6- There are several factors that companies should consider while trying to

incorporate their ethical values to their workplaces. I will be discussing the four,
which I think the most important factors that influence the ethical quality of the
work place by illustrating the examples from the WorldCom case study.
First of all, each organization should generate a written code of conduct
and publish it to help employees to understand/identify, what is acceptable or
unacceptable in the work place. While this written code of conduct may help
companies to transfer their values, principles and ethical expectations to their
employees, it may also create standards between departments in the company.
Failure to create standards between departments may cause chaotic
environment in the business places as in the example of the WorldCom case.
Direct quote from their former management Each department had its own rules and
management style. Nobody was on the same page. In fact, , there were no written
policies. clearly shows, how not having written code of conduct contribute to
failure of creating ethical organization for WorldCom. This code of ethics and
standards should be revised and updated responding to the industries and
societies needs otherwise it would turn to be useless document.
As a supplement to written code of conduct, confidential reporting
systems provides employees to direct their concerns for unethical behavior to
upper managements attention, without the fair of loosing their positions in the
company. These confidential reporting systems also reduce the risk of peer
pressure that wishle blowing may cause. This redline can be use as employees
can call ask their questions as well so they can be informed and further
supported by this reporting system following to written conduct.
Organizational rewards for the ethical behaviors are another key
players that affect the ethical quality of an organization. If the companies rewards
ethichal behaviours dependence on to confidential reporting sytem can be
reduced. In this way employers will have a confidence that they will not loose
their position but they may even get in to better position since they did a good
thing for their company. This will deliver to other employers to message that if
they want to get rewarded they should do ethical. While this may works most of
the time it may fail in some cases since that wishle blower may not to be exposed
since they still afraid from the peer pressure. Company should work really hard to
find a way for rewarding system when to reward when not to since rewarding
system may not work in practice as in the theory.
Last but not the least, leadership empowerment is may be the most
important fact among the others, since it will actually represent what the
company stands for. It will also represent doing instead of saying. It will deliver
employees to idea to act like their bosses. It will help them to interlenisation
process.
