The highest sadhaka who recites a mantra whilst holding the rosary of human skullbone holds in his hand
the eight siddhis, and is like the imperishable Shambhu. As the Ganges is situated at the top of one's head,

The male spouse of Mahakali is the outwardly frightening Mahakala (Great Time), whose meditation
image (dhyana), mantra, yantra and meditation image is given in the Shaktisamgama Tantra.
According to this work, the mantra of Mahakala is Hum Hum Mahakala praside praside Hrim Hrim
vaha. The seer of the mantra is !alika, it is pronounced in the "irat meter, the #i$a of the mantra is
Hum, the shakti is Hrim and the linchpin is vaha.
Mahakala has four arms and three eyes, and is of the #rilliance of %&,&&&,&&& #lack fires of
dissolution, dwells in the midst of eight cremation grounds, is adorned with eight skulls, seated on five
corpses, holding a trident, a damaru, a sword and a kharpa in his hands.

loudly shrieking vultures and $ackals, adorned with a heap of #raided hair, in a deserted place.
!alika is of the form of the void, ornamented with skulls, with a sweet and charming face, in the midst
of that five(fold love(yantra. Her yoni is the wheel of time (kalachakra), the tantra states.

+%shetrapala is lord or protector of the place. According to theTantrara$a Tantra, Shi#a bestowed a
boon on him which made him uncon,uerable in the three worlds. The only way the gods could subdue

Hymn to Mahakala Shani Mrityunjaya
There is a remarka#le hymn attri#uted to the 2artandabhaira#a Tantra which identifies Mahakala
with hani, or the planet aturn, as well as with Mrityun$aya , or hiva as con5ueror of death.
According to various sources, in the past there were five schools of tantra6 the hakta, which
worshipped /evi1 the haiva, which worshipped hiva1 the Ganapatya, which worshipped the
elephant(god Ganesh1 the "aishnava, which worshipped "ishnu in his various forms1 and the aura.
'hile the aura were nominally worshippers of the un , in practice, they worshipped the son of the

-ippalada is the seer (rishi) of this mantra(song of hri Mahakala hani Mrityun$aya. Anustu#h is the
metre. Mahakala hani is the god. ham is the seed, ayasi is the hakti, kalapurusa is the kilaka. 'hen
reciting it, its result is freedom from untimely death.
/o rishi nyasa, hand nyasa and #ody nyasa. -lace Maha :gra on the head, ;aivasvata on the mouth,
hani on the mouth, and Mahagraha on the arms. -lace Mahakala in the heart, !risnatanu in the
genitals, Tuducara on the knees, and hanaiscara on the feet.
After doing nyasa according to rule, the #ody #ecomes like hani, the lord of time. +ow 3 will tell you
of the meditation nyasa for the #ody, which a person should do after meditating.
