YOUR VISION OF YOU

The power of mind is astounding. It influences so many aspects of our lives, it is difficult to comprehend. Yet, only a
moments reflection is necessary to convince you that we all have thoughts and beliefs that limit our lives. If you believe that
you cannot do something, your mind conspires to fulfill that belief. You do not even try. You simply let life happen.
Many self-help experts and life coaches challenge us to dispel negative beliefs about self. They insist that the power of mind
can be used to create a new belief set. Through self-discovery and incorporating affirming thoughts, new realities can be
created. Your vision of you can be altered. Ultimately, positive changes can be manifested and otherwise unattainable goals
can be reached.
The power of mind can be exploited to create personal growth and change. You must create a grand vision of yourself in a
single, particular aspect of life. You must IMAGINE, in detail, what you want to become. Then you have to figure out the
things that you need to do to become what you have imagined. Set no limits on self, believe in the possibilities inherent in
your grand vision, and positive behaviors will follow
The brain is a marvelous organ. It literally makes us who we are. Through its fundamental memory processes, the brain
maintains the information that we need in order to know who we are.
Intellectual stimulation helps to preserve the biological structure of the brain and its basic mental processes. Many people
recommend special programs of training to improve memory and enhance the power of mind. Challenging yourself and
learning new things seem to help. But, we should also note that overall lifestyle is likely to have a profound effect on memory
and cognition.
Several years ago a study of aged Catholic nuns was conducted. That study found that many of the nuns showed no clinical
signs of Alzheimers disease while they were living. It appears that the nuns lifestyle helped preserve their intellectual
functioning So, if you want to develop (or preserve) your thinking skills, take a lesson from the nuns. Yes, continue studying
and learning, just as the nuns had done. But, pay attention to other aspects of your life.
The human brain developed in a social context. Much of its processing is devoted to social forms of cognition. Social ties
and interactions with others were important to the nuns. You should maintain your social connections, as well. And take
some time to meditate. Meditation helps reduce stress. Stress has a negative impact on the body and interferes with memory
and optimal mental processes. Watch your diet and keep physically active.
POSITIVE THINKING
To move in the direction of positive thinking you must identify and eliminate the constant barrage of negative thoughts.
According to the health experts, there are a variety of ways to change negative thinking into positive thinking. They suggest
that you practice positive self-talk, surround yourself with positive people (avoid negative, toxic people), embrace humor,
and practice a healthy life style.
You can see that the foundations of positive thinking are really simple. There is no magic here. Still, it can require
conscious efforts to develop positive thinking. Like most behaviors, positive thinking requires practice until it becomes
automatic and unconscious. But, it is worth the effort.
