N
ext week will see a wave of
strikes against the Tories in the
public sector. Tere are set to
be three days of mass strikes over pay.
In London, tube workers will also be
out for 48 hours against service and
job cuts.
Tis action, along with big protests
planned for the weekend after the
strikes, gives us the best chance to hit
the Tories since Julys strikes (when 1.5
million workers took action).
Te Tories talk of a recovery, but its
only for the rich. As the squeeze on our
living standards grinds on, every worker
needs to ght for a pay rise and to
defend our public services.
Insulting
On Monday 13 October hundreds
of thousands of workers in the NHS
in England will strike together from
7-11am to highlight the insulting pay
oer made to the people who struggle
to keep our health service running.
Every trade unionist and every
campaigner has to go all out to get
support for the ght. In some areas
breakfasts for the NHS are being held
on their picket lines to show solidarity.
On Tuesday 14 October hundreds of
thousands of local government workers
(members of Unison, Unite and the
GMB) and college lecturers (members
of UCU) are set to strike over pay.
Tere is talk that the local
government strike might not happen
because of a proposal on pay made by
the Labour-controlled employers body,
the Local Government Association. But
the proposal amounts to a repackaging
of the rotten 1 percent oer.
Local government unions should not
pull back from strikes if whats on oer
is just more of the same.
Workers in local government need
to go all out to make the strike a big
success, preparing picket lines and
organising strike day rallies.
