This 3-credit course covers compressible aerodynamics and aircraft performance. Topics include laminar and turbulent flows, compressible flow, normal and oblique shock waves, compressible flow through nozzles and diffusers, subsonic and supersonic airfoil analysis, aircraft performance calculations, and propeller theory. The course is designed to prepare aerospace engineering students to analyze high-speed aerodynamic problems and preliminarily design high-performance aircraft. Students will learn to calculate the effects of compressibility, analyze supersonic flowfields, evaluate compressible subsonic and supersonic airfoil performance, and estimate aircraft takeoff, landing, climb, range, and endurance.
