Introduction

This Pilot Handbook outlines the policy relative to the airline operations of Cathay Pacific Virtual.

1.1 WELCOME

Cathay Pacific Virtual first began its operations in June 2012.

Due to a conflict of interests, a decision was made to shutdown virtual airline operations. Zach,
Callum and Max since maintained contact to further collate ideas before making a decision in late
2012 to restart Cathay Pacific Virtual, BIGGER AND BETTER.

Many hours have gone into creating our schedule network, along with our website, which has been
coded by our Director (Zach). With an updated website and various platforms of software available
for use, we strive to provide the best possible experience to all of our pilots during their career.

1.2 Mission Statement

Here at Cathay Pacific Virtual we strive to provide our pilots with the most realistic experience
possible.

We achieve this by simulating the real world Cathay Pacific operations. We have an up-to-date
schedule system containing over 500 flights all around the world to give pilots the opportunity to fly
around the world.

We also provide our pilots with a community forum and TeamSpeak 3 server to congregate, and
meet new people. Another concept of the airline we simulate is our Pilot Academy which our pilots
can get pilot ratings to fly aircraft as well as expand on their knowledge about advanced systems and
more.

3.2 PIREP Submission

Cathay Pacific Virtual has two options available for pilots to use to track their flights. Please keep in
mind that the submission of manual PIREPs is not available and will not be accepted under any
circumstances.

3.2.1 CX Tracker

The primary option to submit your Pilot Report (PIREP) is to use our own custom ACARS system. The

4 Cathay Pacific Virtual Operations

4.1 Rank Structure

As you gain hours of flying experience and progress with your career at Cathay Pacific Virtual. You
will be able to climb through the pilot rank structure on your way to the highest rank of Senior
Captain. Pilots with prior experience (i.e. previous virtual airline) can be granted a total of 100 hours
to be transferred to their application. Management may choose to decline transfer hours if the
member does not possess enough knowledge required by the requested rank.

Upon registration at Cathay Pacific Virtual, You will be asked what Aircraft Type you would like to fly.
You can either choose an Airbus or Boeing which depending on what you choose will give you the
ability to initially fly the A320 & A330 or Boeing 737 & Boeing 777 respectively.

To fly other aircraft in our fleet, You need to get a type rating endorsement available from the Pilot
Academy. The academy is located at http://academy.cathaypacificvirtual.com . You will be required
to register for an account which is activated automatically. Once you have completed any type rating
examination and have passed, Email the training department at training@cathaypacificvirtual.com
with your Pilot ID and Information so that the rating can be processed.

Transfer hours can be given up to 100 hours. If a pilot has experience on a particular aircraft type
at the previous VA, He will not be required to participate in our type rating program at the
Academy.

The rank structure is shown below:

4.2 Fleet

Cathay Pacific Virtual schedules simulate the use of aircraft by the real world Cathay, offering a
range of both Airbus and Boeing type aircraft for pilots to choose from. In order to be deemed
qualified to fly each aircraft type, once again; pilots are required to complete an Aircraft Type Rating
course, consisting of a combination of theoretical or practical assessments.

Pilots must fly using the correct Aircraft. Pilot can only fly with a different aircraft when flying the
Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 777-300/ER type aircraft. All other aircraft must be flown as shown in
the briefing.

4.3 Schedules

Cathay Pacific Virtual provides over 500 flights around the world to our pilots. To simulate real-world
operations, pilots must fly from their last destination.
To view the schedules, click Search and Book Flights, located in Dispatch Area of your Pilot profile.
From here you can sort the flights from aircraft type, departure and arrival airfield as shown below.
You can also change your current location and jumpseat to another airport. To Jumpseat to another
airport, it is free of charge and is covered by the company.
4.4 Hubs

Cathay Pacific Virtual has 1 hub for our pilots. This hub is Hong Kong international airport, and all
operations are based out of this location. Once again, your hub manager is Ben Wu and your Deputy
Hub Manager is Charles Laukka.

4.5 Cathay Community

CX Community is the community forum for Cathay Pacific Virtual, offering a social area for all pilots
to interact, read and post their views and opinions on topics of discussion. All members should
follow the policy for our Community Forum.

We are currently phasing out the use of Social Media and encouraging the use of the Forum for all
support and general requests.

CPAv_PILOT_SOP Page 18 of 21 2014 Cathay Pacific Virtual

The Community is easy to use and we would encourage all members to register for the community
when they register for Cathay Pacific Virtual. To register, Ensure you use the username format which
is your full name (John Smith). You should register with the same email you used to sign up for our

5 Cathay Pacific Virtual Operating Procedures
5.1 Standard Operating Procedures

Cathay Pacific Virtual encourages pilots to ensure compliance to standard operating procedures
(SOPs), which have been formed to ensure the most efficient, realistic yet enjoyable experience for
all of its pilots.
5.1.1 Time Setting

When viewing a schedule and its departure and arrival time, it is important to note that these times
are set in local time. There is no requirement for pilots to depart or arrive at the times specified on
the schedule, however it just adds to the realism if your total flight duration matches the duration
that is stated on the flights schedule.
5.1.2 Cost Index

A cost index is entered into an aircrafts Flight Management Computer (FMC) or (MCDU) to give a
balance between speed and fuel efficiency. Generally a cost index varies for each flight and can be
adjusted to suit whether the pilot wants to fly the aircraft at a higher cruise speed than normal or
use the most cost economical profile possible.
Cathay Pacific Virtual now specifies a cost index for your flights. These are available to you in your
briefing.
5.1.3 Flight Documents

Chart, Weather and High Wind charts and more information specifically for your flight can be viewed
via the links in the flight briefing.
5.1.4 Alternate Airports

In real world operations, listing an alternate airport is a requirement as stipulated by Civil Aviation
Regulations for all flights operated under IFR. This requirements differs from country to country,
however for the purpose of adhering to these requirements, filing an alternate airport is only
mandatory when flying on the VATSIM network with Cathay Pacific Virtual.
Cathay Pacific Virtual briefing packages will give you 1 alternate airport for your flight. Use other
planner such as Simbrief / PFPX to find other alternates.

CPAv_PILOT_SOP Page 19 of 21 2014 Cathay Pacific Virtual

5.1.5 Briefings

Pilots should take note of the new style of flight briefing. We believe this style of briefing to be closer
to real world standards. Please use the OFP to help complete your flight at a higher quality. The fuel
planning is accurate, however should be crossed reference with another planner such as
Simbrief/fuelplanner.com / PFPX. Pilots are responsible for the correct loading of fuel on all Cathay
Pacific Virtual flights.

Be sure to use the charts provided, and use the upper winds aloft to assist in selecting appropriate
altitudes.

5.2 PIREP Guidelines

While flying online the VATSIM Network or with CX Tracker, please be aware that all flights are
tracked and monitored by Cathay Pacific Virtual. Once you complete a flight, it will undergo an
approval process, which is then reviewed by a member of Cathay Pacific Virtual Management before
your PIREP can be successfully approved.

5.2.1 Simulator Settings

It is important to never slew or use time acceleration for your flight. Therefore, please make sure
that youre able to fully complete the flight without using the aid of any of these features. Doing so
is deemed as un-realistic and will result in your PIREP being rejected by Cathay Pacific Virtual
Management. We allow pausing of the flight simulator however; this must be within a realistic
period as deemed by the Staff Member moderating the PIREP. Its recommended not to pause your
flight simulator for more than 2 Hours.

5.2.2 Over speeds

Over speed is the aircraft flight condition when the airspeed at which the aircraft is travelling at
exceeds a safe limitation. This is hazardous as it may damage the aircraft control surfaces or airframe
integrity.

The use of third-party weather programs and systems (i.e. REX, Active Sky, etc.) can cause the
aircraft to enter an un-warranted over speed state due to the way that each client updates the
weather on the simulator. For this reason, Cathay Pacific will only permit over speeds to occur if they
are due to weather updates. As such, It is deemed that any single record of overspeed lasting more
than 5 minutes in duration will result in the PIREP being rejected. The PIREP will also be rejected if
the total time in overspeed accumulates to 20 Minutes.

CPAv_PILOT_SOP Page 20 of 21 2014 Cathay Pacific Virtual

Cathay Pacific Virtual Management may however choose to reject a PIREP if there is reasonable
suspicion that the pilot did in fact place the aircraft into an over speed state.

5.2.3 Aircraft Configuration

Pilots are required to ensure that they takeoff, arrive and fly the correct aircraft and airline livery
for the flight. In addition to this, the flight must be complete and their landing rate must not exceed
over -600 fpm (feet per minute). There is a lead way of 50 fpm, however this would be due to
abnormal conditions such as weather. Please keep your PIREPS/Flight Reports underneath -600fpm
(feet per minute).

PIREPs will not be accepted if pilots do not adhere to the above requirements.
5.2.3.1 Aircraft Substitution

Cathay Pacific Virtual allows the substitution of the following aircraft/liveries to take place. Please
note that this is subject to change and can be updated within the Pilot handbook without direct
communication to pilots.

Scheduled Aircraft/Livery Substitution Allowed
Airbus A330-300 Cathay/DragonAir Airbus A330-300 Cathay Or Dragonair
Airbus A340-300 Airbus A340-600
Boeing 777-200 Boeing 777-300
Boeing 777-300 Boeing 777-200
Boeing 747-400F Boeing 747-400
Boeing 747-800F Boeing 747-400/F

5.2.4 Remarks

Please ensure that all flights flown on IVAO or VATSIM contain AT MINIMUM the remark:
OPR/CATHAYPACIFICVIRTUAL.COM .
