Application Comparison
Good day everyone!
As promised, I made a simple comparison between the two licensing authorities in Dubai. I hope
this will help everyone in prioritizing and choosing which license to take.

REMINDER: Those who will apply should do their applications under their name. If an
agency is utilized, make sure that you have your own DHA (Sheryan) account and you can
access it anywhere. This will help you track your transactions, updates and the result of your
application/examination.
1. I am a fresh/newly graduate RN, am I eligible?
- Fresh/newly graduate licensed RN is different from newly graduate nurses. Without the
license, you are not eligible to take the examination.
- The fresh/new graduate licensed RN category applies to UAE nationals only.
2. I have several licenses (US, Canadian, PH, Saudi and etc.), am I eligible?
- Yes. You are eligible to take the examinations regardless of how many licenses/registrations
you have as long as you have practiced nursing in the country where you received your license.
- If you are a western graduate with western registration/license and have worked in a western
healthcare facility (US or Canadian), you are exempted to take the examination but you have to
register with DHA. (The law of Reciprocity applies).
- If you only have the license/registration (US or Canadian) but did not study and worked in the
US, Canada or in any western countries, you are not exempted and you are still obligated to take
the examination.
3. What documents do I need to have before applying for the license?
- First of all, I suggest everyone to read my previous blog regarding the DHA application. It will
sort things out easily and hasten your application. You should complete all the required
documents before uploading in your DHA (Sheryan) account. You should provide a copy of
your Good Standing Certificate from your previous/latest work. The Good Standing
Certificate should come from the Ministry, Licensing Body or from your employer. It is
different from the Employment Certificate.
- ALL DOCUMENTS TO BE UPLOADED SHOULD BE
CURRENT/RENEWED/UPDATED TO AVOID BEING DELAYED OR REJECTION.
THE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS ARE THE RN LICENSE/S OR
REGISTRATION/S AND YOUR GOOD STANDING CERTIFICATE.
- Certificate of Graduation is your Diploma.
- It is not required to upload your high school credentials.
4. Do I need to have my documents attested when uploading them in my DHA (Sheryan)
account?
- No. It is not required if the documents are in Arabic or English languages. They will ask for
the translation and attestation if the documents are not in both accepted languages.
- Attested documents are used when applying for the job not for the license application.
5. What is the accepted working experience and how long should be the employment gap?
- The required or ideal nursing work experience without any gap should be 2 years
continuously. If you worked for 1 year and stopped, the employment gap should not be more
than 6 months because the possibility of being rejected is high.
a. 2 years RN experience no employment gap = will be approved (if all the required
documents have been submitted)
b. 2 or more than years RN experience gap of less than 6 months other work = DHA will
decide about your application.
c. 1 year RN experience gap of less than 6 months 1 year RN experience again = will be
approved
d. 1 year RN experience gap of more than 6 months 1 year exp = will be rejected
e. Less than 2 years RN experience = DHA will decide about your application. (They will
probably check and consider the date when you acquire your RN license/registration).
- Volunteer experience and CMEs are not considered as an experience.
- If you have multiple employers during your two years work experience, make sure that you
outline/upload all the needed certificates in chronological order.
- For those who worked other jobs with/or without nursing experience, DHA will decide
whether they will approve or reject your application.
6. How will I pay for the examination application and the Prometrics?
- For the application, only UAE-based credit cards or e-cards are accepted and should be utilized.
7. What are the accepted nursing/employment certificates?
- STAFF NURSES are those who specifically worked in the Med-Surg, OR, Emergency, OB-
Gyn and other specialized nursing field.
- DENTAL NURSES are those who specifically worked in the dentistry field.
- PRACTICE/ASSISTANT NURSES are those who have the two years diploma (i.e.
Midwifery).
8. After paying 210AED, what will be the next step?
- After the initial payment, DHA will first make sure that the required documents are complete
and correct. They will send it to Dataflow to have it checked. This may take a few weeks
depending on the verification done my Dataflow. Once you pass, you will be required to pay
700+AED for the Prometric examination. Eligibility number will be given within a week.
The Eligibility number will be activated after 5 working days and will be valid for 3 months.
9. How many items are there in the examinations and how long it will be? What is the
format of the examination?
The number of questions to be answered is 75 and it will for 2 hours. The examination is
computer-based and the results will be given after a few days.
10. If I pass, what are the next steps I should do?
Once you passed the examination, you will receive your eligibility letter (this is a letter
confirming your passing but will not serve as a license to practice nursing in the emirates).
The validity of the eligibility letter is one year only. If you are not successful looking for an
employer within one year, you will have to do the same process again and re-take the
examination.
To have your DHA license, you need to find an employer and present your eligibility
letter. Once hired, they will process your DHA license by uploading the Malpractice Insurance
and other documents.

Career Growth. Change of Path. Change
of License.

I decided to venture out of the norm and will take a licensing process under DHCC. I chose to
move forward and gain more rather than get stuck with the same old process/routine. I have read
that DHCC conduct trainings for its professionals and with the proximity of Mohammed Bin
Rashid Academic Medical Center, this will enable the professionals to pursue and/or continue to
grow in their respective professions.
Before taking the big step, I weigh the possible future consequences of my shift to DHCC. One
of which is that DHA/HAAD/MOH signed an MOA/MOU that all healthcare professionals
having either of the license will be recognized by the emirates under their respective
jurisdiction. This will broaden the scope and probability of hiring for healthcare
professionals. Shifting to DHCC, I will lose my registration with DHA and my chance to work
along the emirates will be narrowed (limited clinics, centers and hospitals).
Looking on the bright side, I will be enabled to visit the Academic Medical Center and probably
continue to learn more, converse with other professionals of different fields and enhance my
nursing skills. Learning by experience is one part, but learning the fundamentals will really
mold you to a better professional.
I am looking forward for a new career, a new environment that will enable me to grow and a
family that will guide me to become the best in my field.
Ciao! Just felt writing something up. I will update you guys once I get the results.

Renewed BLS License!

Today, we did the renewal for our AHA BLS License and passed with flying colors. Haha!
Anyway, I do hope that the management will arrange for the ACLS also. I doubt.
I completed one of my requirements. One more to go.
