Output devices for disabled people:

Large font size/ use of color: helps people who are partially-sighted since the larger icons
and/or colourful outputs on large screens are much easier to see.
Braille printers: dot matrix printers can be modified to produce raised dots, this helps blind and
partially-sighted people to read the output.
0Voice synthesis: loud speakers and special software are used to output information in the form of
sound to help blind and partially-sighted people; it also helps people who have difficulty
reading/understanding text.
Input devices for disabled people:
Touch screens: for people who cant use keyboard allowing input; also helps people with learning
difficulties since icons are easier to understand.
On screen keyboards: for people who cant use keyboards (use hand wand to select letters).
Voice recognition: Blind and partially-sighted people can communicate with a computer using
microphone and software.
Tracker ball: easier to use than a mouse if people have problems using their arms and hands or if
they have a coordination problem.
Large keyboards: these help people who have difficulty using normal keyboards (either because of
difficulty using hands/ arms or coordination problem).
PRINTERS:
+Impact printers: Refers to a class of printers that work by banging a head or needle
against an ink ribbon to make a mark on the paper. This includes printers, daisy, and line
printers
Non impact printers: A type of printer that does not operate by striking a head against a
ribbon. Examples of nonimpact printers include laser and ink-jet printers.



Advantages of impact printers
1. Low cost of consumables (Ink) because they use multi-pass ribbons
2. Can print on multi-part forms (Carbon or Carbonless)
3. Can print on page sizes other than 8 1/2 x 11 You can get custom sizes
4. There are specialty impact printers that can have multiple forms loaded simultaneously and be
selected by software.
Disadvantages of impact printers
1. .they make so much noise that nobody wants them near
2. if tractor driven the perf edge is a hassle
3. separating the sheet forms
4. no printing on back
5.no collating
advantages of non-impact printers
Much faster printing
- Much lower ink cost over time
- Less Maintenance
- Better for multi-use
- Expanding technology (Will be easier to find parts, toner, etc.)
- More paper/Less time refilling paper
- Less noise (No back and forth shuffling sound)
- Much more reliable
- Professional Look (Laser has more clean/professional prints)
- Better Utility (Many will staple/hole punch perfectly for you)
Disadvantages of non impact printers
- Less detail (Unless you buy a top-of-the-line laser printer)
- More money up front for Toner (ink)
- Cost more
- More complicated maintenance
- Harder to use with old PC's/Technology
