Newly deployed base station
Deploy one or more NEs that can be managed and maintained by the U2000.
The U2000 can manage and maintain the following NEs: GBTS: NE providing GSM
services, BTS3900: co-MPT base station
In a single-mode base station or a co-MPT base station, there is only one NE and
therefore you are required to perform only one commissioning task. In a separate-
MPT multimode base station, there may be two or more NEs and therefore you
must perform the commissioning task for each NE.
Mode newly added to a separate-MPT multimode base station
Add NEs of one or more modes to a deployed separate-MPT multimode base
station.
Mode newly added to a co-MPT base station
Add services of another mode to a deployed co-MPT base station.

U2000-based commissioning
After a base station is powered on, the remote engineers use the automatic
deployment function of the U2000 to commission the base station.
USB+U2000-based commissioning
After a base station is powered on, the local engineers use a USB flash drive to
upgrade the software and update the configurations, and the base station sets up
the OM channel with the U2000 based on the updated configuration data.

Commissioning the base stations on the U2000
You can perform the remote commissioning on multiple base stations on the U2000 in
the central equipment room. The commissioning procedures, such as software and
configuration upgrade, alarm monitoring, and service verification, can be performed on
the U2000.

N-7
Commissioning the base stations by using USB and U2000
field engineers upgrade the base station software and load the data configuration file
using a USB flash drive. After the transport network is working correctly, remote engineers
(who work in the OMC) perform other commissioning tasks on the U2000 and work with
local engineers to perform necessary checks and verification tasks.
MBTS GSM V100R009 Commissioning
When the transmission link is unavailable, Local engineers upgrade the software and load
the data configuration file using a USB flash drive.
Engineers can use a USB flash drive to upgrade only the software of a newly deployed
base station.
NOTE:
In USB+U2000-based commissioning mode, if the data configuration file is stored
on the USB flash drive, the base station and the U2000 are automatically bound;
otherwise, they have to be bound manually.
When you select a commissioning mode, be sure to consider the base station
configuration, transport network status, and downtime requirement.

When field engineers select a commissioning mode with customers, be sure to consider
the base station configuration, transport network status, downtime requirement, and the
commissioning mode selection policies, communicate differences among the three modes
and advantages, and disadvantages of each mode with the customers.
NOTE:A USB flash drive must contain software, data configuration files, and
commissioning licenses for a base station.

Remote engineers can use the following methods to check whether the transport network
meets the configuration requirements of the Automatic OMCH Establishment feature.
Method 1: Contact the department in charge of the transport network to check
whether the transport network meets the configuration requirements of the
Automatic OMCH Establishment feature.
Method 2: If nodes in the transport network allow ping packets to pass, ping the
port corresponding to each node to check whether this port can be pinged. If all
the ports can be pinged, the transport network meets the configuration
requirements of the Automatic OMCH Establishment feature. If a port cannot be
pinged, the transport network does not meet the requirements.
Method 3: If nodes in the transport network do not allow the ping packets to pass,
check whether the network equipment at each node is configured as required.

Integrity protection:
The digital signs in packages of versions, BootROM, and patches are verified for integrity
verification. Do not use a USB making and protection tool to apply integrity protection to

The status of the RUN indicator in the main control board of R15 can indicate the upgrade
status.
When the USB is inserted, if the RUN indicator blinks quickly, the GBTS is being
upgraded.
When the USB is inserted, if the RUN indicator is always on, the GBTS upgrade
fails.
After the USB is removed, the RUN indicator blinks slowly.
When the USB is inserted, if the RUN indicator blinks slowly, the BTS upgrading succeeds.
(The "being upgraded" process cannot be skipped.)
In the following scenarios, the RUN indicator is on, indicating that the USB is incorrectly
inserted or the data in the USB is unauthorized.
The expected directories or file formats are not correct.
The base station finds out that the USB flash drive is insterted incorrectly.
