesus Christ. Jesus mentioned the name Father 6 times. This Father is the Everlasting Father. In the Old Testament times, for 1,400 years, the people had no right to call God Father. He was called Yahweh instead. This was the Name which everyone knew God for. But when Jesus came, He manifested the Name Father to His disciples. In order to call someone Father, there must be a blood connection. Now, we can call God Father because of the Blood of Jesus Christ. And only Jesus can show us the true heart of the Father. All of us are dependent on the Grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot at all perceive the things of God, no matter how hard or how many times we read the Bible, if we do not have the Spirit of God within us and Jesus Christ in our hearts. John 15 tells us that Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches. We must therefore abide in Him. In the first chapter of the Book of Hebrews, Jesus supremacy over the prophets and the angels is shown. In verse 5, it says: 5 For to which of the angels did He ever say: You are My Son, Today I have begotten You? III. Fatherhood
As the song of John Waller Still Calls Me Son goes, truly, even with our mistakes, our Father in Heaven still calls us His Sons. There are 4 things about Fatherhood 1. Fatherhood is the source of our personal identity. We are identified as the sons and daughters of God. Jesus manifested the Name Father to His disciples because He also wanted them to call God their Father. 2. Fatherhood assures us that we have a home in Heaven. There are many mansions in Heaven, and we own one of them. Jesus said that He goes to prepare a place for us. 3. Fatherhood provides total security. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26) Our security is not found in success, money, titles, buildings, careers, and etc. Our security is found in our Father. We are safe when we are held close in His arms, though there are wars, famine, or storms going on around. 4. Fatherhood provides motivation for service. We were not saved only for us to go to Heaven; we were saved to also serve our Father, and to do His will. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 2:3) Jesus had this kind of mindset, and this is the mindset of a Son. Jesus wasnt at all motivated by selfish ambition; He was motivated by the Father. If you are a servant, no matter how hard you serve your master, he will not become so pleased, for you are indeed but a servant. But if you are a son, and you try so hard to serve your father, he will become well- pleased with you and will faithfully reward you according to your works. Question: Are you serving God now in a ministry? IV. How to Please the Father Since Jesus pleased the Father (2 Peter 1:17), we should do what Jesus did while living His life here on earth! In every circumstance or situation, be sure always to ask yourself this very important question: WWJD (What would Jesus do?) By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples (John 15:8). God is pleased when we do His will, and He delights whenever we reach out to a lost brother and bring Him to God our Father. It takes the love the Father in a brother to reach out to a lost one. Therefore, we can only share the Gospel to others if we have the love of the Father in us. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you (John 15:16). Luke 15 presents 3 parables about 3 things which have been lost: (1) A sheep; (2) A coin and; (3) A son. V. Conclusion Ask the Father to remove the barriers from your heart, for God does not desire Christian obligation. He desires Sonship.
