(ith the e,ception of the -nited .tates' /ID0112 is the commonly used term for
this revision' The National enter for %ealth .tatistics+ as authorized by the $%&+
has developed a linical 3odi!cation+ thereby calling it ID01103' ID01103 is
utilized to assign codes to diagnoses documented by physicians in all settings' The
enters for 3edicare and 3edicaid .ervices "3.# has developed ID0110P.+ a
procedural coding system used only in the inpatient setting' The urrent
Procedural Terminology "PT# (ill remain the procedural coding system in the
outpatient setting'
In 411)+ the Department of %ealth and %uman .ervices "D%%.# published a !nal
rule re5uiring ID01103 and ID0110P. compliance for all %IPAA transactions by
&ctober 1+ 4116' %o(ever+ D%%. issued a !nal rule for a one year delay+ re5uiring
compliance by &ctober 1+ 411*' The scope of this implementation (ill have a
pervasive impact on the facility as (ell as the health care industry as a (hole' This
(ill be a signi!cant underta7ing and (ill re5uire organization0(ide preparation'
