What we are today, have become part of our past.

Nevertheless, not most of these

influences have shaken our dignity as Filipinos. With mixed races and cultures,
different families and customs, Philippines has been a country full of wonder and
uniqueness. Though our land was inhabited and colonized by other nations, we still
stand together.

Spaniards, the first and one of the greatest colonizers of our country, have made a
very compelling and dramatic inhabitance in our homeland. The advantages of their
influence in our nation were mostly profound in terms of religion, specifically:
Christianity. It is good that the Spaniards introduced Christianity to us, though there
were issues in the past about it. It has made our country into a strong nation and
has brought freedom and unity to us all. The main evidence is the time when all
people, during the first EDSA revolution, did a prayer rally to stop tyranny and to
achieve freedom. Many Christians prayed for the salvation of our freedom and our
languishing nation. We can see a very significant and prominent effect of the
influence of Christianity that was brought by the Spaniards. Even if the Spaniards
left a very unforgettable inspiration to us all, they also left a drastic smear that once
doomed our land. One of their unbelievable influences was tyranny. Because of the
style of government they brought and introduced to us, it has been an inheritance
to those who are seated on the highest position. Corrupt and vile leaders are
descendants of the past.

Americans, the next who came after the Spaniards, are people who came from the
west to “HELP” the Filipinos. One great influence of Americans is the English
language. We have learned the various rules in English grammar. Because of
this we have the ability to communicate with other nations. We are fortunate
enough that the “Thomasites” came and taught us American. Education was
one of the greatest influences of the Americans. But English was a new
language that time, it was a culture shock for our fellowmen, that is why
president Manuel Quezon declared that Filipino will be the official language of
our nation. It was hard for the Filipinos to adapt a new language, in that case
these influences of the Americans have both positive and negative effects.

Japanese, the last and one of the unforgettable occupants who ever came in our
country. Though they have stained our land with war and conflict, slavery and
oppression, they have great and positive influences in our nation and our
culture.

These three well-known colonizers momentously influenced our once

unsophisticated country. It may be good or bad, but it changed and brought
progress to our society, nation on our culture.
