Process of fertilization in flower plants. / Double fertilization.

1. Pollen grains released from anther to stigma by insect or wind.

2. Land on stigma, epidermal cell will secrete sucrose solution
3. It stimulates the pollen grain to germinate and form pollen tube.
4. Grow down the style to the ovule.
5. Secretes enzyme to digest surrounding tissues as it grows downwards.
6. The generative nucleus (follow behind) divided by mitosis to form two ma
le gamete nuclei
7. It moves down to pollen tube lead by the tube nucleus.
8. Reaches ovary, penetrates the ovule through the microphyll
9. The tube nucleus degenerated, leaving clear passage to enter the embryo
sac for the male nuclei.
10. One gamete fuses with the egg cell to form diploid zygote.
11. The other fuses with polar nuclei to form triploid nucleus which divide
by mitosis to form endosperm tissue.
12. It is called double fertilization.
