The name of this medicine is Co-amoxiclav Tablets These tablets are available in t!o strengths o!amo"iclav #ablets $%&mg are pale yellow, biconve" tablets embossed $%& on one side. #he tablets contain two active ingredients, '&(mg of amo"icillin )as trihydrate* and +'&mg clavulanic acid )as potassium clavulanate*. )#hese ingredients together are known as o!amo"iclav*.
o!amo"iclav #ablets ,'&mg are pale yellow, oblong, biconve" tablets embossed ,'& on one side. #he tablets contain &((mg of amo"icillin )as trihydrate* and +'&mg clavulanic acid )as potassium clavulanate*. -oth strengths of tablets also contain microcrystalline cellulose, quinoline yellow ).+(/*, titanium dio"ide ).+%+*, crospovidone, Povidone K'&, colloidal silicon dio"ide, stearic acid, polyethylene glycol ,(((, methylhydro"ypropylcellulose, saccharin sodium, vanilla flavour and magnesium stearate. o!amo"iclav #ablets $%&mg and o!amo"iclav #ablets ,'&mg are available as packs of '+ tablets.
"o! does this medicine !or#$ 0mo"icillin is an antibiotic. 0ntibiotics are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. When amo"icillin is combined with clavulanic acid it is effective against a wider range of bacteria than when used alone.
*h( am I ta#ing Co-amoxiclav Tablets$ #hey are used to treat respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, tonsillitis and middle ear infections9 infections of the kidneys, abdomen and lower urinary tract including cystitis9 and skin and tissue infections.
'a#e s%re that it is safe for (o% to ta#e these tablets 5ometimes it may not be suitable. :ou should check with your doctor if; you are sensitive or allergic to o!amo"iclav #ablets or any of the ingredients, or to penicillin or other antibiotics you have ever developed serious liver problems when taking an antibiotic, you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breast!feeding, you have liver or kidney problems, you have glandular fever, you are on a low potassium diet. 5ome drugs will inteefere with the action of o!amo"iclav. #ell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines other antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, erythromycin, sulfonamides, or tetracyclines, warfarin or other drugs to prevent blood clotting. #he effect of drugs to thin the blood such as warfarin may be increased by o!amo"iclav. If this happens there could be a risk of e"cessive bleeding. 0llopurinol or probenecid for gout and related conditions.

:ou should always let your doctor know what other medicines you are taking, including any that have been prescribed by your doctor or you have bought.
Ta#ing (o%r medicine #ake at regular intervals. omplete the prescribed course unless otherwise directed. :ou should always take these tablets as prescribed by your doctor. #he instructions are usually on the pharmacists label. If youre not sure about anything please ask your doctor or pharmacist.

#he dose for people with severe liver or kidney problems may be less than these doses. #he doctor will have decided what dose you need.
#hese tablets are not suitable for children under +' or weighing less than /(kg. <o not take more tablets than the doctor told you to take. #ake the tablets for as long as the doctor told you to. <o not stop taking them because you feel better. If you are still unwell after finishing the course of tablets go and see your doctor. 5wallow the tablets with a drink at the beginning of a meal. <o not break or chew the tablets.
If (o% forget to ta#e a tablet take one as soon as you remember, then carry on with the ne"t dose. #ry to wait about / hours before taking the ne"t dose, and do not take two doses within about one hour or so. =ever double!up on the dose to make up for the one you have missed.
If you take too many tablets tell your doctor or the nearest hospital casualty department straight away. 1et people know what you have taken.
Are there an( side-effects$ 7ost people do not have any problems when they take these tablets, but nearly all medicines can cause side!effects in some people. o!amo"iclav #ablets can sometimes cause stomach problems such as nausea )feeling sick*, vomiting, indigestion or diarrhoea. #hese symptoms are usually mild and can be reduced by taking the tablets at the beginning of a meal. >ery rarely, some people e"perience hyperactivity, di66iness, headache and convulsions. #hese symptoms are reversible. #here have been rare reports of tooth discolouration. #his can usually be removed by brushing. 5ome people may get thrush )a yeast infection of the vagina or mouth* when they take these tablets. :ou can get treatments for thrush from your pharmacist or doctor. If you notice anything else which you dont understand ask your doctor or pharmacists advice.
5ome people can be allergic to antibiotics and can develop a rash. #his can range in severity from a mid itchy rash to a rarer more serious condition which may cause ulceration of the mouth, lips and skin. Inflammation of the kidney can also occur rarely. In very rare cases, allergic reactions can include difficulty in breathing, fainting or swelling of the face and throat. 5top taking the tablets and tell your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms.
5ee your doctor immediately if you develop any of the following either while you are taking o!amo"iclav #ablets or in the weeks after finishing the treatment. 5evere or prolonged diarrhoea with bleeding <arker urine or paler faeces :our skin or eyes becoming yellow 8ever, bruising or bleeding.
o!amo"iclav #ablets can sometimes affect blood cell counts. 7ake sure that your doctor knows that you are taking these tablets if you are having blood tests.
