Topic: Beauty

Type: Mixed documentary- interviews, archive, voiceover, cutaways

Style: Informal as this is the most appropriate for the topic of our documentary and the
target audience.

Channel and Scheduling: Channel 4, 8pm. We chose 8pm as this is just before watershed
as our programme is not as explicit enough to be shown later and the majority of our
target audience will be watching TV at this time. We chose Channel 4 because this is
often the preferred channel for our target audience and similar informal documentaries
are common on this channel.

Target Audience: Male and female, aged 15 +. We have chosen this target audience as
the content will include topics which target both male and female perspectives. The age
15 plus was chosen as this is the age that people start understanding and taking an
interest in beauty.

male customers)

Archive footage (people getting treatments and extreme treatments, people
having their hair done, images of extreme and natural looks)

Narrative Structure:
Our documentary will be open as there is no conclusion/ point to be made, it is an overall
look upon the beauty industry and therefore is open to the audiences interpretation
regarding how they feel about it. It will be non linear as there is no chronological order to it
and also be single stranded as it covers just the one aspect of beauty.

Outline Content:
Beginning:
Voxpops and narration to introduce the topic and to explain what the
documentary is about over the voxpops. This will provide an overview.

Archive footage of people getting treatments and how they look after

Middle/ Exposition:
Interviews with beauticians, hairdressers etc.
Footage of the beauty treatments
Overlook of a typical Beauty salon and what it offers, e.g. spray tans, nails and

or teeth whitening ect
