You report what people said by using Said (that) + clause.

You often change the sense of the verb in


the direct statement one tense back in the reported statement. Time references also change.
Direct statement

Reported Speech

I like her, he said.

He said he liked her

Im seeing her this evening, he said.

He said he was seeing her that evening

Ive never felt like this before, he said.

He said he had never felt like that before

I enjoyed meeting you tonight, he said.

He said he had enjoyed meeting him that night.

Ill call you tomorrow, she said.

She said she would call him the next day.

However, in spoken language, its common not to change tenses in the reported statement,
especially if the statement is still true at the time of reporting.
Ill always love you, she said.
