Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends and Families,

Are you interested in the Mexico 2016 trip? I hope so! Since 1992, over 275 students have safely and
successfully traveled to Mexico with me. It is a once-in-a-lifetime trip filled with unforgettable moments. I hope
youll find the following information helpful as you and your child or family discuss being a part of this long-
standing travel tradition. Here are the FAQs of the trip to discuss with your student.

Q. Who can go on this trip?
A. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in April of 2016 can go on the trip. You dont need to have taken
Spanish to go on the trip, but it does help. I require that all students on the trip be in good academic standing
and have no school discipline issues. You will miss 3 days of school.

Q. How much does the trip cost?
A. This trip is actually very affordable for the amount of things that it covers. Generally, the airfare is
$800, the Mexico portion is about $1100. I estimate each year that the cost of the trip is $1900. Theres no way
to know for sure, since we are 18 months away, but $1900 is a safe estimate.

Q. Are there any hidden costs?
A. Each student needs to buy a passport, which costs about $150 and each student need to bring their
own spending money-also about $150. I keep an individual account database for each student. By June of 2015,
each student will be required to have $300 in their account so that I can send deposits to our bus service,
airline and guide. This money can be refunded if your child drops out of the trip BEFORE September 4
th
,2015.
There are NO REFUNDS after the September deadline.

Q. What does the cost cover?
A. The cost of the trip is door-to-door. All costs are covered from the minute we leave Lyndonville to
when we return. All the travel, all the meals, all the accommodations, all the tips and fees, all the tours and
excursions, stops at mini-marts. Kids just buy their own presents and souvenirs.

Q. Is there fundraising? And how much money will that raise?
A. We have several fundraisers that we have done over the years. Each year we do the concession at the
Rotary Penny Sale. On the last trip we did a pretty successful Gift Basket raffle that was fun; each student built
their own themed basket and we made catalogues of pictures to show off the baskets. We have in the past done
Pancake Breakfasts, Wal-Mart Gift Card raffles, Superbowl Pools, Bake Sales-I am open to any ideas! We can
also do 2 catalogue sales: Pampered Chef or 31 Bag in the fall, Lia Sophia or Yankee Candle in the spring. We
could also do a VENDOR NIGHT where all our local independent vendors set up a table and we raffle off items
and serve snacks. These fundraisers can generally lower the cost per student by about $250. We welcome all
parent help in these fundraisers!

Q. Who are the chaperones?
A. I am the primary chaperone. Our guide Miguel is our in-country liaison. Parents and family members
are welcome to travel with us as well. Please let me know if this is something you are interested in, keeping in
mind that there is no parent discount but you can fundraise for your own trip.

Q. Who organizes our trip in Mexico?
A. This year marks our second trip as an independent tour and travel group, separate from Lyndon
Institute. Lets Get Going! LLC is my own fully insured travel business. We contract our entire trip, and have
since 1997, to my close friend Miguel Mendez, the owner and operator of Maya Eco Tours. Miguel is a highly
respected and nationally known tour guide, we are his only high school group-his specialty is mostly college
groups and adult bird-watching groups. His son, Gabriel, has been a guest in my home several times on his
college vacations, Gabi has lots of Lyndonville friends here and on Facebook! We have full insurance through
Miguel while we travel; I also purchase travel insurance through Poulous Insurance. Our bus driver, also
named Miguel, owns, insures and operates our own private coach bus for the entire trip. Miguel Mendez takes
care of every detail on our trip. My job is to take care of every kid on our trip! Safety is paramount on our trip,
we are always together as a group no matter where we go. I have never NOT felt safe on any of our trips.

Q. What do we do on our trip?
A. My favorite question! We snorkel on the Yucatan Reef, we swim in the Caribbean, we hike through
the Mexican jungle, we climb Maya temples, we take a boat ride through the jungle of Belize, we shop in Playa
del Carmen, we eat a lot of great Mexican food, we do a full natural salt/mud body mask, we visit flamingoes
and howler monkeys in their natural habitats, we spend a day at a Maya school and hang out with really
awesome little kids who teach us Maya math and words, we eat amazing Mexican ice cream, we have a crazy
Amazing Race night in a public square, we see 500 year old churches from the inside, we talk, we laugh, we get
sunburned. Its an awesome week.
Q. Now what do we do?
A. If this sounds like something you are interested in lets
have our first meeting on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 6

in my
classroom at LTS, room 303 at 7pm. I will have more
information available and we can plan our first fundraiser for
