The roots of Lankhorst reach back over 250
years. Established in 1751 as a ropery and
sailmakers loft in Sneek in The Netherlands,
the company became known as Lankhorst
after Nikolaas Jurgen Lankhorst took over the
company from his in-laws in 1803. During the
19th and 20th centuries, Lankhorst grew from
a local artisan business into a world-wide
supplier of rope and ships mooring lines. These
activities still form our core business -
Lankhorst Ropes is the largest company within
the Lankhorst group, and a world leading rope
manufacturer.
After several years of working within a
strategic alliance with the Portuguese rope
and netting producer, Grupo Euronete SGPSA,
Lankhorst and Grupo Euronete merged into
the Lankhorst Euronete Group. This group
holds a leading position in many international
markets. In addition to maritime and offshore
ropes Lankhorst is now the largest producer of
sh netting in the world, and one of Europes
market leaders in plastics recycling. Through
innovation and product development, we have
also built strong market positions in industrial
yarns, pure composites products, and the
yachting and agriculture markets.
In July 2012 the Royal Lankhorst Euronete
Group was acquired by WireCo WorldGroup
Inc., a global leader in producing and
marketing of wire rope, electromechanical
cable and a major producer of wire products,
headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
The immediate benet to customers is Lank-
horsts ability to serve as a one-stop shop for
all its maritime customers synthetic and steel
wire requirements, and enhanced capability in
crane ropes. In addition, Lankhorst Ropes glo-
bal stock point network now feature increased
stocks of wire ropes.

Lankhorst Ropes Maritime Division offers a completely integrated source
of synthetic rope and steel wire supply for global maritime operators. As
a member of the WireCo WorldGroup, the worlds leading manufacturer
of steel wire ropes, it is able to supply wire ropes directly from WireCo
factories in Germany, US, Mexico, Portugal, and Poland.
In addition to a signicant expansion in the range of Lanko-branded, non-
rotating, high performance steel wire ropes, Lankhorst is now able to offer
customers steel wire from Casar. These include: Powerplast Hoist rope for
deck cranes where rotation resistant ropes are required in combination
with long service life. And Turboplast, a boom hoist rope for deck cranes. In
addition, the steel wire ropes end terminations can be customised to meet
the engineering demands of specic maritime applications.
Total Quality Control
We have always supplied both synthetic and steel wire ropes for mooring
and towing, noted Steven Wardenier, commercial director, Lankhorst
Ropes. However, until now, our manufacturing and innovation have been
largely focused on synthetic ropes, reecting our heritage. Now we have
direct access to a very large steel wire manufacturing resource and leading
wire rope brands, like Casar ropes.
INTEGRATED SYNTHETIC AND STEEL WIRE ROPES SUPPLY
www.lankhorstropes.com
Environmentally Friendly
In keeping with Lankhorst Ropes commitment to the environment, the company
is now developing a non-polluting grease for its steel wire ropes. Ports often
complain about lms of grease oating on the water from steel wire ropes. Were
developing grease for steel wire rope that is both environmentally friendly and
reduces internal abrasion. As soon as we complete our in-house trials, we will
introduce it across our steel wire rope range, said Steven Wardenier.
Today Lankhorst continues to lead through World Class research and
development into high performance materials and products. This enables us to
work with our customers in overcoming the many commercial and engineering
challenges they face in responding successfully to the demands of a competitive
global business environment.
The steel wire rope is being offered in its full assortment from the Rotterdam
stock point and in limited assortment from the stock points in Dubai,
Singapore and Brisbane.

Recycling scheme for retired maritime ropes
Recycling discarded ropes from Lankhorst Ropes has entered its eighth year. Lankhorst high
performance ropes that have exceeded their technical life time are being transferred into pick-nick
tables, garden furniture and many more products. This Lankhorst recycling program is gradually
growing in popularity and has already surpassed 120 metric tons material on a yearly basis.
The program introduced in 2004 was quickly picked up by a few ship owners. New build
vessels were supplied with these ropes at that time and over the past two years we have
noticed an increase in ropes being returned to Lankhorst for recycling.
This recycling program is an integral part of our sustainability policy. At the same time it
offers chain responsibility together with our partners for making a safer and better world.
Ropes supplied under the recycling program are being accompanied with a Lankhorst
factory certicate printed with our recycling logo. This logo warrants these ropes to be t for
recycling and must be returned with the rope to Lankhorst Ropes in Holland.
Those interested in the program are invited to contact us at recycling@lankhorstropes.com.
LANKOFORCE rope coating for improved abrasion resistance
Lankhorst Ropes has developed an innovative, abrasion resistant coating for its LANKOFORCE
(R-9) towing ropes, simultaneously improving abrasion resistance and making the ropes easier
to handle. This LANKOFORCE Challenger coating is an alternative to the protective jacket
normally used to safeguard the rope during handling. For more information on LANKOFORCE
Challenger coating please contact us at maritime@lankhorstropes.com.
Seatrade Innovation Award for Lankhorst Ropes
Tipto Winchline reduces mooring rope snap back threat
Leading maritime industry publication Seatrade has named
Lankhorst Ropes as the winner of the Innovation in Ship
Operations award at this years prestigious 25th Seatrade Awards
held in London recently. The award was for Tipto Winchline, which
reduces the threat to crew from mooring rope snap back. This is
the second time Lankhorst has received the Innovation Award,
and the rst time a company has won it in consecutive years.
A snapped mooring rope is, thankfully, a rare occurrence, but when it does happen the results can be devastating. Using its
expertise in yarn production and rope construction, Lankhorst Ropes has developed the Tipto Winchline to provide a safer
mooring rope.
Based on Lankhorsts Tipto yarn, the seven strand rope features a Tipto overbraided jacket to protect the rope from wear and
tear during handling. Importantly, the jacket fulls a vital safety function. If the rope breaks due to excessive load, the braided
cover acts as a net, capturing the two parted ends. The jacket absorbs the generated energy from the broken rope, and thus
reduces the effects of snap back.
Second Seatrade Innovation award
In 2012 it received the Seatrade Innovation in Ship Operations award for the A3 splice. With
the trend towards fewer crew, the A3 splice is lighter, stronger and smaller than traditional
splices, and marked a signicant improvement in the ease of rope handling during mooring
and towing.
We are delighted to have won our second Seatrade Innovation in Ship Operations award
in consecutive years, says Wilco Stroet, managing director, Lankhorst Ropes. Lankhorst is
committed to innovation in every aspect of rope performance. The inherent safety of the Tipto
Winchline is proving to be very popular, especially amongst cruise line operators where it
reduces the risk of snap back to crew and passengers alike.

TIPTOTWELVE, available in
the diameter range of 16 mm
till 48 mm, is the successor of
the well-known TIPTOEIGHT.
The construction is different,
the material remains
the same. The 12-strand
braided construction makes
the rope rounder, more
stable, more compact and
more regular on the surface.
This increases the abrasion
resistance and the life-time
of the rope even more.

TIPTOWINCHLINE
A dedicated floating
winchline developed
especially to be used on
(self tensioning) winches.
The load-bearing
7-strand core combines
high strength and
relative low elongation.
The non load-bearing
braided jacket provides
protection to the core
(longer life-time) and
increases crew-safety by
minimizing the risk of
snap-back. The smooth
operation of the vessel is
increased by the ease of
handling of the rope due
to its low weight and the
floating characteristic of
the rope.
TIPTOWINCHLINE does
not lose strength when
wet!

Mooring tail to provide
shock/energy absorbing
within the mooring
system. The EUROFLEX
Mooring Tails surpass
the nylon tails in quality,
the energy absorption is
better, the rope remains
elastic for a longer time
and the rope does not
lose a large portion of
its dry MBF when it is
wet. As the strength
is higher than that of
nylon, a smaller diameter
of rope can be used,
providing better handling.
Made of polyester and
polypropylene composite
yarns, the standard length
produced is 11m Effective
Working Length, with 2
protected eyes of 2,0m
and 1,0m respectively.
