PHILOSOPHY

Each individual is unique and has own personality and abilities. With that,
theyre able to construct knowledge out of it. Therefore, I prefer existentialism
and constructivism as my philosophy in education. Dont make things hard for
the students, especially in Mathematics; instead, let the students express their
answers and ideas in their own way and in their own intelligence. As an
existentialist and constructivist, Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner will be
my basis in teaching. As for me, demand not only the education of the mind but
also the education of the whole person. Unleash the students creativity. Let them

HISTORY
The residents of San Carlos witnessed the birth of a new educational
institution, Don Jose M. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School in 1998.it was
through the concerted efforts of groups of parents, PTCA officers of different
elementary schools, and the assistance of local government and DepEd officials
who envisioned a high school accessible to hundreds of students in the area.
Don Jose M. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School is located on
Luisa St., San Carlos, Binangonan, Rizal. It has a land area of 3, 932.21 sq.
meters and is more than 3 kilometers from Binangonan proper.
As a satellite (annex) school of Vicente Madrigal National High School,
DJYMNHS opened its door on J une 1, 1998. It started with 170 students housed
in 10 classrooms with 4 teachers under the Special Education Fund (SEF) of the
Province of Rizal. The school was entrusted to Mrs. Adelaida F. Razalan who
was the Head Teacher III.
In its second year, student population increased to 467 and because of
this, DJYMNHS was allowed to stand as an independent high school. From one-

building school, it was transformed to a bigger school through the initiative of its
principal, Mr. Virgilio P. Ramos, together with his 18 competent faculty. Since
then, the school population has increased, reaching the high of 2, 755 and the
faculty, from 18 to 44. Together, they worked for the realization and fulfillment of
the schools vision and mission. That is, for the youth to become well-disciplined
individuals.
Dr. Aillen E. Vocal joined the DJYMNHS family in 2004. Through her
pools of resources, financial, material, and human, she further improved the
school setting, coming up with a laboratory more conducive to learning. During
her stay, Ynares IV and SPED room were constructed and completed to cater
the growing needs of its students. Its not only the number of teachers that kept
on increasing but that of enrollees from the community and the nearby barangay
as well.
When Dr. Vocal left the school for another task to perform in the Division
office as Science Coordinator, Dr. Maribeth R. De Dios took office. DJYMNHS
sailed smoothly with 65 teachers and Dr. De Dios as its helm. Since her
installation on August 1, 2007, she thought of and worked on developing school
facilities and inspiring teachers and students as well. During her time, the Ynares
V and the IA/AA buildings were built to provide the needs of the schools growing
population.
After Dr. De Dios administration, Dr. Maria A. Barrameda became the
operating principal of DJYMNHS. She started her administration on August 1,
2010. During her time, the school has 5 buildings, 70 teaching personnel and

non-teaching personnel that cater to the needs of more than 2, 000 students,
several school facilities such as Science laboratory, IA/AA Building, Computer
laboratory, Guidance office and School clinic, SPED Multimedia Center, School
library and school canteen made more functional while the Principals,
Registrars, EMIS, Supply, and Accounting offices were renovated and
redesigned accordingly to provide better services to students and teachers alike.
Varied and relevant curricular and co-curricular activities were also offered in
order to improve the students level of performance in all learning areas.
At present, Dr. Maribeth R. De Dios is the operating principal of
DJYMNHS. The DJYMNHS curriculum is continuously refined and the faculty
and staff are constantly given seminars, trainings, and workshops to equip them
with better tools to address the educational needs of the students who are
evolving into modern citizens of a global community. Progress brings about
change and change brings forth numerous challenges and these challenges
bring DJYMNHS to the frontline where an adage works. Working together
works!

NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES
First day of my student teaching in Don Jose M. Ynares Sr. Memorial
National High School, the most crucial stage in student teaching. Despite of the
nervousness I felt, I still managed to be excited. In fact, I came there 15 minutes
before the said time of Prof. Lily. Unfortunately, the Principal and the Chairperson
of the Mathematics Department were not present but the endorsement was still
done. I was assigned in the Grade 9 but if I were to choose, I will choose to teach
Grade 8 students. The first problem that I met was the discouragement that we
received from a teacher there. I felt that we were not welcome; in fact, she told us
to quit. What a discouragement! But I faced that problem with determination and I
learned that dont be discouraged; instead, fight for your dreams!
Second day, another crucial stage, assigning of cooperating teachers.
Mrs. Charito DG. Dela Cruz was my assigned cooperating teacher. The first
section that I met was the section 2 and my first impression with them was
cooperative class. In fact, they were the one who insisted for me to introduce
myself. Oh well, it was a successful introduction! The second section that I
encountered was the Bright section and my first impression with them was
responsible class. This class was hospitable; one of them gave me a power hug,
he was RJ, a special child student mainstreamed in this section but I may say
that he is genius. The third section was the section 5, weird one. This section
proved to me that not all students at the back are not listening because there was

one student at the back who always raise his hands to answer and recite. The
fourth section that I encountered was section 1 and my impression with them was
intelligent class. There was also a special child student mainstreamed in this
class and he was Ian. After that, Maam Charito oriented me and I was glad with
that because that shows she really is a cooperative teacher. She was teaching
for many years but this was her first year to be a K-12 teacher; so, she wanted us
to help each other. As for my first observations with her, she is a time conscious
person which is my personality too. With regards to my cooperating teacher, I
learned that you should be humble; if you cant do it, ask help from other people;
you dont need to be boastful.
Oh! Its already 2

week in my student teaching! This week was
adventurous. Its my first time to make a lesson plan; take note: the topic was
unfamiliar to me, Sum and Product of Roots of a Quadratic Equation. So, I was
really forced to study this lesson. Supposedly, I was not about to teach on
Monday but surprisingly, Maam Charito told me to teach in section 5. I was really
shocked and nervous; so, hurriedly, I looked at my lesson plan. But I was
blessed to have my cooperating teacher because shes very supportive, she kept
on encouraging me despite of the nervousness I felt. In fact, she lend me her
lapel and successfully, I made it! Therefore, for the second time, Maam Charito
told me to teach in section 9. But this time, I was more confident to teach
because of 2 reasons: (1) I already experienced to teach and (2) I already knew
my lesson. As Ive said before, my cooperating teacher is supportive; so, she
was there at the classroom while I was teaching. So, what happened while I was

I section 5? They were all active and listening. And Im comfortable to be with
them even my cooperating teacher is not present. What about in section 9?
They were all active yet scared to do board work. What I have learned this week?
Approach your students with authority yet with care and be happy with what you
are doing.
Third week of stay in Don Jose! With my classes, I encouraged everyone
to recite but some of the active students, see that offensive. Maybe because they
think that I was ignoring them but no, I just want everybody to give their opinions.
With regards to my cooperating teacher, I was shocked of what I knew about her,
shes a Civil Engineering graduate. And I was glad to know that Maam Charito
appreciates my efforts and preparations. Oh! I had a new discovery this week,
teachers practice to do correct response after having examination for the
purpose of getting the mean profile of the students. I have learned this week that
you must not hesitate to know new things, even your students, know them more.
Fourth week went normal, no problems. Its already fifth week. I didnt
teach the whole week. I just observed that the Bright section were just ordinary
students when it comes to Math. So, my expectations with them got lower. But
Im happy to see the students improving. But I had my second problem, the
noisiness of the students; even the higher sections are noisy. I tried to overcome
that by using the reverse psychology; I kept quiet when they were noisy and it
seems effective. Learning this week? Dont expect too much or too less with your
students. Put yourself in their feet. Remember that you were once a student.

First week of September, I was the one who taught the five sections; so,
it was a busy week. But its a great benefit for me because I was more enhanced
to teach. This was the first time that my cooperating teacher observed me
formally. Here is a proof that she really observed me:

The next days were just discussion and I was very strict in time
management. My discussion with the higher sections was faster than the lower
sections. This was my first time to make my own assessment, not too hard but
not too easy. I was so glad that my students learn so much from me because
when I assessed them, many from them got a perfect score and only few
students who got low score. But sad to say, I was pissed off with the section 5.
Imagine, youre in front of the classroom but its as if they dont see you because
someone threw a handkerchief to the other student on the other side of the
classroom. I just walked out; instead of hurting or saying bad words to them.
This week, I just learned the essence of time management. Also, I learned to be
patient with my students; dont ever hurt or say bad words to them.
Oh! Local Demo! It was loss! I wasnt nervous but its as if I was a robot. I
was just doing my local demo because of the script. Starting from the review, it
was wrong. When one group got wrong to the activity, I didnt know how to
approach it; so, I just continued the lesson. I was mentally blocked when I was at
the analysis. I forgot something to discuss on the analysis. I was time pressured;
I forgot to use my rubrics on the application. Thats why assessment wasnt done.
What is good? The quality of my voice and the strategy that I did with the
attendance. What is bad? Inactive participation. Thats why I already prepared
myself for the post conference. They told me that it wasnt me who was wrong
but the lesson, it was very wide lesson. But this local demo brought a great

benefit to me because I learned to accept negative criticisms as a room for
improvement and not as a discouragement.
Judgment Day! Final Demo! Very Successful! I wasnt nervous and I
didnt memorize script. Come what may but Im pretty sure that I know my topic.
Starting from the priming, it was good. The activity was fine. The discussion was
very active; in fact, they experienced to manipulate the Geogebra Software. Even
the mainstreamed student participated. The application was very well, they did
role play. But this was the most overwhelming part, 50 % of the class got perfect
score and no one got a very low grade, they all passed! My ST Supervisor told
me that it was very successful; so, I was very glad. She told me that it was very
creative, especially when I used the Geogebra software. Because when we say
ICT, its not just a PowerPoint but also other software related to the topic. But the
comment that I really like was She really wants to learn, she accepts what we
suggest and she manages to insert ICT to her lesson even she doesnt have her
own laptop, stated by the Mathematics Chairperson. I know that I cant really
make it without GOD, my mom, my cooperating teacher and my friends. Thanks
to them.
The week after my final demo was rest week. I came back to the class on
the last week of September. I was excited to teach again but at the same time,
nervous. I used strategies this time, extrinsic motivation and negative
reinforcements. I treated snacks to students who answered my questions
correctly. For my students to write lectures, they must have my signature on their
lecture because without it, theyll be marked as absent on my class. I think that

those strategies were very effective because they actively participate with the
discussion and they did lectures. But sad to say, again, I was pissed off with the
section 5; so, I violated one of the principles of assessment: do not use
assessments as punishment. I gave quiz to them because only one student who
did their assignment. So, this week, I proved that motivations and reinforcements
help a lot to boost students interest. As a lesson, do not use assessments as
punishment.

card. After doing the task, the group will give their yell. One

coordinate plane. 5 minutes is allotted in doing the task.
