Group Discussion Topic: Global Warming
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans
since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. The scientific consensus is that global
warming is occurring and is mostly the result of human activity.
This finding is recognized by the national science
academies of all the major industrialized countries
and is not rejected by any scientific body of national
or international standing.

According to an Economic Times report, noted
environmentalist R K Pachauri said the Himalayan
glaciers are melting at a "very rapid pace" on
Tuesday, but did not refer to his earlier assertion that
the glaciers could disappear by 2035, for which he
had come under sharp attack from the government
and others.

"Though the issue is part of one of the eight mission of National Action plan for climate change
announced in 2008, nothing concrete has been done so far to address the problem," Pachauri said.

May I suggest to any of you who still believe in the worst crisis ever, that being climate change, to act like you
believe it is real. Shouldn't you be screaming as scientists are silent when Obama fails to mention the crisis in his
state of the union speech? Shouldn't you AND the scientists be screaming after all American IPCC research funding
was pulled? Shouldnt you as a climate crisis believer be the least bit concerned you can no longer expect voters to
vote yes to taxing the air to make the weather colder? The new denier is someone who doesnt know that the majority vote now is
former believer. Not planet haters, just responsible former believers who want responsible stewardship of the planet, not
threatening our children with climate death threats. We are above is fear mongering. Leave the fear mongering and lying to the
neocons.

You can condemn your own kids to a CO2 death but how spineless is that compared to acting like it's a real danger to all of us and
march in the streets with your SAVE THE PLANET sign like a real planet lover.

I agree with Akanksha. It is only a rumor although this is a fact that Global warming has badly affected the
atmosphere of the earth and if not controlled will cause serious disasters.

The rumors about worst crisis cannot be true...however we need to realize that the nature is calling and should act
responsibly towards repairing it...each one should take his/her responsibility

If there is anything remotely close to a "scientific consensus" on catastrophic warming it would be possible to name 2
scientists who are publicly in support of the catastrophic warming claim and aren't being paod by the state.
If the authors here truly believes the claim being made they will ve eager to name two such.
However experience shows that thousands of alarmists, from Hansen down to the meanest alarmist journalist have
been unable to do so.
The only possible fact based conculsion is that the whole thing is a deliberate government funded fraud to get us to allow them to
impose greater taxes, more refulation and in total. fascist control over us in the name of ecofascism.
Or perhaps the authors will provide an answer?

Dr.Pachauri once again wishes to influence the masses and policy makers especially of India but shied away from
the crucial meeting when discussion on himalayan glaciers were held,for the better reasons known to him.His coined
term "voodoo science" seems to be practised in present context by giving a sweeping statement.If any scientific data
points to his views let it be put across table for a technical scrutiny since science doesnot believe in hearsay report
or unscrutinised report. Dr Pachauri should bring out data to support his views.It may be known that WWF/BIT in their report on
"Witnessing Change:Glaciers in the Indian Himalayas" published 2009 has shown declining trend of Gangotri glacier for the years
2006-2009(2006-2007as17.85m,2007-2008 as13.06m,2008-2009 as 10.57) while their data for 1976-1990 as 21.75 and 1990-1999
as 21.36m.
