Time Management

How effective was time management during the production of your media product?

During the making of our short film, we didnt actually realise how important time management was
until reaching the stages of editing our final product. This is because, when editing, there are a lot of
mistakes that occur which requires re-filming. For example, during a filming session, it is essential that
all participants of the production know how to use their time wisely. This is because, during filming,
time management is a very important factor to take in to consideration. As well as this, when filming,
natural lighting also differs after a while. Therefore, it was important that we organised our filming
sessions with our actors in advance and filmed at specific times in order to deliver the most effective
footage as possible. In addition, editing also requires a lot of time, therefore editing sessions had
been created in advance to ensure that all sessions were used effectively in case needing to re edit
any footage. As well as this, editing also involves a lot of adjustments such as lighting, colour
correction, sound etc. Therefore, having good time management and organisation, made the process
of editing a lot more easier.

When referring to paper work, we had all produced personal blogs at the beginning of our session
which allowed us to save our work whenever completing a post. This made things simpler for our
group to keep track of each post, allowing us to differentiate completed work from the incomplete. As
well as this, the camera women produced a production schedule which stated what date our work had
to be completed by. This was another effective way of maintaining our time management as it meant
that we could track our process as well as making sure we wouldnt fall behind. From an editors
perspective, having a production schedule helped me balance my workload with editing as they are
both large sums of tasks. We decided to film during early October which provided me as an editor,
time to look through the footage and work in order to see what changes would need to be altered. As
well as this, it allowed us to complete majority of our paper work in advanced, preventing any clashes
with filming sessions due to being behind on work.

Although our time management has been effective throughout the making of our media product, we
could have improved in some areas. For example, arranging extra sessions outside of school to work
as a group to complete paper work could have maybe made a better impact on our group as we
could have had less work to complete during editing sessions. However, overall, we have had good
time management and will maintain this as a group.
