FEDERAL RESPONDENTS NOTICE AND STATUS REPORT

Federal Respondents are providing the Court and parties the following status report on
the Bureau of Land Managements (BLMs) gather of wild horses that was at issue in the
above-captioned matter. As described in the attached Declaration of Gavin Lovell (Lovell
Decl.), the 2014 gather removed more wild horses from Checkerboard lands than the estimates
anticipated from the April census. Lovell Decl. 3-7. The BLM attributes the increased
number of horses present on the Checkerboard to delays in initiating the gather and weather. Id.
Consistent with the Decision Record and the Consent Decree in RSGA v. Salazar, 11-cv-0026-
NDF (D. Wy.), BLMs contractor removed approximately 1263 wild horses from Checkerboard
lands within the three Herd Management Areas (HMAs). Lovell Decl. 5. Approximately
649 wild horses were left on the adjacent solid-block public lands within these three HMAs.
