TO MAKE UP
From lining fabric, cut same size pieces as sides and
gusset, adding 1.5cm seam allowance to all edges.
Cut same size pieces from wadding. Tack wadding
to WS of lining fabric and now treat as one layer.
Matching ends of gusset to cast off edges of sides,
sew gusset to row-end and cast on edge of sides.
Fold 8cm to inside around entire upper edge and
slip stitch in place. Fold handles along fold lines
and join row-end edges so that seam runs centrally
along handle. Cut petersham ribbon into 2 equal
lengths and thread a length through each handle,
securing ends. Sew handles securely to inside of
upper edge of bag, positioning handles 18cm apart.
Make up lining in same way as knitted sections. Slip
lining inside bag, turn under raw edge around upper
opening edge and neatly slip stitch in place. Attach
buttons at base of handles as in photograph.
