1. Read the interview and add the missing information to the paragraph below.
Interviewer: Do you enjoy playing sports?
Manuel Estrada: Sure. I especially like basketball, soccer, and skiing.
Interviewer: Do you do all of those sports now?
Manuel Estrada: Yes, and I also do a lot of swimming and snorkeling.

Manuel Estrada: Oh, probably basketball. I really like team sports.
Interviewer: I see. Did you play basketball when you were a child?
Manuel Estrada: Yes. My brother and I spent a lot of time shooting
hoops together.

No Time for Sports
Basketball, , and skiingthese are some of the
sports that Manuel Estrada enjoys. Of all these sports, however, basketball
is his favorite because he really likes sports. Estrada played a lot
of basketball when he was a . My brother and I spent a lot of
time shooting hoops , he said. Unfortunately, nowadays he
doesnt have a lot of time to basketball. He and some friends can
only get together about a month to play.
Like Manuel Estrada, a lot of my friends enjoy sports but they dont
have enough time to play. For some reason, playing sports and getting
exercise isnt very important in our society. When people have some free
time, they dont play sports. They watch sports on TV, go to the movies,
or go out to eat.

Quickwriting
Quickwriting is a good way to collect ideas for writing. Follow these instructions
when you quickwrite:

Re-read your quickwriting and circle the ideas you might want to use
in your writing.
4. What is your reaction to the information in your interview? Spend five minutes

Did your classmates answers make you think of anything from your own experience?
Which answer interested you the most? Why?
5. Write about your classmates interests in sports. Use your quickwriting for ideas.
Paragraph #1: Report several things that you learned from the interview.
Paragraph # 2: Give your reaction to the ideas in the interview.
6. In class, exchange papers with a classmate. Read your partners paper and think of
three questions to ask. Exchange papers again and answer your partners questions.
7. If you choose to revise your writing, look at the suggestions on page 78.
