Indonesia as a country that is highly vulnerable to natural disasters not only needs
the government assistance in overcoming natural disasters either before the
disaster or after the disaster but also needs the help of others such as social
workers, NGO and other states said. One of The well-known NGO in Indonesia
is Dompet Dhuafa.
Dompet Dhuafa ( DD ) is one of the largest non-goverment organization ( NGO )
which established in 1993. There are a lot of programs that have been successfully
implemented by this NGO .
One of its programs is the establishment of social development such as disaster
management center or DMC. The main task of this program is to manage disaster
happens both in Indonesia and overseas, and by disaster it means events caused by
nature just as: earthquake, tsunami, volcano eruption, flood, drought, hurricane,
landslide and fire damage. Three stages in the disaster management are: the-pre
disaster, the disaster and the aftermath.
The pre-disaster stage is usually known as the mitigation phase. In this phase
DMC-DD takes the strategic role in doing a community-based disaster risk
reduction campaign, through several methods such as seminar, public discussion,
mailing, training, etc. The other is the media-based method, either it is off and
online through websites, movies, libraries, brochures and leaflets. Kampong
Tanggap Bencana, is a community-based role play method built to enhance
peoples awareness of potential disaster and also to get their participation in the
activities.
Next stage is the aftermath that consists of two big parts. First is the recovery.
Recovery program aims to heal the disaster victims out of their traumatic
situations, therefore they can do their daily activities just like the way they used to
be. This program includes trauma healing, emergency school, service for the
elderlies, expectant mothers and people with disabilities. It initiates the
involvement of communities to be volunteered and active in the evacuation posts.
Second is the reconstruction. It builds temporary houses until victims can live
permanently in their new houses.
So , in this paper ,we are as society and also as beneficiaries of Dompet Dhuafa
aid will explain how the program later in the future will be a reliable program
.because Indonesia is a country that is highly vulnerable to natural disasters . For
example Earthquake and tsunami in West Sumatra at 2009 , the eruption of
volcanoes in Northern Sumatra , and much more . Hopefully , this program will
continue to evolve to cope with the disaster , especially for poor countries in the
world .
