Introduction
I. Lady Louise Windsor, years old is the dau!hter of prince "dward and
!randdau!hter of #ueen "li$abeth II and %rince %hilip.
II. She was born prematurely and because of that she !ot strabismus or s&uint eye.
'. When she ( month, she had the first sur!ery, she had an unsuccessful )*+
minute operation under !eneral aesthetic to try to correct the problem.
,. -er parents were worried about sub.ectin! her to more sur!ery with the chance
that it mi!ht not be successful.
III. I am interested to /now about it since I also ha0e s&uint eyes and I did additional
research for this speech.
I1. Today I would li/e to inform you about the nature, causes and ways to cure the
strabismus.
Body
I. Strabismus is a disorder in which the two eyes do not line up in the same direction,
and therefore do not loo/ at the same ob.ect at the same time.
'. There are two types of strabismus which are hori$ontal and 0ertical
strabismus..
. hori$ontal strabismus which are "sotropia and "2otropia.
3. "sotropia is inward turnin! of the eyes or /nown as crossed eyes
while "2otropia is the term used to describe outward turnin! of the
eyes or /nown as wall+eyes.
). 1ertical strabismus which are -ypertropia and -ypotropia.
4. -ypertropia is an abnormal eye hi!her than the normal eye while
-ypotropia is when abnormal eye is lower than the normal eye.
5Transtion : 6ow that you /now somethin! about what strabismus is, let7s loo/ to the causes
of strabismus8
II. The causes of strabismus are problems with the eye muscles, family history,
refracti0e error that can occur in child and adult.
'. %roblems with the eye muscles
. The eyes muscles not wor/ to!ether and as a result, two different
ima!e sent to the brain from each eye.
3. The brain will learn to i!nore the wea/er eye and ma/e the eye ne0er
see well.
,. 9amily history
. indi0iduals with parents or siblin!s who ha0e strabismus are more
li/ely to de0elop it.
C. :efracti0e error
. people who ha0e a si!nificant amount of uncorrected farsi!htedness
may de0elop strabismus because of the additional amount of eye
focusin! re&uired to /eep the ob.ects clear.
5Transition : There is cure for e0ery disease. 6ow I will !i0e the information about the ways
to cure or treat the strabismus8.
III. The strabismus can be treated with wearin! eye!lasses, 0ision therapy and eye
muscle sur!ery.
'. Wearin! eye!lasses
. It can be used to correct the 0ision problems such as farsi!htedness
and esotropia that may be causin! the s&uint.
3. Once the farsi!htedness is corrected, the eyes re&uire less focusin!
effort and may remain strai!ht.
,. 1ision therapy
. It is a structured pro!ram of 0isual acti0ities prescribed to impro0e eye
coordination and eye focusin! abilities.
3. 1ision therapy trains the eyes and brain to wor/ to!ether more
effecti0ely.
C. "ye muscle sur!ery is the most popular option to treat strabismus.
. It can chan!e the len!th or position of the muscles around the eye in
an attempt to better ali!n the eyes.
3. "ye muscle sur!ery may be able to physically ali!n the eyes so they
appear strai!ht.
Conclusion
I. :emember the !irl which I mentioned at the be!innin! of the speech.
II. -er doctors are confident that the sur!ery has wor/ed this time.
III. 's a result Lady Louise Windsor ha0e done the sur!ery to correct her eye si!ht and it
is succesful.
I1. There is a way to cure the strabismus and it depends on types of strabismus.
1. It is better to cure it durin! childhood time or the person will ha0e serious 0ision
problems in later life or the s&uint cannot be treat if left untreated.
