INTRODUCTION
Field study 4 (Learning Assessment Strategy) is one of the major subjects in
education in every school.
This study is to observe in the real setting of the classroom. There are seven
learning assessment which are authentic, alternative, conventional, performance,
naturalistic, process-oriented and product oriented. The fs 4 students should
observe the assessment used by the teacher.
Also in this study the fs4 students observe the learners how they interact with
their teacher, how they participate in class and the fs4 students guess what kind
of assessment the teacher used through observing the evaluation of the teacher.

It is very nice strategy of the teacher to motivate the
learners.

3.ORAL
QUESTIONING

This subject is English the teacher asked the learners
what is the answer of the question that she gave, the
teacher called somebody to participate in the front to
answer the exercise given by the teacher. After that, they
answered the exercises given in their books.

6

Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teachers? How
relevant was/were the assessment method/s used?
Based on my observation, there is only little assessment method they have used.
Because as I observed, only traditional assessment that they had used.
Based on my observation in Biology subject the assessment the used
by the teacher is authentic because the teacher let the pupils to go around the
school campus and observe or touch the different types of leaves of the plants.
They go around in the small garden located in the side of the school. The teacher
let them to discover what is in the leaves; the pupils touch the leaves & the
steam.

Do you think the expected students learning behaviours indicated in the
objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those
assessment methods?
I think yes, because when the teacher gave an evaluation, many of them got a
high score.

MY ANALYSIS

MY REFLECTIONS
During on my first observation, I was so afraid to
get inside in the classroom, because I am shy to
approach the teacher since they are already started
the class and I am late, because it is my first day to
observed. Due to that, I had to convince myself to
approach the teacher. As I approached the teacher,
I got to know that she was kind and very
professional to her craft and she undoubtedly said
that she will help with all she can. How nice of her.
On the other hand, when I had my
observation, the teacher master her lesson, she
inform first the students on what will happen on that
day, and when she discussed the lesson with her
learners the flow of presentation was lively creative
and everybody participate and cooperative to their
teacher. Therefore, I realized that as a future
educator, we must need more strategies techniques
and methods, and on how can we discipline the
learners and how can we get their attention to our
class discussion.

INITIAL NOTES

Name of the School Observed: ICEHS-HANAPLANON
School Address:Brgy. Hinaplanon, Iligan City Date of Visit: August 22, 2014
Grade/ Year Level: GRADE 9 Subject Area: MATH 2

Teachers Learning Objectives:

- To find the area of the square and rectangle
- To perform or to participate in the front, using the formula of getting area
of the square and rectangle

Desired conditions and criterion levels of the learning objectives:

- To achieved the learning objectives of the teacher at that period. The
learning objectives of the teacher must be attainable.

Other notes:

- For me, I think the teacher needs to add more activities.

100

Do you think the teachers learning objective was appropriately assessed
by you test items? Why? /Why not?
On my own perspectives, I think teachers learning objective was
appropriately assessed based on my observation because during my
observation the teacher delivers well the lesson plan by her discussion. I
can say yes! Because as I observed the teacher, when she teaching the
learners are interesting to her, and she get the attention of the learners
also when they having their quiz almost all of them got high score...

Why did you have to study the teachers learning objectives prior to
developing an assessment tools?
As a future educator or teacher, we should study the teacher
learning objectives in order for us to learn it and also to developing an
assessment tools because one of the important in making a lesson plan is
the learning objectives. We can measure how far we learned. And we can
identify which is the best to do and not to do.

MY ANALYSIS
11

MY REFLECTION
Based on my observation today, the teacher
gave assessment method. I think shes fair to her
learners as well I observed. Because when she
gives an instruction, what are they going to do, she
dictates it clearly and everybody can understand
what she said. And also the learners got high
score.
Being a future educator/teacher, as we
observe the classroom with the learners end their
teacher we should observe those strategies use by
the teacher cause there will be a time that we can
apply it into our teaching. And also we can change
those strategies that use by the teacher that not
appropriate to the learners.

MY TARGET:
At the end of this activity, you will informed on the principles of authentic
assessment and its usefulness in the classrooms.
MY WAY:
Authentic assessment is an alternatives way of assessing students learning. To
be able to use it, you must first have deep understanding of it. To help you hit
your target, fly in good shape through these destinations:

1. Read articles on new trends of classroom assessment.
2. Visit a classroom and interview the teacher on his/her experience
in using authentic assessment.
3. Write a reflective journal on activity.

MY REVIEW NOTES

AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT

A form of assessment in which students are
asked to perform real-world task that
demonstrate meaningful application of essential
knowledge and skills

(Jon Mueller)

Engaging and worthy problems or question of
importance, in which students must use
knowledge to fashion performance effectively
and creatively. The task are either replicas of or
analogous to the kinds of problems faces by
citizens and consumer or professionals in the
field

(Wiggings,1993,p299)

Performance assessment call upon the
examinee to demonstrate specifics skill and
competencies, that is, to apply the skills and
knowledge they have mastered

(Stiggings , 1987, p.34)

WHAT DOES ASSESSMENT LOOK LIKE?

An authentic assessment usually includes a task
for students to perform and a rubric by which
performance on the task will be evaluated.

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

What were your personal strategies in choosing relevant articles to read?
My personal strategies in choosing relevant articles that I want to read, first is to
read the title of the book that I am going to read. second is I will read it slowly and
understand it in order for me to come up some ideas and to get the words which is
unfamiliar to me, then I will search it in the dictionary what is the meaning on that
words, by that way I can learn more knowledge.

What are your insights and feelings about the new trends in classroom
assessment?
My insight and feelings about the new trends in classroom
assessment it is really good and effective because based on what I had read
article. I think every year theres a new curriculum. The classroom management
also improve.
I feel that if I become a teacher someday I can make my own
strategies to manage the classroom, and how to deal to the different kinds of
learners. Also I encourage myself to become a successful teacher.

What is your most meaningful learning from this activity?

14

In this activity I learned a lot, I have noticed that should have
different strategies on how to make an effective assessment tool. The most
meaningful learning that I found-out in this activity that I learned is how to
differentiate the conventional assessment to authentic learning, but you can apply
it in one setting classroom.
You can integrate two assessments in one subject matter.

REFLECTIVE

How did you feel about the teacher experience in use of authentic
assessment?

For me I happy and lucky because I learned a lot in my
observation on how the teacher used authentic assessment in the classroom.
This kinds of experience is very nice and good for us as a future teacher
someday because we will use it in the future and we can I apply such good
things that we learned in the future.

What do you think have been the gains by the teacher and his/her students
from using authentic assessment?

I using authentic assessment based on what I had done
observed the teacher & the learners enjoyed in the way that the teacher used
authentic assessment. They learned while enjoying the subject area. It is one of
the good strategies of the teacher is to motivate their learners in order to
understands the subject.
15

Which part the teachers use authentic assessment do you feel like
improving or revising?

I think all strategies that used in authentic assessment are very
suitable to the learners therefore, for no revising because if I were also the
teacher I mimic her activities.

MY INTERVIEW NOTES

Based on my interview, the teacher experiences in using authentic
assessment is very operative because the learners can acquire morefor the
reason of the challenging activities. The learners enjoy while learning or doing it.
Moreover the learners develop their skill and they can also interact to their
teacher. In this kind of assessment the teacher can determine the performance
or behaviours of the learners.

Meanwhile, I had asked the teacher on how they manage the classroom and the
learners. Cause during of my observation the learners are noisy in the
classroom, then I asked the teacher what way they would discipline and manage
the learners. She answered that disciplining learner is one of the tough job of a
teacher, and being a teacher we must have the big word which is the Patience.
Indeed they are very unbreakable to discipline because they are so young but
when I saw them uncontrollable I just have to silence my self and glare them then
eventually they will notice my silence and little by little they will just stop what
they were doing. I asked again the teacher on why they let her students to go
around the campus and make or observe the different types of leaves. The
teacher said that it is one of the part of her lesson plan is to follow the learning
objectives, and it is one way of motivating their pupils in her classroom. I think it
16

is good strategy because the learners will be exposed and by that way the
learners learned a lot of things that surround them.

These following are one of the questions I asked to teacher:

What are the strategies you used when you are teaching, using an
authentic assessment?

The teacher said, there are many strategies that to be used, some of that are:

Cooperative learning
Group activity
Problem solving
Role playing

What are those subjects that you are using an authentic assessment?

Science
Math
English
MAPEH

Name of the School Observed: ICEHS-HINAPLANON
School Address: Brgy. Hinaplanon, Iligan City Date of Visit:
Grade/ Year Level:Subject Area:
Subject matter:

What are the best features of my process-oriented performance
assessment design?
I think I will follow the design made by the teacher that I had observed
because as I observe , the learners are all participate and they doing their best
.and also the learners are very active and interested to observe.

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use process-
oriented performance assessment design?
The specific conditions are necessary a successful use process oriented
performance assessment design is to provide a microscope and allow the pupils
to see it. So that they can see what was in the leaves not only touching it but also
seeing it.

What basic points should the user of this design consider?
The point is to have an idea, on how are they observe the different types
21

of leaves using microscope.

Prepared by:_________________
Signature of FS Student over Printed Name

Do you think your originally designed process-oriented performance
assessment can appropriately assess the teachers learning objective?
Why/ Why not?
For me yes, because if the using of assessment is related to the certain
objectives, the teacher goal will achieve by the learners. If I were be a
teacher I will do what the teacher did to her pupils, because for me, the
strategies used by the teacher is appropriate to the learners and also the
learners enjoyed.

Why do teachers need to give attention to the students process oriented
tasks? Why do they need to assess them?
As a teacher you should give attention to the students process oriented
tasks. Because one of the role of the teacher is to get the attention of the
learners specially by assessing them, because if the learners can that the
teacher show her attention the learners courage more to finish their task
and work in the certain lesson.

In what conditions can the process-oriented performance assessment be
used more appropriately?
MY ANALYSIS
22

for me, as a teacher the best condition can the process-oriented
performance assessment be used more appropriately is when the teacher
give some activity, works & task to the learners because it is important in
their teaching and the teacher should evaluate the performance of the
learners it they learned or not. So as a teacher we can determine it based
on their performance.

MY REFLECTION

Based on my observation, the teacher gives
her best to teach, and I think she used more strategies.
By using performance assessment, I think as a future
educator I should also prepared my own strategies that
appropriate to the learners and also to get their attention
and based on my experience, its not easy to teach,
because as a teacher we should used more strategies
and techniques on how we assess the pupils. I think I
need to apply there cooperative learning and group
activity in my future teaching...

Describe in bullets the product-oriented activity you observed.

The teacher gives an assignment and at the same time she give project to
learners
She asks the learners to make scarf book in their English 6 subject.
That all their quizzes, activities, and exam test paper must be included
and keep it in their journal.
He teacher asks the learners to buy a drawing book and cover it properly,
and then all entries will be paste on the drawing book.
Then make a reflection on what they have learned in that subject.

25

MY PLAN

Now that you noted your observation, compose your thoughts and think
about what product-oriented assessment design, you think is more
appropriate for the classroom you have observe in bullet form, list the
procedure of your proposed assessment in the box below.

If I were be a teacher to make a product-oriented assessment I will
also allow my learners to make a journal and I want also that all activities that we
have done in that subject must be keep. After that I will ask them to make
compilation on their activities at the end of the school year. Also I want them to
make their reflection on what they have learned from that subject.

Instruction:

I will ask the students that all entries, draft and activities like quizzes and
exam must be keep because at the end of the year we will compile it.
26

I want the students to buy a drawing book for their journal
All entries must be pasted it to their journal with the creativity
I will allow the students to put their picture in the next to the front page
with their short biography
At the last page of their journal is their dream in life.
I want to pass their project after the fourth grading system.

MY PLAN

Learning Objectives:

To make their journal

General Product-oriented Performance task:

Their task is not only done in one setting in the class but that product oriented
performance that I plan is good for one year.

Target Skills:

NOTES ON MY PRODUCT-ORIENTED ASSESSMENT PLAN

Name of the School Observed: ICEHS-HINAPLANON
School Address:Brgy. Hinaplanon, Iligan City Date of Visit:
Grade/ Year Level: GRADE 7 Subject Area: English 6
Subject matter: all their topic in English Section: Jupiter

What are the best features of my product-oriented performance
assessment designed?

The best features of my product oriented performance assessment
design that how my students develop their skills in creativity. Also that particular
task, you can identify the different multiple intelligence of the learners.

What specific conditions are necessary for successful use of my product-
oriented performance assessment design?

28

Is to measure the capabilities of the learners and how far they have
learned in my subject.

What basic points should the user of this design consider?

My basic point is that the students should be responsible and discipline.

Do you think your originally designed product-oriented performance
assessment can appropriately assess the teachers learning objective?
Why/ Why not?
For me, yes! Because as I observe them its develops the skills of the
pupils and at the same time, I know that this stage of learners they wants to
make their own journal, they love to write and make everything that interesting.
And as a teacher we can also know those pupils creative. In grade 7 level they
already know how to make write their own journal with creativity.
Why do teachers need to give attention to the students product oriented
tasks? Why do they need to assess them?
The teacher needs to give attention to the students product oriented task
in to then to learn more and everything, they see their project they can motivate
their selves that any task that given by the teacher they can accomplish it. It is
also motivates to the students to build their own dreams and they will be
interesting in their studies. As a teacher we need to assess our learners so that
MY ANALYSIS
29

we can teach them to follow the correct direction given and also to understand
their task.
In what conditions can the product-oriented performance assessment be
used more appropriately?
Now a day, the students are more advance compare to the past because of the
technology. So that I think the product-oriented performance assessment be
used is appropriate to the learners.

MY REFLECTION

Based on my observation at the ICEHS-
HINAPLANON, I can make my own strategies on how
to give a product-oriented performance task to the
students, but that task is not good for one day but it
take a long period of time.
When I make this activity, feel so tired the
difficulties of being teacher, but I was not
disappointing instead I was enjoying doing it because
even how difficult it is, when you realized that there are
many learners learn because of you, it gives you more
strength and courage to be an effective teacher. I hope
all of these I can achieve and be a competency teacher
someday...
