Why the artists use the Slang?

Ive tried to answer this question, but it isnt an easy answer. To have an idea of
which could be a close response to the reality, I interviewed 3 experts in the
material.
The first one is Krista Rovira, a U.S.A native teacher. She was born in
Washington and has a Master's Degree in Education, B.A in Spanish. 3 years
teaching experience in a private high school in the US and 2 additional years
experience in Spain teaching English. She teach at Cantillepa Academy, in
Gelida.
Interview:
- How would you describe slang?
*Slang is a dialect of a language spoken on the street. It usually is very different
than Standard American English.
- Can you tell in which place of America had you been? There is an exclusive
type of slang there?
*I have been on the west coast, east coast and Midwest. Been in more than 20
states. Slang is different according to peoples groups. For example whites,
Hispanics, and African Americans all usually speak different varieties of slang.
- How you describe the slang in the USA? what can you tell me about it?
*Slang in the US is largely influenced by rappers such as Jay Z and other
artists. If you search in Youtube for Katt Williams, there are good examples of
African American slang. It usually involves many curse words.
- What do you think about the slang in the United Kingdom? I dont know about
slang in the UK.
- The world of music is full of slang; is this because of the new times? Or is a
thing that happens since the beginnings of the music?
*There has always been slang. Many Latin languages started off as slang
branching off from Latin.
- What do you think about why the artists use the slang? Is because they want
to sell albums arriving to the young people or its something that they use to
express themselves?
*It's something that people use to express themselves. It's part of their
language.

For having more opinions, I also interviewed a substitute teacher named Marc
Rodriguez, English teacher and Translator.

Interview:
-What can you tell me about the Slang?
*You can find the slang especially at Rap or Hip-Hop. Its easy to see in singers
like Eminem o 50 cent. Its a non standard language, which you can hear at the
streets. Are mostly sentences or words that you have to search if you arent a
native speaker.
-Its the British slang the same as the American slang?
* No it isnt. There are some words or expressions that can be the same in the
two nations. But in general are quite different one from another.
-Is the American slang rougher than the British?
* I dont think so. Maybe the British have a reputation of being more educated
and polite, but they also have a slang and black humour. They are tied in that
sense.
-What do you think about the slang in the music? Why they use it?
*I think they use it because they want to arrive to the people.
-Its also something commercial?
*Yes. Sometimes when you want to connect with the people you have to follow
the trend of the moment. Some of them use the slang to sell albums, but others
use it because theyre authentic.






Finally, to have one more opinion, I interviewed Marcos Hernndez, father of
my classmate Nria Hernndez and English teacher. (I kept the original
language in that he answered to the questions)
Interview:
-How would you describe slang?
*El slang se puede describir como el lenguaje adaptado al contexto. La
modificacin de la norma lingstica para que la comunicacin sea ms fluida
entre miembros de un determinado status social. Suele utilizarse la palabra
slang para referirnos sobre todo a la adaptacin que hacen del idioma ingls
las clases bajas, es decir, el idioma de la calle
-What do you think about the slang?
*Creo que el slang como cualquier tipo de dialecto hace ver que los idiomas
son algo vivo, que no son tan importantes las normas como el hecho de
comunicarse. La gente adapta las lenguas a sus realidades y eso hace crecer y
evolucionar los idiomas, y eso es bueno aunque signifique saltarse las normas.
-Do you think that the slang o non standard English that can be found in
different places its exclusive or there are things similar?
*Por un lado tenemos que cada grupo de hablantes adaptar la lengua de una
manera diferente, dependiendo de su realidad (no evolucionar igual el ingls
en un ghetto de nueva york que en un distrito de negocios de Hong Kong) pero
seguro que hay algunos detalles que podemos apreciar como comunes en
todos los casos. Nos podemos referir entre otras cosas a la economa del
lenguaje por ejemplo y las modificaciones que ello puede crear, sobre todo a
nivel de abreviaturas. De ah que encontremos paralelismos a la hora de
referirse a girl como gal o business como bizniz aprovechando una fontica
similar. Seguro que muchos otros ejemplos se podrn encontrar en diferentes
estratos sociales en diferentes lugares del mundo en los que se habla ingls.
-How would you describe the American slang? and the British? do you think
there is a difference? Its rougher the American?
*El slang americano difiere del ingls en cuanto a que las diferencias con el
ingls standard son ms bien fruto de una constante inmigracin. Gente de
todos los pases que ha llegado a los Estados Unidos en busca de su futuro y
que ha volcado su propia experiencia en la comunicacin con el resto, sus
maneras de hablar, sus maneras de hacer, sus maneras de comunicarse, parte
del vocabulario de los pases de los que provenan , etc ( podemos poder
como ejemplo la gran cantidad de palabras latinas en el vocabulario normal de
aquellos estados que lindan con Mxico, ya que all la interaccin con gente
hispano hablante es habitual).Por otro lado, el slang ingls parece estar ms
relacionado con las clases sociales. Es decir, la gente acomodada habla un
ingls acadmico mientras que las gentes de zonas industriales o rurales han
acomodado el idioma para satisfacer sus propias necesidades comunicativas.
-Have you been at the United Kingdom or the USA? Could you describe the
slang in there?
*He estado en diferentes pases y he de reconocer que incluso el ingls
standard difiere en cada lugar por los diferentes contextos, diferentes
vocabularios y las diferentes pronunciaciones. En cualquier caso, los ms
difciles de entender los escoceses por su manera de pronunciar, muy diferente
del resto
-What do you think about the slang in the music?
*La msica es una manera de expresin, y en definitiva el msico ha de pensar
en cmo hacer llegar su creacin a su pblico. Por tanto entiendo que un
rapero surgido de la calle necesitar hacer uso del slang para poder llegar a
su pblico y que entiendan lo que les quiere transmitir.
Por otro lado, puede que algn msico quiera hacer uso de ese tipo de dialecto
para convencer pero en realidad no se trata de eso sino de comunicar por lo
que su uso del slang probablemente ser inadecuado. El tema es que siendo
la msica algo internacional, puede darse el caso de gente que use el slang
de manera inadecuada y que el resto del mundo, fuera de su realidad no
seamos capaces de observar ese mal uso del lenguaje.
