This is ground-breaking and very successful course developed by WHO to meet the
requests from many individuals and organizations, and to respond to a clear need for
more effective planning, research and implementation of rational medicines use
practices in the community. It is a condensed version adopted from the official two
weeks WHO course on Promoting Rational Drug Use in the Community. There will also
be a focus rational use of antibiotics.

The course is specifically aimed for policy makers, management staff from Ministries of
Health, ARV programme managers, NGO officials responsible for national and local
programmes, development aid agencies, social scientists, pharmacists and other
public health professionals interested in Promoting Rational Drug Use in the
Community.
The course is participatory in nature and uses the knowledge, skills and experiences of
participants as a major resource throughout. Teaching methods include group
activities, fieldwork, presentations and discussions. The course will be conducted in
English. The participants are required to have a good command of this language to
participate efficiently.

Nirmal Gurbani, PhD is professor at IIHMR, Jaipur. He is the secretary of Rajasthan
Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (RSPRUD). He worked with WHO-India
Essential Drugs Programme. He has assisted the RSPRUD in training of medical officers
in the World Bank assisted Rajasthan Health System Development Programme

About the Institute

The Programme will start on Sunday, 16 November 2014 and conclude on Tuesday, 25
November 2014. The programme is scheduled to be at Institute of Health
Management Research, Jaipur, India.
A certificate of participation on completion of the programme will be issued by
Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur, India.
Indian Participants: Rs. 37,000 per participant plus 12.36% service tax
Foreign Participants: USD 1000 per participant plus 12.36% service tax
The fee covers tuition fee, training material, stay in air-conditioning room (twin-
sharing basis), breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/coffee during the programme and pick-up
and drop from Jaipur airport/railway station/bus stand.
(* for accommodation on single occupancy basis Rs. 1000/USD 20 per day will be
charged extra)
Depending upon availability of funding support, a partial or full program fee waiver
can be considered for deserving candidates from India who are unable to find financial
support. Such aspiring candidates may send a motivation letter along with their CV for
attending the course to the Course Coordinator.
