aid you in securing an internship! The internships listed below are just a sampling of what is available. For

SPRING 2010 EVENTS! SAVE THE DATE!


Coming this Spring! Career Fest 2010, February 1-5, a week of events for USC students centered on
topics related to work, career and the economy engaging the entire university community. The
Career Fair will be held February 11. On-Campus Recruiting begins February 8. Internship Week
will be held February 22-25. The spring Diversity Networking Mixer will be held on February 16.

NEED COURSE CREDIT FOR AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP?


Federal labor law requires that students participating in an internship must either A) be paid by the
employer; or, B) be enrolled in an internship for-credit course. Do you have an unpaid internship and
need course credit? If so, register for one of USC’s 10+ internship courses. For a full list of internship

PAID INTERNSHIPS
 Teach for America – Operations Coordinator
In the summer of 2010, Teach For America will run eight institutes in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los
Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and the Mississippi Delta. Across the eight
institutes, about 4,900 new Teach For America corps members will come together for an intensive
five-week, pre-service training program. The purpose of the institute is to prepare corps members to
produce significant academic gains with their students and assume full-time teaching responsibilities
in the fall. Each institute team works closely with local school districts so that new corps members
can deliver a rigorous academic summer school program to more than 1,500 children in that school
district. Teach For America seeks operations coordinators to support the organization’s efforts to
manage a summer training institute that serves over 500 new teachers and 120 staff members.
Operations coordinators play an integral role in the daily operations at institute. Operations
coordinators are guaranteed a salary of $2,500—$3,000 and lodging and food will be provided by
Teach For America. Operations coordinators implement and maintain staffing operational systems at
the host university site. Work with a direct manager to coordinate special projects for the institute
community. Develop excellent organizational and time management systems. Learn to develop
detailed project plans to attain ambitious goals. For a complete job description and application

 Disney ABC Media Networks – All My Children’s Writer’s Office Internship Program
Start your career in television in an office responsible for creating over 40 years of daytime drama.
The "All My Children" writers’ office is currently seeking 2 hardworking college students to delve
into the daytime serial drama writing world. This is a paid internship which provides interns the
opportunity to support the daily process of a writing team which produces 250 scripts per year.
Projects to be handled by the intern include writing and preparing show synopses. Watch the show on
a daily basis and track revisions. Update individual character histories. Contribute to research for on-
air montages and to track the show’s long history. Photocopy and distribute edited scripts, show
outlines and various writers’ documents. Assist staff with distributing packages via messenger and
overnight services as well as by hand delivery (to the production and network offices). Prepare
envelopes and messenger slips for packages regularly sent out to writers, production staff and
network executives. Undergraduate or graduate student. Writing, Communications, TV/FILM,
English major would be most suitable. Strong interest in soap opera genre and/or the television
writing profession. Time commitment: 2 or 3 days a week, 20-25 hours. If you meet the above

 USC Fisher Museum of Art – Gallery Docent/Receptionist ($8.25/hr)


USC Fisher Museum of Art seeks undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Gallery Docents
and Gallery Receptionists. Students will greet visitors and be expected to give tours and information
about the artwork, while also answering phones and transferring calls. In addition, students will
monitor security for the museum, making sure visitors do not bring in food or drink, do not touch
artwork, etc. Maintain visitor log, monitor lights and floors to make sure everything is in order, keep
gallery tidy, etc. Friendly, outgoing, professional, and ability to speak in front of an audience and to
give tours for students as well as adults. Experience answering phones is very helpful. Reliable,
organized, and flexible. Fine Arts or Art History majors are a plus, but not required. Flexible
schedules desired and the ability to work opening receptions that take place in the evenings and

 CDC Collegiate Leaders in Environmental Health – Environmental Intern ($500/week)


CDC/ATSDR’s National Center for Environmental Health/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease
Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) is offering a 10-week summer internship program for students in
Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, and other related majors to take
place June 9-August 13, 2010. During the course of the internship, students are introduced to
environmental health at the federal level through project collaboration, experiential learning
opportunities, individual environmental health presentations, journal clubs, field trips, brown bag
lunches, and through shadowing and mentoring relationships at CDC/ATSDR. Interns will be based
at CDC/ATSDR’s Atlanta-Chamblee Campus where NCEH/ATSDR is housed. Students are paid
$500 a week during the course of the program. Please go to our website www.cdc.gov/nceh/cleh for
more information and application instructions. Applications are due February 16, 2010. US
citizenship or Permanent Resident with a green card required. Full time enrollment at a college or
university as a rising junior or rising senior by fall 2010. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale. An academic major or demonstrated coursework concentration in Environmental Studies,
Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology or related fields. For more information, please email LT

 NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program ($6,000+ stipend)


NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program Internship provides students with the opportunity to
receive hands-on experience and prepare students for the work force. Students will work with a
mentor in a specific field of study on a project related to NASA’s mission. This is a great way for
students to further obtain their academic and career goals. The internship is offered Summer, Spring
and Fall semesters. Summer session lasts for 10 weeks and interns receive a stipend of $6,000. Spring
and Fall sessions last for 15 weeks and students receive a $9,000 stipend. To qualify students: must
be enrolled at an accredited university and majoring in either science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Must have sophomore, junior, or senior status. Must be U.S.

 Durant Management Corporation – Spring Interns (3 Openings)
Management consulting firm seeks 3 college graduates or Graduate students who have an interest
in Business Management, Project Development, Project Management and the Procurement of Federal
Contracts for Veterans. These training Internships will report directly to the Managing Director who

 MGM Studios – Finance/Accounting Intern


Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. is looking for qualified interns in the Corporate
Accounting/Financial Planning Divisions for the SPRING 2010 semester. This internship offers a
great opportunity for students to participate in the day-to-day operations of the department. Interns
will gain invaluable, hands-on experience in the corporate accounting and financial planning aspects
of the entertainment and media industry. Interns will assist in accounting activities including bank
and general ledger account reconciliations, accounting research and industry studies, as well as
financial planning, overhead analyses and corporate business plan preparation. We are looking for
motivated and creative individuals with an interest in entertainment and media accounting and
finance. Accounting, Finance and Business majors preferred. Candidates MUST be able to receive
credit for the internship (as it is UNPAID) during the semester that it takes place. Hours/days are
flexible but the department is looking for an individual that can work between 15-20 hours weekly.

 Rogers & Cowan – Entertainment Publicity Spring Intern


As the worldwide leader in entertainment public relations, Rogers & Cowan specializes in developing

largest media centers in the world. A Spring internship at Rogers & Cowan is intended to provide a
true learning experience for the student along with the opportunity to observe public relations
professionals in a business environment. It will provide familiarity with the public relations field and
with the functions of a large agency. Our program enables students to develop marketable skills in a
real life professional environment. We currently have openings in the following specialties: Music,
Consumer Product Marketing, Film Fashion, Sports Marketing, Talent, Foreign/International Film
and more. Interns assist our publicists with day-to-day duties including research, writing copy for
news releases and media alerts, coordinating photo shoots and assisting in the organization and
preparation of special events for clients. Interns will also help compile media lists and participate in
creative sessions. Candidates should possess a strong interest in public relations and a desire to pursue
a career in the field. Excellent written communication and research skills are a must; computer
experience in Microsoft Office; good organizational skills and attention to details and deadlines.
Enthusiastic and eager to learn; professional, ability to multi-task, flexible, courteous telephone
manner, accuracy and thoroughness are especially important. All interns must receive college credit
and we must receive verification of such credit. The internship is non-paying and is limited to the

 Newegg – Social Media-Video Production Intern

students seeking a career in marketing, video production and/or public relations. Students will get

FELLOWSHIPS
Drum Major Institute Scholars
The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMI) is a think tank staffed by young progressives who want
to drive public policy, not just lament its failures. We created DMI Scholars to build a farm team of
young leaders brining their activism to public policy careers in government, think tanks, campaigns and
advocacy. Our Summer Institute for DMI Scholars will be in New York City, August 1-15, 2010. There,
you will learn to approach problems through a policy lens and meet people on the front lines fighting for
fair and just public policy. After our intensive summer training, we will help you explore careers in this
field through internships with our progressive partners. If you want to learn how to make an impact on the

2010 International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program


The Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center of Howard University, in cooperation with the U.S.
Department of State, invites college sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply for the International Affairs
Summer Enrichment Program at Howard University. This program is designed to help students,
particularly African-American and other minority group students, increase their understanding of
international affairs issues and learn about and prepare for career opportunities in international affairs.
This will be a six-week program, for which up to 9 credit hours (three courses) of academic credit in
international studies may be awarded. The program emphasizes skills, strategies, and knowledge students
will need to master for success in the area of international affairs and in the competitive Foreign Service
examination process. To give participants greater insight into the policymaking process and international
affairs careers, the program includes visits to the State Department, other U.S. government agencies, and
Capitol Hill, as well as meetings with representatives of non-governmental groups. The Rangel Program
will cover tuition, travel, room, and board for students accepted into the program. Participants also
receive a stipend. Students must be American citizens, be full-time undergraduate students who have
completed their sophomore year in college before the program begins, and have at least a 3.2 grade point
average. The selection committee may consider students who have completed their freshman year if they

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program


Howard University, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, invites outstanding individuals
interested in international affairs and careers in the U.S. Foreign Service to apply for the 2010 Charles B.
Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowships. Graduating seniors and recent college graduates with
strong academic records and an interest in international affairs are encouraged to apply. The Rangel
Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the
Foreign Service and those with financial need. Those selected will receive support for graduate school
and enter into one of the most exciting and rewarding careers available. We expect to provide 20
fellowships in 2010. Program Benefits:
• An orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at Howard University in Washington,
D.C.
• Two paid summer internships, one on Capitol Hill the summer after selection and one overseas
in a U.S. embassy during the summer between the first and second years of graduate school.
• Up to $34,000 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master’s degree
in international affairs, public administration or other relevant area to the work of the Foreign
Service.
• Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship
• Employment in the State Department Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the
program and Foreign Service entry requirements, with a contractual agreement committing
each Rangel Fellow to a minimum of three years of service as a Foreign Service Officer

Must be US citizen. Must be seeking admission to enter a graduate school in the fall of 2010 for a two-
year program. Must have cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of
