LETTTSRS PROM BATAHOo

August 22p 1944*

If any nurse wants to know what the requirements are for this work to
relieve me here goesg Post graduate work in surgery ~ he sure to know how
to operate if necessary, I Just dismissed a fellow who oame in here with his
arm nearly cut off* He has the use of at least two fingers. Never* saw him
until four days after the fight, Wellp hack to the course - at least sis
months of public health work^^ sis months in a fine doctor's office;) I mean a
good all around practitioner. Special instruction in all the impossihle and
possible maternity emergencies, A recent experience simply leaves me cold
every time I thix^ of it. Dental emergency fillings and extractions is also
a necessary hit of knowledge. Care of T.B.s with no modern equipment. Now
if you can find me such a nurse I'll expect to wait about ten years more,
I was going to suggest that when you come you bring Just the material
for new quilts and we can buy wool and make them ourselves. Wool is so much
lighter than these cotton filled ones you had hOBB,
Gladys Schwake,

A visiting Central Goveihxnent man wants to render me aid in getting down
to Kangting by offering to tdke my load if I will pay for the riding animals.
This is my cue for which I have been waiting. This party leaves in four weeks.
He said I need not wven tako a tent. Coming back he will loan me this tent
he has. He wants to see mp ,safely to Chengtu, He is not going down himself
but will put me in the proper hands. What a Cod is ours11 Praise be to
matchless Name, Get ftmds to me as fast as possible while I am down there.
Send all you have on hand in November, Keep up the good work in prayer and
God will do His perfeot work as promised in His Word,

Pastor Lee's sermons have greatly improved in spiritual tone and lately
he has been quite bold in warning the Christians that they must clean up their
lives. We do hope and pray that when Joseph and his companions from the Bible
school reach here there will be at least the nucleus of a churehp and their
enthusiasm and spirituality will be the means of helping prepare for a real
revival here.
Yesterday I felt that cup was full and running over. All our Ja Po
Ding folk attended the preaching and commiinion service in the town. Postmaster
Jen brought a fine message from ph, 4817^24, The Holy Spirit's presence was
real. It was the most satisfying service that I have attended in the Satazig
church.
We hope we will soon h4ve word that funds have arrived so that Gladys may
take the first opportunity io go to Chengtu, What she stands up under is a
marvel to me. Many times d42*ing the apple season Xhave felt ready to drop
at the end of the day^ but /it that I can no where near keep up with her, I
surely believe that the LoM will lay it upon the hearts of the people to give
generously so that Glady will have funds for this trip and for the medical and
dental care which she needs.
Until prices go dov?n and the exchange is somewhat stabilized I can see
no hope of putting the Shaos on full time salary. It would require $50, gold
per month to do this,
