cannot enter, but it is the onl# right "a# to enter. This
character ma# have meaning to close or to shutC to connect or
cut<oE.
This is a gate for the #ang in the lumbar area. +t the level of
this point, "e have the root of the backbone, the sacrum. 9e
are at the ver# beginning of the articulated bones making the
backbone. There is a passage of the #ang, a kind of regulation
of all the #ang in this area. It is a passage also, in that it gives
the abilit# to move to the next point, "hich is the ing en. +ll
the #ang is coming back to the origin, creating a kind of rooting
of the right use of the #ang in the bod# and the function of the
Du ai.
This point gives strengths to the legs. &There is another point
'1 ** that has almost this exact name <<<Qi Iang 'uan. This
point also gives strength to the lo"er part of the bod#.( This
point has an eEect locall#, but also supports the action of the
#ang throughout the bod#. There is special activit# in this point
to sustain the #ang of the 2I, as "e are the same level of the
3hu point for 2I. Du ai is able to support the regulation of the
#ang of the corresponding 3hu points, but "ith a diEerent
implication than the actual 3hu point. 0or example, for the 2I at
this level, this point maintains the normal level of temperature

lo"er cinnabar ?eld found in spiritual alchem#. >ere, the
original and authentic #in and #ang, as endo"ed b# heaven,
reside. ing men is the crucible that contains the infusion of
oneFs authentic &Bhen( "ater and ?re. The interaction of this
LauthenticN "ater and ?re Lconforms to the real nature, the
deep nature of an individual.N 3imultaneous to this interaction is
the infusion of the inherited constitution &anterior heaven( "ith
the ac@uired constitution &posterior heaven(.
The composite term shen<.ing indicates the infusion of the
activating inOuence of shen "ith the potential for manifestation
&.ing(. It is the directionalit# of this interaction as focused b# the

movement of suspension, and through the pivot more of an idea
of horiBontal movement and distribution. This is at same level
as T> 3hu point. 3o this area is about distribution of @i and
essences do"n"ard and up"ard &as the Triple >eater does( and
throughout. There is a lot of connection here "ith the activities
of the Triple >eater and "ith this function of distributing "ell
up"ard and do"n"ard, and ever#"here.
This point is on the back at the level of the base of the stomach,
at the middle heater. 3o there is also this communication
bet"een the lo"er and the middle heater, bet"een anterior
heaven and posterior heaven that relates to the function of this
point. The function is to make sure that all that "e build as
essences and @i, as #ang inside the bod#, "ill be correctl#
expressed &related to the proximit# to ing en(. This is also
the function of the Triple >eater4 the abilit# to distinguish the
diEerent kinds of @i in the diEerent heaters and their functions,
but al"a#s through the basis of original @i. It takes the original
@i and circulates it throughout the bod# and to the four limbs.
This point regulates the functioning of the 3tomach and
Intestines and ensures the good expression of the strength of
the Iang b# relating this regulation to the origin.

something in the likeness of the universe, so there is
some meaning in a location that is in the middle of the
middle. Roughl# at the same level is the center of the
3tomach at C$ 1%. This point gives more #ang to the
3pleen or to this function that is the center.

Dhong is a good evocation of the function of the '1 to
keep the essences in the center and to help the center
"ith its essences. 3hu ?ts ver# "ell "ith '1 because the
meridian acts as a pivot bet"een the 1ladder and
3tomach meridians. '1 represents the more super?cial
aspect of the #ang relating to the 12, and the deepest
action of the #ang through its relationship "ith the 3T. '1
is also a kind of pivot bet"een "hat is underground, the
9ater, the 5I, the #in, the origin, and "hat is the
manifestation of the 0ire, the >eart. It is also a pivot
bet"een anterior and posterior heaven, bet"een the 5I
and 3T. This abilit# to be bet"een, to be both an ordinar#
0u and an extraordinar# 0u, describes the '1. Dai o is
also a pivot bet"een the up"ard movement and the
do"n"ard movement.
This point acts to help '1, to help the e#es and to help
the 36. It aEects the good functioning of the 36 and helps
the #ang of the 36 to get rid of excess of dampness. It
