A Brief Introduction of
Master Zhao Youbin
Master Zhao Youbin is the fifth generation in the Yangs Tai Chi family
tree. He is President of Xi'an Yongnian Yang Familys Tai Chi Association, Vice
President of Xi'an Wushu Association, Vice Director of the Department of Tai
Chi Quan of Shaanxi Province, China, and Director of Zhao Yaobin Yangs Tai
Chi Quan Training Centre. He is also Committee Member of the Wushu Branch
of the National Society of Sports and Science. In recognition of his contribution
to Tai Chi Quan (Tai Chi) in China, he was awarded the prestigious title of
National Wushu Duan Level 8 by the Chinese government.
Master Zhao Youbin began to learn Tai Chi techniques from his father,
Zhao Bin when he was seven. He started teaching Tai Chi since he was sixteen.
After over fifty long years continuing study and practice, he had inherited all
skills of Tai Chi, from Tai Chi Quan, Tai Chi Sword, Tai Chi Broadsword, Tai
Chi Spear to Tai Chi Push-hands, from his father. Thousands of students from
home and abroad had come to learn Tai Chi from him. Master Zhao has become

one of the most distinguished teacher among all the fifth generation Tai Chi
Masters.
Master Zhao had made many contributions for advancing Tai Chi nationally
and internationally. In 1991, he organized the first China -Taiwan Yangs Tai Chi
Exchanges Gathering in Xian, China. The event was highly successful and was
published headlines in the local press. Subsequently, Master Zhao had also
organized various other Tai Chi events and participated in various national and
international exchanges. Because of the successes, Xi'an Yongnian Yang
Familys Tai Chi Association was awarded many recognitions including the title
of Advanced Tai Chi Association by the Wushu Administration Center of the
State General Administration of Sports (SGAS) of China and China Wushu
Association in 2006, the title of Advanced National Healthy Sports Association
and many other provincial and individual recognitions from the Shanxi Province
and the Xian city.
Master Zhao had devoted a lot of time and effort to teach students from
home and abroad Tai Chi. His footprint can be found in more than 12 provinces

and over 30 cities across the country including Xinjiang, Heilongjiang, Yunan,
Guangdong, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Hebei, Shandong,
Shaanxi, Taiwan, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR. His students from USA,
Germany, Britain, Canada, Spain, Norway, Australia, France and Southeast Asia
had either come to China to learn from him or had invited him to visit the
countries for exchanges. He had taught Tai Chi in Thailand for over 10 years and
had established a good reputation and cultivated friendship with the local
community in the country. The Tai Chi Quan Association of Thailand had
honoured him with the award of Eternal Achievement for recognition of his
contributions to the development of Tai Chi in Thailand.
Master Zhao Youbin is also dedicated to the research and study of Tai Chi.
He was one co-author of a classic book of Tai Chi entitled Genuine Yangs Tai
Chi. The book was jointly published by him, his father, Zhao Bin and Zhao
Bins disciple, Lu Dimin. Master Zhao is also author of several other well
acclaimed Tai Chi books and video recordings including Traditional Yangs Tai
Chi Lectures, Traditional Yangs Tai Chi 85 Forms, Traditional Yangs Tai

Chi 28 & 37 Forms, Traditional Yangs Tai Chi Broadsword 13 Forms and
Sword 51 Forms. He had also published many articles in the several national
journals. His series on The Interpretation of the Verses of Tai Chi Forms by
Yang Chengfu was jointly published by Zhonghua Wushu Journal, Wudang
Journal and Taiji Journal. He was also an author of the series of Lectures by Tai
Chi Master published monthly in the Zhonghua Wushu Journal. In recognition
of Master Zhaos genuine Tai Chi style and his deep understanding of Tai Chi,
his name has been included in the Dictionary of Famous Wushu Masters of
China and the Who in the World .
In recognition of his success, the Wushu Administration Center of the State
General Administration of Sports (SGAS) of China invited Master Zhao to take
part in developing new course material for the National Wushu Duan
Examination at Levels 1 - 6 in 2008. From 2009, Master Zhao attended various
National Wushu Duan activities and assisted the SGAS in roles of course tutor
and examiner.
