Phoenix Key Press Cheat Sheet

NVRAM Init
2-line Display
1. With the device off, simultaneously depress and hold the [] and [Cancel] buttons.
2. Power on the device.
3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons.
When the NVRAM init has been completed, the device will return to the ready state.

Color Graphical Display (pre Orion/Nebula)
1. With the device off, press and hold the lower right quadrant of the touch screen.

2. Power on the device.
3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons.
When the NVRAM init has been completed, the device will return to the ready state.

Color Graphical Display (Orion/Nebula and future)
1. Turn the device on.
2. As soon as the black and white HP logo appears, press and hold the lower right quadrant of the touch screen.
3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons.
When the NVRAM init has been completed, the device will return to the ready state.

Note: If the display is touched before the black and white logo appears, then the button press will not be registered, and the nvram init will not
occur. If the display goes to the Initializing screen without showing the Permanent storage init. message, then reboot the device and try again.
Also Note: starting with Orion/Nebula, it takes about 45 seconds before the Permanent storage init message appears. The delay time was
increased to avoid accidental triggering of an init.

Super NVRAM Init
2-line Display
1. With the device off, simultaneously depress and hold the [] and [Cancel] buttons.
2. Power on the device.
3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons. When the super NVRAM init has been completed, the device will
return to the ready state.

Color Graphical Display (pre Orion/Nebula)
1. With the device off, press and hold the lower left quadrant of the touch screen.1
2. Power on the device.
3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons. When the super NVRAM init has been completed, the device will
return to the ready state.


Color Graphical Display (Orion/Nebula and future)
1. Turn the device on.

3. When you see the message Permanent storage init., release the buttons.

For Cougar, press and hold only the arrow key at boot.
Code download mode
1. With the device off, simultaneously press and hold the [OK] and [Cancel] buttons. NOTE: Not supported on devices with touch screens.
2. Power on the device.
3. When you see the message Ready 2 Download, release the buttons. The device can accept new firmware for download.


Secondary service menu
The secondary service menu is intended to be used by manufacturing engineers, service engineers, developers, and support personnel. This menu
will allow a user to perform various tests and print out special reports.
To access this special menu, perform the following steps:

1. Press [Setup] to enter the main menu system.

2. Press [] quickly followed by [Cancel].
3. Press [Setup] to re-enter the main menu system.2
4. Press the arrow keys to navigate to the secondary service menu

Color Graphical Display (Orion/Nebula and future)
1. Press [Setup] to enter the main menu system.
2. Press the empty area between the [Home] and [Help] buttons (B in above picture), quickly followed by [Back].
3. Press [Setup] to re-enter the main menu system.
4. Press the arrow keys to navigate to the secondary service menu

Developers menu
The developers menu is intended to be for use only by manufacturing engineers, service engineers, and developers. To access this special menu,
perform the following steps:

3. Press [Setup] to re-enter the main menu system. 2
4. Press the arrow keys to navigate to the developers service menu

Color Graphical Display (Orion/Nebula and future)
1. Press [Setup] to enter the main menu system.
2. Press the empty area between the [Back] and [Home] buttons (A in above picture) quickly followed by [Home].
3. Press [Setup] to re-enter the main menu system.

If the device does not have a [Setup] button, press the [OK] or arrow keys instead.
4. Press the arrow keys to navigate to the developers service menu

Note: On ROM release builds, the developers menu will only be available if the debug jumper has been installed.
Demo page
Press [OK] and [Cancel] at the same time when the device is in a ready state. There is not a shortcut key press for devices with touch screen displays.
Config page
Shortcut key press to print a configuration page.

2-Line Display & Color Graphical Display (pre-Orion/Nebula)
Press [Cancel] and [Back] at the same time.

Color Graphical Display (Orion/Nebula and future)
Not supported.

Touch screen calibration
Shortcut key press to initiate the touch screen calibration .
Press the Help button to open the Help Menu. Press [Home] and [Help] and [CANCEL] at the same time. 3

Note: The Touch Screen Calibration is only used on capacitive touch screens (pre Orion/Nebula). IR Touch screens do not require manual
calibration, and therefore this item is not supported on those.
