Article I: Name and Purpose

The Odyssey of the Mind is an international education program that provides


creative problem solving opportunities for students of all ages in local, state, and
international levels. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems
ranging from building mechanical devices and structures to presenting an original
interpretation on literary classics to planning and acting out performance skits.
The use of creativity promotes thinking outside of the box and will help students
develop problem solving skills that will assist them outside of the school
environment in the real world. Most importantly, students will build cooperation
skills that will enable them to work with their teammates and enjoy their learning
experience.

Article II: Eligibility
The club welcomes anyone who is passionate about learning and wants to have a
great time nurturing their problem solving skills. Team based entrance exams will
be held at the beginning of each semester to determine the candidates problem
solving skills and their ability to work as a team.

Article III: Election of Officers
The Board will consist of 6 officers: a President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, Publicity Officer, and Events Coordinator. Board officers will be elected
through an impartial application process at the beginning of each school year. All
officers in good standing shall be eligible for reelection. Appointed officers are
required to attend all club meetings and events.

Article IV: Responsibilities
President:
Organize and preside over club meetings and activities
Make announcements on upcoming events
Represent the club as a whole and help popularize the club
Form partnerships with local coaches and programs
Be a cooperative, committed, and respectful leader to set an example for
others to follow
Make sure the club accomplishes all its goals

Maintain constant communication with the advisor, board members, and
club members and ensure each officer is living up to their expectations
Encourage any ideas about the improvement of the club from its members
Vice President:
Assist the President with managing club affairs
Help resolve conflicts that arise during club meetings and events to
maintain a peaceful learning environment
Assist the Events Coordinator in planning for the competition
Make sure all board members are working cooperatively and positively
Provide necessary aid to any board member who requires it
Secretary:
Keep track of meeting minutes and participants
Send out weekly emails and reminders for upcoming meetings and events
Maintain community service logs for club members
Assist the Events Coordinator in preparing any necessary paperwork for
events and competitions
Manage calendar of events and schedule any events with the advisor
Report to the President and other board members to confirm any events
and eliminate any confusion
Treasurer:
Maintain club funds and monetary balance
Maintain the clubs fiscal budget
Organize and collect competition fees
Assist in any fundraising events
Report to President and advisor before and after altering the monetary
balance
Keep the clubs money safe
Publicity Officer:
Spread awareness of the club and encourage prospective members to sign
up
Promote competition participation
Work with other board members to set up events
Assist the President in forming partnerships with programs outside of
school
Events Coordinator:
Organize competition specifics, such as volunteers, transportation, etc.


Assist the Publicity Officer in promoting event participation
Help the President and Publicity Officer in attracting possible sponsors and
assistance from outside associations and programs
Report to the President and advisor about competition details

Article V: Removal of Officers
An officer will be removed if he or she violates the rules stated in the constitution
in any manner. Officers can also be removed if they endanger or threaten another
club member or student. A new officer will be selected immediately through
unbiased applications.

Article VI: Philosophy of Fundraising
As an academic club, Odyssey of the Mind will host special workshops on
non-academic subjects, such as structural design, technical performance, etc., to
help promote interest for the club. Each participant will be charged a small
entrance fee (i.e. $5) to help pay for the guest speaker or coach. Also, club
members can host instrumental concerts at parks and senior centers with food
spectators can purchase. All profits will be used to pay for competition
membership fees and for the overall benefit of the club. In addition, the club can
host food and drink sales (i.e. boba milk tea) to fundraise for needed materials
and fees.

Article VII: Liability
Before any events, the club will pass out a liability waiver to its members to ensure
their safety at all times. Students who do not get their waiver approved by a parent
or guardian will not be permitted to participate in the event.

Article VIII:Amendments
All amendments must be approved by at least a ! majority vote and consent from
the cabinet to pass into the constitution. Any member may propose an
amendment to the constitution, and if the suggestion is reasonable and within the
clubs power to enact, it will be considered for a place in the document.

Article IX: Service Projects

Odyssey of the Mind will offer free tutoring sessions for students of all grades and
ages in need of academic assistance once a month. Voluntary club members will

be selected as tutors and assigned to a target group of students based on their
academic capability. In addition, students studying a particular subject can
prepare and deliver a lecture to club members in order for the speaker to become
more familiarized with the subject and the audience to learn more interesting
information. In return, the club will award community service hours to the student
volunteers and presenters.

Article X: Club Integration
Odyssey of the Mind is designed to foster friendships and bonds between
passionate logic engagers through the use of teamwork in projects and puzzles
and rewarding all club members hard work through victory at the competition. In
addition, to help publicize, the club will create posters and flyers to inform any
interested students of upcoming events and competitions. All students will be
given a chance to compete and earn bragging rights after a win, and no student
will be discriminated for any reasons. As a club, we will aim to bring together the
entire academic population of Northwood High School, armed with nothing but
creative logic puzzles and incredible opportunities.
