Should you be elected, what are three specific areas youd like to change, address, improve or further research,
and how specifically would you go about it?:

The most important issue facing Ohio today is a lack of jobs. In order to attract more jobs Ohio needs to become
more business friendly. Although weve made progress in this arena, much more needs to be done. Far too many
Ohioans are still out of work and too many of our companies are struggling. As I mentioned progress has been
made. For example, unemployment numbers have gone from significantly trailing the national averages to
leading the national averages. Ohios exports and wages are increasing at significantly faster rates than
national averages. In 2013 Ohio was the number 1 job creator in the Midwest. Of course these are all positive
indicators, but much more needs to be done.
State government has helped. We reduced income taxes, small business taxes and needless regulations while
balancing the state budget. All of these actions help make Ohio a more business friendly state that can then
retain and attract more jobs. If elected, some of the projects I plan on working on in the next session include:
(1) I believe the legislature in concert with the Governor should stay the course and not take our foot off
the pedal. We must continue to reduce taxes and regulations, while working even harder to improve
education in order to improve job creation in Ohio and Lake County.
(2) Education is another important key to making Ohio more business friendly. Employers want to operate
and hire in an area with a trained work force. This is why I am working with organizations such as the
Alliance for Working Together (AWT), Lake Port Authority, Lake Education Services Center and
Lakeland Community College to teach Lake middle school students programming skills. The AWT is a
consortium of over 60 local advanced manufacturing companies in need of skilled workers to program
and operate advanced computerized systems. This program will be a pilot project for the state. I believe
it will result in Lake County retaining more of our young people and significantly assist in the growth
of high paying manufacturing jobs throughout our area.
(3) Overly restrictive business regulations are a big impediment to job creation. Although the General
Assembly has done much to reduce the implementation of unnecessary and burdensome regulations
more needs to be done, particularly when it comes to needless and harmful existing regulations. A
review process is in place, but it needs to be strengthened. I believe regulations need to be thoroughly
reviewed by applicable state committees made up of legislators. Significant input from the business
committee and others needs to be reviewed and harmful regulations need to be rejected or amended.
Too many Ohioans are out of work today because their companies couldnt compete due to harmful
regulations.

Whether for past accomplishments or future goals, why should voters elect you?

I believe my experience and record of accomplishments speak for themselves:
Chairman of House Commerce & Labor Committee
Passed a 10% income tax cut by supporting the framework in a previous bill putting more of your
money back in your pocket where it belongs.
Passed a major small business tax reduction to provide the resources for them to expand and create
jobs. The bill allows most small businesses to deduct 75% of profits up to $250,000.
Repealed Ohios Estate (Death) tax.
Strengthened property owners rights by limiting governments eminent domain powers.
Voted against boated budgets to maintain fiscal discipline.
I have worked closely with local companies such as Steris, Metal Seal, JE Piston, Cleveland
Construction and others throughout Lake County introducing them to State Government resources to
help them create and or retain jobs.
Through state grants and tax incentives I have helped the following organizations / projects:
Lakeland Community College, Mentor Shoreline Erosion & March Improvements, Perry Industrial
Park & Shoreline Erosion Projects, Willoughby Fine Arts Association, Mentor Police Dispatch & Lake
Emergency Backup Center, Highway Infrastructure Grants throughout the county. Hannahs Home
Crisis Pregnancy Center, Grand River Shipping Lane Dredging, Historic Leroy Town
