EEPROM has been updated at the factory from June 2013 production and from Serial Numbers listed. As the MFP approaches two million pages, the data on The EEPROM may become corrupt. As a Preventive Measure for machines in the field, Technical Services recommends replacing The EEPROM at the next 600K PM.

As the MFP approaches two million pages, the data on the EEPROM may become corrupt. The most commonly seen issue is incorrect page counts with the following counters: Counter FAX Other2 (Custom size) Counter, Copy Scan Counter, FAX Scan Counter, etc. In most cases, this issue does not occur until the page count is close to two million pages, however, various factors can cause it to occur sooner.
As a Preventative Measure for machines in the field, Technical Services recommends replacing the EEPROM at the next 600K PM, following the provided procedure.
A New Blank EEPROM and Procedure will be included with the MK-8305A/8505A 600K B&W Maintenance Kit for a period of 12 months from the original issue date of this Bulletin. A Label EEPROM Included will be placed on the outside of the MK Kit for identification.
If you find that the Meter Count issue has already occurred, it is necessary to obtain a Programmed EEPROM from KDA. Contact the Diagnostic Center to report the problem and be provided with the procedure to follow. A complete set of status pages are required (Maintenance Mode U000). Lead time for a new Programmed EEPROM is approx. two weeks.
Note: A Blank EEPROM CAN NOT be used to resolve the problem if the Meter Count issue has already occurred.
Field Measure if Error has not Occurred (Summary):
1. Print ALL Status Pages. 2. Download and Install the Exclusive MAIN Firmware to backup the EEPROM data to the HDD. 3. Replace the EEPROM on the Main PWB with the new Blank EEPROM. 4. Restore the backup data from the HDD to the new Blank EEPROM. 5. Print All Status Pages to Check the data for any difference before and after the change. 6. Reinstall the current full Combined Firmware Pack posted on KDAconnect

Backup Procedure:
Backup the EEPROM Data to the HDD using the Exclusive MAIN Firmware.
1. Print All Status Pages, Mode U000. 2. Turn the Power switch OFF. 3. Insert the USB memory Stick containing the Exclusive MAIN Backup Firmware Note: To Prevent an Error, Only One Model MAIN Firmware can be copied onto a USB Stick at a time. 4. Turn the Main Power ON to Upgrade the Firmware. 5. When complete, turn the Main switch OFF, remove the USB Stick, and turn the Power ON. 6. Enter the Maintenance Mode. 7. Select U026 (Pulling Backup Data). Select Backup and press the Start key to execute. 8. Backup is executed. (Active is displayed while processing.) (Time required: Approx. 5 sec). 9. Turn the Power switch OFF when prompted from the panel. (Note) An error code displays next to the button if the procedure fails. Refer to the Error List on Page three.
Restore Procedure:
Restoring the Backup Data on the HDD to the New Blank EEPROM
1. Disconnect the Power cord from the Power outlet. Remove the rear Cover. 2. Remove the EEPROM on the Main PWB (Do not discard or damage) and install the new Blank EEPROM. Be sure all pins are seated correctly on the socket. (See Page three for Precautions). 3. Plug the Power cord in and turn the Power switch ON. 4. Service call error C0180 or C0640 triggers. The C0640 displays if the machine has the Data Security Kit installed.) (Self Diagnosing, Please Wait will Display). Continue the procedure. 5. Enter the Maintenance Mode. 6. Select U026 (Pulling Backup Data). Select Restore and press the Start key to execute. 7. Restore is executed. (Active is displayed while processing.) (Time required: Approx. 5 sec.) 8. Turn the Power switch OFF when prompted from the panel. (Note) An error code displays next to the button if the procedure fails. Refer to the Error List on Page three. 9. Insert a USB Stick with the current Combined Firmware Pack posted on KDAconnect. 10. Turn the Power Switch ON. 11. When completed, turn the Power switch OFF, remove the USB Stick and turn the Power ON. 12. Print All Status Pages, Mode U000 to confirm data (meter counts, etc is same as before the change.

13. If successful, reinstall the rear cover and discard the old EEPROM.
Corrective Measure when Error or Interruption Occurs during the Procedure
When an Error occurs, please reinstall the original EEPROM to the machine and restart the procedure.
1. Turn the Main Power OFF. 2. If an error occurs after replacing the new EEPROM, please reinstall the original EEPROM. 3. Turn the Main Power ON. 4. Select U026 (Pulling Backup Data). Select Reset and press the Start key to execute. 5. Turn the Main Power OFF when prompted. 6. Turn the Main Power ON and resume the procedure starting with Backup procedure.
