Dear Team,

Your immediate task is to get your topic for your plant design, here is a guide on how we can make our work faster and
better:
1. Research industry recommendation from:
a. Board of Investments (BOI)
b. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
c. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
Rationale: Recommendations from these companies mean that there is already a considerable demand in
our country.
2. What do you need to research after knowing these recommendations? Know these data:
a. Supply
b. Demand
c. Import
d. Export
e. Price of intended product per Kilogram or per ton
f. Population of the Philippines from (2000 to 2013)
Rationale: We have to make sure that there really is a healthy demand of product in the market and who are
supplying currently these raw materials. If suppliers are mostly outside the country, then there is a great
opportunity for sales. Local production means less cost; less cost means lower price; lower price is the key to
having huge market share.
We can request this information from the same government agency, you can send them a letter asking for
contact details of the rightful person to approach/ask and informing them that you are interested in doing a
feasibility study for the project. You can also consider giving them a copy of your final research as soon as it
is finished so that they will agree to give you the accurate data.
You can research from other government agencies: NSO, BOC, etc.
3. If you already know the data and you have to finish these initial analysis:
a. Linear regression of demand data with population. (2000 2035)
b. Analysis of supply data (where is it coming from, can you compete with current suppliers, how many
players are existing in the market)
c. Research on who are your customers? Who will buy/purchase the product from you? Who is your target
market?
Rationale: We need to see what the demands are in the future for 10 to 15 years. We need to know if
market is already saturated. We need to know if there is a strong market for the product.
4. After good reviews on these data, you can now start with the real research. You have to research:
a. Data on volume of product each customer capable of purchasing. (Actual demand of each of your
customer)
b. Data on volume of each supplier selling to your customers. (Actual supply of your competitor be it local
or imported)
Rationale: We need to compare data coming from government and data coming from private institution.
Normally government data are not accurate (supposedly lower as compared to actual) due to some
unavoidable factors as graft and corruptions, under the table transactions, palusot sa customs, etc.
Data from private institutions will be our reference since this yields a higher demand.
5. After knowing these data, you now have to research on the following (these can be research ahead of time as
well):
a. Raw materials for your product (resources)
b. Usual process used in the industry. (Do plant visit if necessary)
c. Other processes that can be considered.
d. Wastewater treatment facility.
e. Standard Keeping Unit. (Packaging in industry - SKU)
6. We can also do our company profiling (these can be done ahead of time as well):
a. Your company vision
b. Your company mission
c. Your company corporate values
d. Your company LOGO (and what it means)
e. Your company organizational chart
f. Your product brand names (with MSDS)
7. We can now do our SWOT analysis:
a. S Strengths (Internal Considerations as a company)
b. W Weaknesses (Internal Considerations as a company)
c. O Opportunities (External Considerations on the environment)
d. T Threats (External Considerations on the environment)
e. Analysis of SWOT
i. Linking each S with each O
ii. Linking each S with each T
iii. Linking each W with each O
iv. Linking each W with each T
8. We can now determine our market share:
a. Based on the SWOT analysis
b. Based on demand and the actual capacity
c. Based on resources available
9. Site location should also be considered through the following:
a. Based on where you will get your raw materials
b. Based on where your customers will be
c. Based on delivery requirements for shipped materials (airport, seaport, land terminals)
d. Based on price of labor and variable utilities (electricity, water, fuel)
e. Based on taxation or dumping of wastes (PEZA, Industrial parks)
10. Research tools that you will be able to use (you can do this ahead of time):
a. Market research analysis on Business to Business (B2B) approach
b. SWOT analysis
