Multi Parameter Monitoring Robot For Poisonous Gases And Nuclear
Radiation Detection
Abstract
In any industry workers safety is a major concern to ensure the smooth running of the industry. All
of the systems existing presently are limited in their reach and applications. There are some specific
industries like mining, chemical and oil and gas related industries, where systems for personnel
safety and emergency response are almost nonexistent.
In industries like mining having a fixed system for environment monitoring and safety surveillance is
not possible because of the nature of the industry itself, where in the location of work keeps
changing almost on a daily basis. Hence a wired or even a wireless fixed network is not a practical
solution. Such an industry requires a monitoring solution that moves with the workers as and when
then move to new locations.
In this project a battery operated robotic vehicle will be implemented that can go to various places
within the industry, even in remote conditions. The robot has communication either in the form of
Zigbee transceivers or as general RF transceivers. Also the robot has a host of sensors for detecting
various hazardous conditions, like poisonous gases, combustible gases etc.
This robot can be used to scan a coal mining area prior to sending workers in the area. For this the
robot can be controlled from a control room, using the wireless communication. The robot is
capable of detecting the presence and the concentration of the gases. The safe threshold of gases
for continuous human inhalation is preprogrammed in the robotic vehicle.
Once the robot is in the field it can go into any area and do a complete and thorough assessment of
the area for various hazardous conditions. In this project the demonstration will be for a coal mine
related application and hence poisonous gases are considered. The nature of the sensors and
application can be changed depending on the industry.

Existing System
1. In the existing system, the industries have an alarm for intimating workers about hazardous
gases.
2. The person will not be aware of gas leakage if he is not in that place.
.
Proposed System
1. Green house gases can be monitored with the help of Robot
2. The alert will be given through wireless communication, so that the user can put the
machine back in order.
