My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Nicky Gumbel (main instigator of the alpha course) once told a story of a young man on a beach that had washed up an amazing, impossible to count number of crabs. The young man saw their predicament and decided that he would start to throw each one that he had picked up back in to the sea to save their lives out of care and concern. Another young man approached him and asked "Why on earth are you doing that? There are thousands of crabs. How are you going to save them all? What does it matter?"The first young man turned back to pick up another crab and throw it back in the sea, and said - "It matters to this one!"
We approach harvest season and we give thanks to God for all the provision that he has given in our lives; many of us food and shelter, many of us money and possessions, many of us a job, many of us health and strength. There are Harvest services in each of our churches over the next weeks and I strongly encourage each of you to attend at least one to give thanks to God for a that he gives in our lives. May I thank everyone involved in decorating the churches and involved in any way in the services, without whom there would not be any Harvest services. Thank you one and all.
J esus said, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few". Over the weeks ahead let us reconsider our walk with the Lord in how we help in the spiritual harvest of serving Him and reaching out to Him. Our time, talents, spiritual gifts and resources are all to be utilised in the Lord's harvest - the mission of the church. It may seem like a daunting task at times and we may feel we have very little to offer, but reflect afresh on the story of the crabs and reaching even one person with the love of Christ in word or deed. It is amazing then or in the future what God can do through that opportunity.
Have a wonderful harvest season!
God bless you all - Geoffrey

Please let Captain Geoffrey know if you are interested by 24th October.
Building Blocks Training Event Building Blocks is an excellent resource for children's ministry. They are holding a one day conference in Dublin on 22nd November with Lucy Moore (founder of Messy Church). It is a day of seminars and workshops, including teaching the bible through crafts, creative prayer ideas, discipline, storytelling and drama, under 5's and more. It will run from 9.30am to 4pm. May I encourage all who work with Children's Ministry or those interested in doing so to think about attending. For more information, please contact Captain Geoffrey.
Sunday School Sunday School operates in St Nicholas', Dundalk during the Sunday morning services for all school aged children from 4 to 12/13 (Confirmation). We have 2 groups: the junior group for 4 to 7 years and the senior group for 8 to 12 years. For health and safety reasons we are unable to have children under the age of 4 years in Sunday School. There are soft toys and games available in the vestry for parents to take babies and toddlers during the service
