The Mathcad ! contains the follo%ing?

Internet 9:plorer (.08 %hich is recommended for optimal appearance and functionalit, of the
on-line 6elp. To install I9 (.08 run Ie4Setup.EXE in the \IE folder on the !. In order to
have improved on-line 6elp8 the I9 (.0 icon does not need to appear on ,our des/top8 nor

3. Installation
Before upgrading
If ,ou are upgrading from an earlier version of Mathcad to Mathcad 88 ma/e sure ,ou still have
the earlier version of Mathcad installed on ,our s,stem. )lternativel,8 ma/e sure ,ou have the
serial number or the installation media for the earlier version. The upgrade installation first
attempts to locate the earlier version on ,our s,stem before it installs Mathcad 88 and it installs
Mathcad 8 over the earlier version b, default. Aou ma, choose another location during the
installation if ,ou desire. If the installation does not find the earlier version of Mathcad installed8
it prompts ,ou to enter the serial number or insert the installation media.
Note to beta testers
If ,ou installed a beta version of Mathcad 88 ,ou should first uninstall the beta version before
installing Mathcad 8. To uninstall Mathcad 8?

General installation instructions
Aou should first read and accept the license agreement found in the beginning of the Mathcad
Users Guide. Then install Mathcad 8 Professional?
Insert the ! into ,our !-"#M drive. The first time ,ou do this8 the ! %ill automaticall,
start the installation program.
If the installation program does not start automaticall,8 ,ou can start it b, choosing Run from
the Start menu and t,ping D:\SETUP 0%here DD:D is ,our !-"#M drive1. lic/ #E.
$hen prompted8 enter ,our product serial number8 %hich is located on the bac/ of the !
case.

Typical vs. custom vs. compact installation
The custom installation gives ,ou the option of installing the follo%ing?
Mathcad 0rofessional 0ro!ram 3iles? all the files necessar, to run Mathcad and
Mathonne: and their on-line 6elp s,stems.
Resource Center 3iles? reference files consisting of tutorials8 reference tables8 discipline-
specific Mathcad files8 and in-depth guides to topics such as programming in Mathcad. If ,ou
choose not to install the "esource enter files8 ,ou must have the ! available %hen ,ou
choose Resource Center from the Mathcad 4elp menu in order to access the "esource
enter contents.
Sample "3I 3iles5 e:amples of files ,ou can use to create a user !77 for Mathcad using
or @@.
The compact installation installs the Mathcad and Mathonne: program files and sample 9>I
files8 but not the "esource enter files. If ,ou choose a compact installation8 ,ou must have the
! available %hen ,ou choose Resource Center from the Mathcad 4elp menu in order to access
the "esource enter contents.
The t,pical installation 0the default1 installs all of the Mathcad and Mathonne: program files8
the "esource enter files8 and sample 9>I files.

If ,ouMre upgrading to Mathcad 8 from Mathcad +8 ,ouMll notice that %eMve reorganiIed the menu
commands to ma/e them more intuitive. The 9ie:; Insert; and 3ormat menus are ne%8 and the
*e6t and -raphics menus have been removed. 5ome other specific changes include?
3ile1"6port ,or$sheet has been removedL ,ou ma, no% save a Mathcad %or/sheet in "T>
format using the 3ile1Sa2e &s command.
3ile18pen UR< has been removed. To open a file via its ="78 choose Resource Center
from the 4elp menu and clic/ the second button from the left 0the globe1 on the toolbar8 and
enter the ="7.
3ile1Insert has been removed. op, and paste the regions of a %or/sheet to insert them.
The 3ile1-et 3rom 'otes and 3ile1Sa2e to 'otes commands have been removed. This
functionalit, is no longer available.

been moved to the Insert menu.

The -raphics menu has been deleted and the available commands have been distributed
among other menus. =se the Insert1-raph pic/ to insert available built-in t%o- and three-
dimensional plot operators8 and use the Insert10icture command to insert a picture operator.

The available Sym(olics menu commands are identical to those in Mathcad P7=5 +.0 but
have been renamed or reordered for clarit,. The Differentiate on 9aria(le; Inte!rate on
9aria(le; Sol2e for 9aria(le; and Su(stitute for 9aria(le commands have been grouped
under the Sym(olics19aria(le command. Sym(olics1Deri2ation 3ormat has been renamed
Sym(olic1"2aluation Style and Sym(olics1Deri2e in 0lace is no% part of the 9valuation
5t,le dialog bo:.
Most %or/sheet management commands formerl, on the ,indo: menu have been moved to
the 9ie:; Insert; and 3ormat menus. ,indo:1Coom; ,indo:1Refresh8 and the toolbar
hiding and vie%ing commands have been moved to the 9ie: menu. The ,indo:1&nimation
commands have been renamed 9ie:1&nimate and 9ie:10lay(ac$. The ,indo:1Chan!e
Colors command has been moved to the 3ormat1Color command.
The #oo$s menu has been removed. Aou can open an 9lectronic Boo/ b, choosing 8pen
#oo$ from the 4elp menu. To access the boo/ annotation commands8 choose them from the
#oo$ menu in the 9lectronic Boo/ %indo%.
The 4elp menu offers pic/s for Mathcad 4elp8 the Resource Center8 and Usin! 4elp. The
!es/top "eference and Tutorial 9lectronic Boo/s have been integrated into the "esource
enter8 the 5ampler 9lectronic Boo/ has been removed8 and Technical 5upport 6elp has been
removed.

the \DOC\FUNCDOC subfolder of the Mathcad folder. >or more information on creating a

To control the print 2ualit, of -! plots8 use the options on the )dvanced page of the --! Plot
>ormat dialog bo:. $hen B6igh Gualit, PrintingC is chec/ed8 the -! plot is printed using ,our
printer resolution. #ther%ise8 the -! plot is printed at *&0 dpi. To control the printing default for
all ne% -! plots8 ma/e sure B6igh Gualit, PrintingC is set as desired8 then chec/ B5et as default.C
The printing information is then recorded in the registr,. 'ote? Aou onl, need to chec/ B5et as
defaultC once.
*llegal conte"t error in a function definition
!efinitions such as f0:1?=K@: %here K is a range variable are no longer supported. The, issue the
error BIllegal conte:t. Press >* for help.C If ,ou created a %or/sheet in an earlier version of
Mathcad %hich contains such definitions8 consider redefining the function so that the range

Brea( statements outside of a loop behave differently
The behavior of the Bbrea/C programming operator in Mathcad 8 is slightl, different from the
behavior in earlier versions of Mathcad. )s in earlier versions8 if ,ou use the Bbrea/C
programming operator in the main branch of a program 0rather than inside a BforC or B%hileC
loop18 Bbrea/C returns the result of the last instruction. In Mathcad 88 ho%ever8 if the Bbrea/C
operator is used in conKunction %ith the BifC operator8 the Bbrea/C operator returns *8 since the
condition is true %hen the brea/ is e:ecuted.
&cripting an ob/ect using 0B&cript and 1&cript
The scripting languages currentl, supported b, the 5criptable #bKect component are Qscript
version . and 3B5cript version. Aou can do%nload current versions of 3B5cript and Q5cript from
http://www.microsoft.com/scripting .
-) graphs that re,uire more than one argument
5ince Mathcad 8 supports multiple -! plots per graph8 there must be parentheses around the
arguments for a single three-dimensional plot that re2uires more than one argument. >or e:ample8
a -! scatter plot re2uires three arguments separated b, commas. In Mathcad 88 these arguments
must be enclosed together in a set of parentheses. If ,ou open a %or/sheet containing a -! scatter
plot created in an earlier version of Mathcad8 ,ouOll see parentheses around the arguments.
Multiple vector field plots
)lthough ,ou can create a vector field plot and other -! plots on a single graph8 ,ou cannot
create more than one vector field plot on a single graph.

Mathcad re2uires an, function being integrated over an infinite limit to be real.

The 5I unit s,stem is the default unit s,stem in Mathcad 88 giving ,ou access to standard 5I unit
names 0including single-letter abbreviations such as ) for ampere8 ' for ne%ton8 etc.1. Ta/e care
%hen defining variables in Mathcad %or/sheets not to redefine built-in unit names in the 5I
s,stem. hoose Unit from the Insert menu to bro%se a list of units in the default unit s,stem of

2utdated functions
Aou should avoid using the functions R"&D8 ,RI*"8 &00"'D8 and until. )lthough the, are
supported in Mathcad 88 their use is not recommended and the, ma, not be supported in future

To access the ollaborator, in Mathcad 88 choose Resource Center from the 4elp menu to open
the main page of the "esource enter. Then clic/ on the ollaborator, button.

version of Internet 9:plorer &.0.
Multiple uses for ,uote (ey
The 2uote 0"1 has man, uses in Mathcad 8. In a blan/ space in the Mathcad %or/sheet it begins a
te:t region. If ,ou have selected a math e:pression8 it introduces the comple: conKugate operator.
In a math placeholder it begins a string variable.
