TASK TEN

Before you start your coursework spend some time reflecting on your final product.
Reflecting on Images:
What do the clothing codes tell you?
The person on the main image is wearing his own clothes. This shows the audience that you
can be yourself at college and wear what you want. It also reflects that the college is very
different to school in that you can wear your own clothes and that you have more freedom
to be yourself.
What are their facial expressions? Why?
He is smiling to show that he is happy although being at college; this suggests that you can
have fun whilst working if you try hard.
What is their posture? Why?
He is standing tall and happy to show that college is a fun place to be. The target audience
will recognise this and want to buy the magazine as they can relate to him as he is a student
and the target audience is students at the college.
What roles and stereotypes are being represented..or challenged? Does the image
conform with or challenge conventional ideas of male/female..young/oldetc?
My magazine shows both male and female college students so it is aimed at both genders
who are young and at college. They are all in role as students and this is shown by props and
by what they are wearing as well as setting.
Is the representation of race significant in your image?
My magazine does not show any different religions, for my music magazine I will take this
into consideration.
Who is being addressed (Audience)?
The target audience (students) is being addressed because in my cover lines and main image
I used direct address. (eye contact/ the use of your) The reader will feel they are directly
being spoken to.
Who is the magazine aimed at? How do we know?
The magazine is aimed at male and female students of the age 16-19. This is because the
college accepts these people and the genre of magazine is college. Therefore all cover lines,
images and the masthead are all relatable for students at college.
What have you done to attract the target audience?
I have included students and appealing cover lines that will attract them. For example any
one interested in jobs at college will want to read more because the cover shows that there
are job offers available inside the issue. I have also followed the typical codes and
conventions that students will recognise.
How have you made use of both text and image to address that intended audience?
The images I have used contain students so this is appropriate for the genre of the magazine.
The text is bold and colourful so it stands out and appeals to the niche audience.
